2019 NY Mets

Watching Stronan again tonight and I don’t get it. 4 or 5 starts into his Mets career and has looked like nothing but a journeyman pitcher.
I have been having this same discussion with my son. We’ve argued, with me telling him that he is a 4 or 5 on a good staff. Maybe a 3. Certainly not a 1 or 2. I told him people who keep talking like he is anything better than that will be disappointed.
All that being said, My son is in his mid twenties and I find that people of a certain age like the fist pumping, chest bumping show. I am more focused on results and his WHIP and ERA over his career have been meh not wow.
I keep looking for it, but 4 starts in I haven’t seen it. Now he has a hamstring tightness. I guess we will have to wait longer to see some better results.
Certainly looks hittable to me. A 5th starter at best.

Jack, agree with you. However, not only will Lowrie need a position but we cannot forget the $29M Caballero himself, Yoenis Cespedes. It is a contract year. Yes he has a bad injury but from everything I’ve heard he is going to play. He would be back already if not for his adventures in ranching.
The best thing might be for the Horseman to stay away but I have a feeling he will try to play which really complicates things.

As a former sju baseball player love your insights and knowledge. I'd say give him a larger sampling. He's not a strikeout pitcher so hard to judge on a handful of starts. Better 5th than Vargas imo

Nice series sweep last night. Funny, I watched the storm roll in on TV. Game gets delayed. 20 minutes in the storm reaches Nassau County and the power goes out. Now I am sitting in the dark. All my technology is useless a/c is dead and I am a hot sweaty mess sitting on the living room sofa. I have an English bulldog and the poor bully is panting his ass off giving me the wtf are you gonna do to fix this. Same look my wife gives me everyday. I got Howie Rose on the radio at 11:30 or so telling me how they are going to restart the game. Of course it stops and then gets finally stopped at around 12:30. Worth the wait sitting in the dark when the Mets finally got the W.

Power finally comes back on at 5 a.m. Ended up sleeping on the floor like a pretzel. It was 1978 all over again. It was bad but at least Mets made me feel good through it all. 27-10 since the All Star break.

bamafan already commented (in another thread) on the blown Met opportunities tonight so let me expand on my complaint about today’s pitching “approach”. Familia comes in the 14th, walks the lead off man, gives up a ground rule double, gets an out, and up comes Billy Hamilton, basically a designated pinch runner barely hitting .200. So does Familia go after him, aggressively pitch to an exceedingly weak hitter? No, let’s NIBBLE, throw sliders just off the plate, get behind 2-0, and have to throw 2 weak get the ball over the plate nothing balls, the second of which is a base hit. Exasperating........

Very tough loss for the Mets....1 for 27 one through five, highlighted by Alonso and Conforto failing to make contact in the 11th when the Brave pitcher hit Panik and threw two wild pitches, just begging the Mets to win. Another strong game by deGrom (and the bullpen) with zilch to show for it.

Tom Seaver is beyond a shadow of a doubt the best pitcher the Mets ever had. I also have to believe that deGrom is #2. He was ridiculous last night!

Oh those base on balls will kill you. Both Brave runs came as a result of allowing the leadoff hitter to reach base and score. And did anyone think we would score runs with deGrom pitching? BTW, he was still throwing 99 mph in his last inning.

THUD, weekend sound of Mets crashing back to earth. Outside of the 4 run inning Saturday, they scored just single runs in 3 of the other 31 innings. Two very strong performances by deGrom and Matz yield nothing. Bring on the Cubs...........

This hurt, but only 2 games out of the wildcard. Cubs are lousy on the road. LGM!

As easy as it is to be negative, the Mets are playing meaningful baseball in late August, and had won something like 27 out of 37 coming in.

These kids play with a lot of enthusiasm and energy, and it's very hard not to love the way Davis, Alonso, Conforto, Syndergaard, deGrom, McNeil, etc. play.

Let's hope they regroup and play some spirited games they win vs. Chicago. It's a long season, and for me, there have been too many seasons that ended in June. This is great. Enjoy it.

Tough weekend. Mets need to shake it off and get back to work when the Cubs come in. Braves just a better team. All is not lost yet.

So are the Indians but that didn’t matter. Agree completely though all is not lost by any means.
