2019 NY Mets
I haven’t seen anyone mention that Callaway also went too long with Lugo. Once he gave up the lead on multiple hits he needed to stop the bleeding. I get he doesn’t have great options but it was pretty clear Lugo did not have it. The mistake was highlighted when the Mets rallied. Too much to overcome.

I agree, and the lack of options makes the initial move even more curious. Mets starting pitching on paper is one of their strengths so you expose a mediocre (at best) bullpen for no apparent reason except some righties were coming up in the 7th? Why even start Matz if you were that afraid of the of the left-right matchup?

In Lugo's defense, only the first hit off him was hit hard, every other hit was little bloops in front of the of'er.
Reminded me off Mariano in game 7 in 01 at Arizona

Maybe I am way off here but part of me thinks Calloway thought it was the 8th inning.

True but maybe it’s a karma thing or something for me. I think it was the lead off walk to Donaldson and 5 hits in a row. Just think he needed to change something. Walks kill.

You should be so understanding and diplomatic where the Yankees are concerned. A walk and five hits in a row is a walk and five hits in a row.

Way off? Preposterous! The only thing more ridiculous than this idea would be the thought of a major league lineup batting out of order.

More befuddling moves by Callaway last night. Allowing Gagnon (whose name must be French for HR) to give up 4 HRs that made a once 10-2 game into a 10-8 nail biter is ridiculous. His ERA is almost 8. Callaway’s comment that Gagnon “did a good job” was almost unbelievable. Then again it came right out of the mouth of clueless Callaway.

Again I get they don’t have a lot of options but Gagnon is the last guy in a bad bullpen. Now he got away with it so some will excuse it. That was a game they could not lose. They came within one flat Diaz slider of blowing that game and it just shouldn’t have been that close.

And to think Gagnon did a good job the night before Calloway followed that comment last night with," Diaz did a great job." A what? Walks the first batter he faces with bases loaded. Talk about a pitcher who has lost confidence.

I knew we were in trouble last night when Frazier was batting fifth. And don't let us forget the bottom of the order Nido and Tejada -yikes!

The two players I cannot stand the most are Frazier and Lagares. Thankfully both contracts expire at the end of this year. I know Frazier has a few big hits but in between the occasional homers he has the weakest outs ever. That swing is just horrible. I can’t believe he made it to the majors without someone correcting a flawed swing. I don’t need to explain Lagares. Never has someone lasted so long on a team while producing nothing. I think he has pictures of Jeff Wilson somewhere.

I can’t wait to see tonight’s line up as JD Davis is available to Pinch hit only. Aaron Altherr anyone?

Agree about Frazier. One handed lunging at baseball. Hello, anyone ever hear about staying back on changeups and sliders. Certainly not Frazier.

Good start to the home stand last night. Hats off to Steven Matz who held a good Indians line up in check.

I know many have knocked BVW but the trade for JD Davis has been an absolute steal. He can flat out hit. He needs work on defense but with some work he replaces Frazier next season at 3B.

The Mets with Alonso, McNeil, Davis, Conforto, Rosario all under 30 actually have a very solid young core. I can’t believe I just said that but it’s true.

I think Nimmo has to show us more on the field. Looked good last year but he was really struggling (.200AVG) this year. Was it the injuries? Maybe just a slow start and then injured? I’ll wait to see what he does when he makes it back.
I am not counting on Nimmo or Lowrie even if they do come back this season. So much time missed. Hopefully, I am wrong and Nimmo is effective. Heck the way things have turned you never know.

Watching Stronan again tonight and I don’t get it. 4 or 5 starts into his Mets career and has looked like nothing but a journeyman pitcher.

I have been having this same discussion with my son. We’ve argued, with me telling him that he is a 4 or 5 on a good staff. Maybe a 3. Certainly not a 1 or 2. I told him people who keep talking like he is anything better than that will be disappointed.
All that being said, My son is in his mid twenties and I find that people of a certain age like the fist pumping, chest bumping show. I am more focused on results and his WHIP and ERA over his career have been meh not wow.
I keep looking for it, but 4 starts in I haven’t seen it. Now he has a hamstring tightness. I guess we will have to wait longer to see some better results.
Mets do it again. 4-3. Unbelievable.
Unbelievable at bat by Davis to win the game.

Is there any Met fan out there that expected Rosario to do what has been doing? I'd like to see McNeil at third next year, keeping Panik at second,. that would put Davis in left with Nimmo and Conforto filling the outfield positions. Lawrie will need a position also.
