2019 Coaching Changes

Saw the UNLV staff and team eating dinner at the buffet at Aria on Wed night. They didn't look too enthused in the very few moments I noticed them.

I feel for Matt. He's the only coach who truly has been pulling his own weight by all accounts and been effective. GSJ seems to put lots of effort in, but it just isn't paying off. I can respect those who work their arses off but come up short at least. Matt has been shooting flare signals and SOS signals begging for help and voicing his displeasure with the recruiting situation. They have all been ignored for years. If he leaves, our staff deserves it IMO. If we were playing to our expectations the past 2 years, Matt would have brought us some stud HS kids by now IMO.

Fanbase believes this is long overdue. Interesting his name was bandied about for SJU job specifically when Jarvis had one foot out the door in 2000.

On feast of St. Joseph day, too.

Always seemed like he built good teams, but never had a good program. They'd be good for a year or two (great in 2004, obviously), and then it would be right back into the abyss again.

Similar to a lot of the criticism Lavin got while he was here, and some of what Mullin is getting now.

He was the head coach for 24 years there and assistant coach for 10 years prior. When someone is at one place that long, they usually attain the status where they can't get fired but only leave on their own. A but surprising to me.

I think that is the point there was a feeling he should have done what Dunphy did at Temple this year. Realize that you maybe overstaying your welcome and announce you are retiring before the season. In other words know when to say when. Program had grown stale for awhile now. That way you go out on your own terms instead of what happened. But you need to recognize that the end is near.

Per Pete Thamel
Source: BC coach Jim Christian will return next season. The school plans to commit additional resources, support staff and provide overall program enhancements.

His record 62-100

Wow, 2 Big 5 openings this year. That’s big news here in Philly. You put it well. The program has grown stale, with poor recruiting and results. It will be weird attending a Big 5 game at the Palestra, and not seeing his shiny melon on the sideline. However, as they say, “the Hawk will never die”!

I'm shocked, even though as Fordham mentioned the fan base felt it was a long time coming.

ESPN ranked coaches who were players in the NCAA tourney this year. To be clear they ranked them as players not coaches. Mullin coming in at #1 with Hurley making top 5.[/quote]

Unclear on where you think Mullin would rank as a coach :)
