While I like Tim Miles (he looks like an accountant), Hoiberg would be a great get for Nebraska

Read between the lines in terms of why this hire of Hoiberg by Nebraska could impact SJU...

Matt's going to ask for more money here and he'll either get it and stay or he won't and he'll leave.

From what I hear not sure money is necessarily the big issue. But who knows...

This is why I was begging for help for Matt for so long...he has the leverage saying "I do all the recruiting...would you rather me leave? Pay up". If you get him more help, suddenly we don't rely solely on him and he's probably a lot happier.

I'm "fine" either way.

Frankly, Matt is the only member of the coaching staff that it would hurt to lose. He's earned more bucks and more help recruiting.

To be honest so am I.

This staff even if Chris stays needs to be blown up and re-constructed. And Ii am not losing sleep even if Matt is not here next year.

Given the job Matt did at Iowa State and ultimately the impact it had on Hoiberg's success, it seems highly unlikely that he won't call Matt and pop the question.

For sure , Matt is a great Asset . He and Hoiberg built Iowa State on Transfers . And , they would likely use that formula again ... it’s doubtful, they would get very many Zion Williamson’s to Nebraska our of HS . UCLA might be different although the Bruins aren’t the draw for kids like they were .. and , there is no satisfying that Fan base if you aren’t Final 4 every year . Alford wasn’t a bad Coach but , he got mixed into the Bell Family nightmare and it destructed . He will Coach again , for sure . Like Crean did going to Georgia , after Indiana . Archie Miller better win more and soon , or he will be job hunting too. Hoosier fans aren’t long term investors . And , they expect their Coach to get every top player and players from Indiana, every year . It’s tough to do .

Never smart to go to the well too often. Hopefully he isn’t.

Does anyone know if Hoiberg and Matt are actually close? I assume they could match his salary no problem. . .

The better more relevant question is does anyone know if Matt is actually close to the people he CURRENTLY works for and with?

FWIW.......a quote from Matt when he was leaving ISU.

“Unbelievable,” Abdelmassih said when asked about Hoiberg’s level of support. “I know some day I’m going to work with that guy again — I hope at least. But he and his wife (Carol), they’re family. So yes, he’s been unbelievably supportive. He and Chris Mullin are friends. It’s not every day you can transition to a dream job and work with what you consider family. That’s what it’s going to be at St. John’s. That’s what it was at Iowa State.”

Tick...tick...tick...
Marvin Menzies fired after three years.

His three years looking familiar
Word is first choice by Vegas is Thad Matta. Money is not an issue.

Once again if his back is OK and he has the desire he would be a great hire at UNLV.

Menzies inherited a program in flux, with very little returning talent. He improved the team last year and this year, his third, he finished the season tied for fourth with 20 wins. His best player was lost for most of the season.

Most out here thought he merited another year, but major donor(s) wanted him out and the AD went along. Menzies was only making $700,000, with an $800,000 buyout. Top salary in conference is Eric Musselman at one million. It appears the donors will have the final say in this matter, as they do with the football job.
