2019 Coaching Changes

Hsu has a connection to LJ as well. Seems like a grinder. I’d sign up for him and Pecora and if GSJ leaves another recruiter with coaching experience.

yeah but now its in the press. going to be hard to change a staff with only 2 years left on your contract and haven't been extended.
But there are ACs out there without jobs like Tony Chiles who would come here.
My question is, since this has been ‘in the press’ for over a week, has Chris reached out to ‘any’ AC candidates?
Heard his short list includes Rico Hines and Deuce

Matt is the most replaceable guy on the staff if you ask me. We can find someone to bring in players. I didn’t see him bringing any 5 star studs during his time here.

Frankly he rubbed me the wrong way feeding his buddy Zach information on a regular basis and following/unfollowing players on social media like a little petulant bald child. A bit of a bitch move he pulled with LSU 2 years ago as well. Can’t fault him for this one but I’m happy he’s gone frankly.

A combo of Pinkney and Pecora could be a huge face lift to this staff. GSJ needs to go!!!!!

Did not C M promise on his intro to as H. C to go to every gym and have every door open for him and be the head recruiter. Did Chris lie ?

Chris was everywhere in his first year with Slice in local gyms. Then Matt stabbed Slice in the back and Chris sold his north shore house months after buying it because of family issues. He then became bicoastal and everything has been dysfunctional ever since. The connection to Golden State has also been an unnecessary distraction. If two strong assistants are hired it may quiet the skeptical but recruiting and player development has been a bust with Mitch on the bench so I sense it will become shit or get off the pot with Cragg and Mullin with Bobby G taking the 5th.

One could see Marc Hsu @MarcHsu21 either being the second recruiting shark added to #Nebraska or heading home to St.John’s. He’s been instrumental in landing players at challenging places like Western Kentucky, NM St., , Cal-State Bakersfield & Binghamton. #SJUBB
Sounds like more than 1 new AC hire (in addition to replacing Matt) may be in play?
Hope so.

You’re nuts. Matt is by far the least replaceable. I say cut em all loose, and hire a couple new guys here.

As diehard Johnnie and Redmen fans, we're in this together.
We're all concerned about the future of the program in these uncertain days.
I don't think it helps to either spew out the doom 'n gloom rhetoric nor to be myopic about our present situation and dismiss those who express concern.
It seems we clearly face a critical juncture that may well determine the program's future--beyond next year.
So, we should call for appropriate and proactive action to keep on top of what has to be done.
This buzz about a list of potential AC additions is the best 'buzz' we've gotten recently.
Thanks to Paultz, '96, Moose, LJSA. Mjmaher, JohnnyFan, Las Vegan, RedStormNC, Redmannorth & others for sharing.

I hope so. We need a strong head coach that hustles and that recruits and he fans believe in.

Lol you’re right I was reactionary AF and was exaggerating. Think we all know MITCH is the most replaceable. My point was definitely that Matt leaving isn’t a negative in my eyes

Pecora, Pinckney and Hsu would be a major score at this point considering all that’s gone on. A guy like Phelps would be good also. A Queens kid who maybe can be the successor. Who knows, let’s just hope the program lands on its feet after all this upheaval. We just have to trust that Cragg has a handle on all this.

I feel like Matt hit the ceiling here, and the timing of this is actually pretty decent. Put Mitch back to whatever the special assistant role he had in year one, and hire two of the guys on that list, and I think we're in pretty good shape.

I'd be very happy with that denouement.

He doesn't deserve that. He deserves a one way ticket back to Cali

Carrying a Special Assistant in this age of tight SJU budgets is excessive Imo

Sadly, I tend to agree Moose.
But, a major shuffle in the Staff ASAP would be a significant improvement that hopefully results in roster consistency and in on-court success.
I'd be shocked if the 'changes' involve more than that.

Hsu would be a HUGE upgrade over Matt. Even more creative recruiter than Matt, better talent evaluator than Matt, can actually coach, and has connections to some interesting potential transfers. Full disclosure though...I know him and I’m biased.
