2019 Coaching Changes

From Zach: Abdelmassih did virtually all of it for them, and they haven’t had anyone recruiting since season ended. #sjubb

This is infuriating to read. Mullin needs to step down.
That’s gross negligence on Mullin’s part. Gross.
If that is true and it’s been grumbled about earlier, that’s unbelievable with what’s at stake.
Hoping Cragg is on top of the situation.

Mullin is so bad at this job so I’m not surprised nobody has been recruiting since the season has ended but I’m stunned Mike Cragg didn’t jump on top of this earlier.

Maybe he has.

I would think Nebraska , Lincoln especially , might be as tough to recruit to as Des Moines. Ia. It’s a football school that lost its footing in joining the Big 10 and haven’t set the World on fire in BB either . Tough job, despite the money . Which just shows how much money these large State schools have to throw around in comparison to private Catholic Colleges . Like the BE . I would be very surprised if Hoiberg and Matt can break the top tier of Michigan, Michigan State , Purdue , Ohio State , Indiana , Wisconsin and Iowa and Maryland . They probably can beat Penn State, Rutgers, and maybe Northwestern. Might be even with Minnesota . How many top level kids want to go to Nebraska ? Besides , Creighton is the winning team in the State and gets the bulk of attention .

If Goodman, Zach and others are now reporting that Matt is leaving, have to assume Mullin has known for at the very least a few days. If he hasn't been actively looking for a replacement, he should certainly be fired unless he is stepping down. But doubt anyone on this board knows whether he has or hasn't been looking. Totally agree that a replacement needs to be in place almost immediately after Matt makes it official. We'll see what happens.

You think Hoiberg will fail? I'll bet he does pretty good.

Btw Matt leaving goes directly to dysfunction of the staff and that goes to HC. If the staff were better designed and team and roster were better positioned to succeed he may not leave...

Again not suggesting he is irreplaceable but people need to see bigger picture here. This goes back to HC.

We will know the answer with how quickly they act to fill Matt’s spot, hopefully a contingency plan is in place.

Slyfoxx reread your post and let things sink in.
You just pointed out how Creighton has been a winning team. Well if Creighton can win why wouldn’t the much bigger and financially capable school , in a higher profile conference win ? Hoibergjust got a 7 year contract which shows no one thinks it will happen overnight but if they can consistently improve from year to year there is no reason to believe they cannot break into the upper echelon of the big ten in five years. Matt is the perfect recruiter for them as Nebraska is not a bball hot bed and transfers may help greatly in the first few seasons.

He was very successful at Iowa State. No reason to think he can't be successful at Nebraska.

Top level kids will go anywhere if they think it will help them get to the next level. Hoiberg has a few of things going for him. He was an NBA player, coach, and executive. He was also very successful at Iowa State.

All that was foreseen will eventually come to pass. Matt leaving will precipitate the departure of the current staff. One new assistant coach cannot fix what is wrong. It pisses many off that this is ultimately at the feet of an inexperienced college president who listened to all the wrong people who now have turned on Chris Mullin. No AD for 3 years was a damaging thing to the program and it's reputation. The first person to step down before Mullin should be Bobby Gampsesaw or whatever his name is.

Add Oliva to that too

Per Andrew Slater
One could see Marc Hsu @MarcHsu21 either being the second recruiting shark added to #Nebraska or heading home to St.John’s. He’s been instrumental in landing players at challenging places like Western Kentucky, NM St., , Cal-State Bakersfield & Binghamton. #SJUBB

Now we can cancel the season :)

College or pro?

Watch we lose two coaches and Mitch is still here

Per sources, Tom Pecora, Ed Pinckney, Derrick Phelps and Marc Hsu are four names that could be in play for assistant spot at St Johns. #sjubb
Zach B

Pinckney name has been out there a bit this week.
