2019 Coaching Changes

As much as Lav wasn't a good coach, I do miss going into offseasons excited for next year with lots of highly rated recruits. The only coaching issue was that Dunlap left because the consensus was that he was a pretty good coach. We all slept at night knowing the coaches were at least trying their best and they were very visible out there recruiting. Now we are a part-time job apparently. Can we be the bride and not a bridesmaid?

Just get it done already. Don't they know our pathetic program is on hold until Hoiberg's contract is finalized?
Thought it was a done deal like people were saying.
Part of the holdup is Hoiberg has been on vacation and then came back to see his son as indicated above who is a walk on at MSU play in the NCAA's. Fred will be in DC tonight.

Be odd to see him coach against his son next year in the B10 unless his son decides to transfer to Nebraska.

If I remember correctly, Lavin didn’t recruit much his last year knowing his fate.

Yes, correct...just meant the first few years.

Bad move - there are better options available

Mark is the type of coach that would good to sit on SJU bench as an assistant

I agree he is not a sexy pick for Cal I would have gone for a Jon Scheyer type of assistant.

Lavin knew he was out. Extremely tough to recruit with two years left on contract. Also, it was no secret Mullin was being mentioned to taking over the job.

Lavin at least sold the program. Was always on TV getting our name out there. I think it is disgraceful the school has not sent anything out as of yet about Ponds going pro. When Harkless went pro Lavin at least set something up to do it via press conference at MSG.

Speaking of Harkless, the other day I saw a kid playing an NBA videogame playing as Portland. Saw Harkless dunk it right at that moment...honestly a really cool moment seeing one of our own making it and sticking. We need much more of those stories.

Here's the "noise" we've been hearing.....

Hearing that St. John's assistant Matt Abdelmassih likely will be headed to Nebraska to join old boss Fred Hoiberg unless there is a last-minute snag in Hoiberg's negotiations with the 'Huskers #sjubb

BREAKING: Alabama has hired Buffalo's Nate Oats as its next head basketball coach, per @Greg_Byrne.
So much for the extension he signed two weeks ago.
Not that we were ready to fire and hire and take advantage of the availability of a great young coach, but I'm always envious of how quickly other schools act when they have work to do. Avery Johnson fired a few days ago. Nate Oats hired yesterday. It would take us several months to get that done .

We know Matt’s not recruiting now. If it is indeed true that nobody is recruiting now for SJU, I say fire the whole staff and start over.

Once Matt's leaving is confirmed, I think the shit will hit the fan and this board will go nuts. That will force change(s) to be made.
Hopefully, Matt is candid on his way out the door and we can improve the program going forward.

If Matt goes, we should blow the whole thing up and hire Pitino, who would be a perfect fit. I'm sure he's dying for a D1 job. St. John's is a great place to come back to. Started in the Big East and can end his career here. Themes of asking for penance and acts of atonement. Catholic forgiveness of sins. He would have us in the Elite Eight in two years. Can't write a story much better than that. The only downside is, Little Richard probably takes over when he's ready to step down.

Randy Bennett will be pissed that someone like Fox is able to get that job.

I don't get how any poster wouldn't know this was happening.

My questions are: What is happening behind closed doors about the state of the program: the coaching staff, departures/replacements; the roster, departures/replacements?
If Matt is indeed ‘gone’, is Mullin seeking out at least 1 recruiter to replace him?
Are talks ongoing with the players?
And a statement: I thought Mullin would meet with his Staff early this week and then meet with the AD.
What’s the status with that?
What is going on with the program?
