I take it you aren't a big donor as you didnt get the call, nor presented with the letter to sign that was sent to Bobby and Mike! No more money!! Yeah we are going to push for Pitino, as well as bringing back former players to be involved in the program! Good luck Tom at overpowering Mr. Brennan. Chris is his guy.

Question, when it turns out that nothing you're hinting at is remotely true or just never happens, will you ban yourself from here?

My apologies, you are correct

I like the idea of former players getting involved in the program. Two guys that stick out to me are Marcus Hatten and D'Angelo Harrison. I think either of them could be an asset on a coaching staff.

As far as Pitino is concerned. I highly doubt SJU would consider him. They went back and forth on Mike Rice because of his checkered past, and all he did was scream at kids. Pitino is an adulterer, and known cheat who paid players. That will have to be hard for the school higher-ups to accept.
I love Hatten and Harrison. But I think our next overhaul should include a staff filled with experienced basketball coaches and recruiters. Once we're established maybe we can afford to have an inexperienced alum take a position.
I would only consider either of them if a real head coach with experience was brought in, like Pitino, like the poster who started this rumor said. If Mullin sticks around bringing in D'lo or Hatten obviously would be problematic. But in this fantasy where we get Pitino and one of those guys, I can see Pitino grooming one of them to take over after he retired since he is 66 years old, if either one of them proves to have any coaching acumen. I can see either of them turning into what Holloway is now at SH.

I am not the big fish in this ring of last salvation. As far as banding myself, I stayed off of here for 4 years during Mullin and kept my mouth shut. If Matt leaves, please tell me which ass coach will come here knowing the HC has 2 years left, so basically they get a 2 year maybe contract to be an ass coach...I hoped Mullin would of worked out but between AAU not seeing him around, HS coaches not seeing him around, and the debacle this season turned out to be I can understand and decided it was time to join the choir. I believe we all want SJU to be what it once was at Minimum. There is only so many times you can cry wolf as the school has hyping up the team, and they fall flat. Thanks

Not sure why you keeping beating the Simon drum? You constantly use speculation to rile up the board. Now going after his academics? Simon is coming back. End of story.

Not really, just thought initially he could go grad transfer route, never said was. My error was even mentioning the qualifying assumption for which I apologized. If that is not enough, not sure what else to tell you. Send me a pm if you want to discuss further, thx.

I hate to pile on Mullin. He is, after all, along with Louie, the face of our program. But his tenure has been very shaky, to say the least. Just imagine where this year's team would've been if Heron, who had fallen into his lap at the last moment, and Figueroa weren't granted immediate eligibility. Sorry to say -- and sad to say -- it's time for a change.
I have to agree with you. The “shouldn’t be” comment is confusing, must be based on increase wins. However, this team underperformed this year plain and simple. If there are some major shakeups on the staff then I would be ok on the wait and see approach. But if the staff remains the same, he needs to step down.
I’m putting my feelings as Mullin the coach aside. He inherited shit and in his 4th year he made the tourney. Add to the fact he’s the face of the program and firing him would be crazy. Again I wouldn’t be upset if he decided to leave but asking for him to be fired is asking for something that will not happen.
If he was just a normal coach and not the face of the program what would you like to happen, especially if the staff remain in tact or replace one person (Matt)?

Most people thought this hire would backfire and then we would face the difficult decision on what to do. This is why IMO I wished he was never hired.

We still doing this stupid Pitno dance huh? This nonsense needs to stop Mullin is staying for the upcoming year. Let’s worry more about the players who are leaving than this BS about Pitno or any other coach who won’t be coming.
This sums up the sorry state of our program: Instead of eagerly awaiting an influx of highly rated talent that'll be coming in next season -- like we did with Lavin's first class -- we're faced with worrying about about players who are leaving or rumored to be leaving.
Agree, dealing with the crap every year is getting old. It would be nice to have an off-season where the focus can be just recruiting with more than one coach.

Mullin is the only person in the world St. John’s was going to hire without ever coaching before. That’s why it’s different. Doesn’t mean it was right. They didn’t hire him because they thought he was was a good coach, they hired him because they thought he could become one.

I’m not defending the hire. I’m not defending him as a coach. But as a program, firing the guy 4 years in after knowing it wasn’t gonna be a quick turnaround and he’s proven he can at the very least get St. John’s to the tourney would be craaaazier than an opposing foothills council student section when JG3 is in town.

You make the point that Mullin has proven he can get St. John's to the tourney. I believe that many here, if not the majority, believe that Matt had more of a role in getting the team to the tourney than the HC. In fact, most would probably argue that they made the tourney in spite of Mullin, not because of him. My position is that when most well coached teams gelled, our team played its worst basketball of the season. I pointed out maybe 3 good halves of basketball in the last 8 games. Watching the tournament, it's clear a number of teams with size or talent deficiencies came in with a game-plan, and made the games competitive. Let's just say that we didn't look anything like the rest of the field in terms of cohesiveness, defensive effort, and execution.

The same Matt who half the board are excited to see leave. The same Matt CM hired. You can talk semantics but mullin lead St. John’s to the tourney. That’s a freaking fact. Underachieved sure. But he got us to the tournament and he is not going to get fired after his fourth year. This is not me saying he’s a good coach or should be our coach moving forward. This is me saying there is no shot in hell St. John’s fires him right now based on his performance.

Name one player who has improved under Mullin's coaching. I believe we made the tourney because we got lucky with LJ exceeding anyone's expectations and Heron getting his exemption. I agree with a prior post that we made the tourney in spite of Mullin. Make no mistake, next year is going to be a disaster. I think many on this board want to see the inevitable rebuild start next year rather than see the program run further into the ground for another year or two.

I can understand anyone personally not wanting CM to be the coach next year. Reasonable minds can agree disagree there.

I cannot understand anyone thinking St. John’s is in position to fire CM after making the tournament in his 4th year with SJU knowing full well when he was hired that he wasn’t a day one fix.

These threads on 2019-20, Coaching Changes, 2019 Transfers, Cameron Mack, Next Year, et al, are incredibly frustrating to read.
It’s tracking the demise of something we hold deep allegiance to and not be able to do anything to stop it from imploding.
We need a better HC, an effective and fully-functioning Staff, and a roster, including recruits, that is talented, deep, and well-structured.
We’ve got none of that.
We won’t get a new HC or a full- staff revamp.
If we’re ‘lucky’ we’ll get a new AC to replace Matt...in a month.
Meanwhile,we are watching the shell of a roster that we do have crack and fall away.
Only the Hoop Gods know the details, but anybody with ‘senses’ knows it won’t be good.
Well,bring on the Season.
We’ll be rooting for miracles.

My concern is that this past year is the best it will get. I'd be shocked if Matt doesn't leave and I'm expecting a mass exodus.

We need two recruiters, preferably at least one of them with X's and O's acumen. I unfortunately don't trust Mullin to make the correct hires.

I think the money can be found for a "mutual" parting. I'm just not sure the political will exists outside of Cragg, so don't want to get my hopes up.

I can live with a Mullin/ex-coach like Rice (but know it won't be him)/Rasheen Davis/GSJ combo for next year. But Mullin/Richmond/GSJ/Tim Hardaway next season looks like a seven-man roster to me. And a pathetic win total.

I know posters are hoping Heron returns. I don't think he does unless Mullin is back in Danville, Calif.

Yes, we do need a new HD, but it won't happen this year. It will happen after next year, since we'll awful next year, so that puts us one year behind.
Why not start a rebuild with a HD with a plan, instead of the current coach in year 5, doesn't make much sense to me.
Oh the contract and money, how about a 4 year contract, if he wants 5 or 6 years then make him prove first that he can do the job, then give him the long term contract.
If he turns it down, then to me he never meant to recruit in the first place so good bye.
No more repeating the same stupid mistakes over and over.

Mullin has to go.. SJU isn’t no on a low note with some talent in place. Move this thing along with a top notch coach and try to keep this roster together a bit. Our fan support at msg was amazing this year in terms of numbers. Hungry fan base. Don’t let that momentum die. Cut any losses and move on.
It’s only up to mullin. If he chose to leave I wouldn’t be upset about it but there’s no way he’s getting fired. And he shouldn’t be.

You're acting like making the tournament was some great accomplishment, when they only made it because of a very weak bubble, plus we were the last ones in. So you know in a regular year they'd be in the nit right? It would be 0 ncaa tourny's in 4 years, so yeah CM could be very thankful.

I'll say this: If Matt returns, and a few from last year return then yeah CM should stay.
If Matt leaves and everyone leaves, and we gotta go through a total rebuild, then to me he has to go.

Just my opinion.

Matt is a great dude, but all his job is to recruit and poach. No coaching, film review, strategy, training. None of these recruits will leave because Matt goes to Nebraska. Cam Mack is here cuz of LJ. He loves NYC. He loves the stage. It's business. Steere is here cuz of David. Eli Wright is here for the opportunity to play. Could it affect Kuminga and Curbelo? Yes. With that said, I'm not even sure he leaves. We will see.
