All of this leading to the same conclusion. Mullin has to go.. SJU isn’t no on a low note with some talent in place. Move this thing along with a top notch coach and try to keep this roster together a bit. Our fan support at msg was amazing this year in terms of numbers. Hungry fan base. Don’t let that momentum die. Cut any losses and move on.
It’s only up to mullin. If he chose to leave I wouldn’t be upset about it but there’s no way he’s getting fired. And he shouldn’t be.

In the era of millennials needing instant gratification like it’s oxygen this grad transfer rule is perfect. Finishing what you started is a dead principle for the young athlete. I’m technically a millenial but do not associate or relate!

Simon should hope he finds a coaching staff who will not allow him to play if he does not play within himself. In his case that would mean no shooting, dribbling or passing. Think he will flourish if he finds a staff who will set himself up to just defend and dunk. Good luck to him!

If all this is potentially true there is no way I believe CM will stay and take the beating this year, he's a legend and a winner not sure his legacy/ego could take it. IMHO

I expect there will be roster and coaching turnover.
I hope that LJ, Simon, Ponds, and Heron all return.
I assume they won't all return.
The tea leaves say I will get my hopes really high before next season.
The reality is we will be scrambling again.
Ultimately, I will find always something to root for and be checking the rumors, rants, and insights on this board (heck I remember being at Kevin Clark's one big east win and think how exciting that was).

I hate to pile on Mullin. He is, after all, along with Louie, the face of our program. But his tenure has been very shaky, to say the least. Just imagine where this year's team would've been if Heron, who had fallen into his lap at the last moment, and Figueroa weren't granted immediate eligibility. Sorry to say -- and sad to say -- it's time for a change.

“Shouldn’t be” maybe but the teams we are competing with are laying off coaches with better records than Mullin. I agree that our overall record and the fact that we made the tourney make us on paper successful enough. That said, if Matt leaves, we are essentially losing our head coach because he brought ALL the talent here.

Bottom line is that our results overall this season don’t tell the whole story. We are on brink of another implosion without a good coaching to be found. It’s a bad recipe. We won on Abdelmassih’s talent alone. It’s why Mullin imho should be moved on from. Because that record overall is based solely on our talent, not coaching. The coaching was awful.

If the starting lineup is:
Heron, Simon, Figgy, Steere and Mack, with Wright, Caraher, Trimble, Valdir off the bench, then anywhere from 6 to 9 conference wins.
If no Heron, then 3 to 6 wins is likely. Big East will be better. We will be worse. Unless someone is a huge surprise.
Win totals factoring in the same staff, minus Matt. Also, likely at the bottom in 3 point shooting percentage.
Meanwhile, questions on Valdir's eligibility and his skill level at this point, and Steere may not be eligible until the second semester. Not a pretty picture.

Mike Cragg is about to get his big opportunity! Wallets are open awaiting the big announcement ! There will be a big push for Pitino!! You heard it here first! Cragg will not risk his 30 plus year career on a high risk candidate! Hearing major changes within a week!!!
Expecting staff turnover and roster fallout shortly. Would not be penciling in all the key guys being bandied about for next season.
If Matt leaves, do you think some of the guys he brought in would also leave?
Is that what you’re proffering?
Would guys sit out 2 years?!?
That seems crazy.
I suppose Simon could leave & join Matt...?
Ugh.

This seems bizarro, Tom!
Would Pitino come here is the first question!
The second point is many posters, including me, wouldn’t welcome him, at least initially.
I’m a big believer in ‘redemption’ but his case is special!

I am hearing a mutual parting of ways is being considered! And I know bigger former donors who believe like I do that this will be the last best opportunity. Pitino has been rehabbing his image behind the scene! What better way to complete the rehab than penance and building a monster! There will be pressure from alumni and the BE to get it right! My fear if this does not work it will be A 10

Tom you lost me at A 10, there is no shot with our affiliation with MSG that the Big east would move us out and we would go to the A 10.

Of all the supposed chatter of players moving on i say go. If your not happy then leave. I hope that Greg Williams and Roberts stick around because i think they have potential to be really good basketball players.

GTFOH

Saying something to yourself doesn’t count as hearing it.

I think that we are just as likely to have Rick P as coach next year as we do to be 'kicked out to the A 10'. I'm putting the over under at 0%.

Did not imply guys sitting out two years, just expecting some fallout. Let’s leave it that.

Unbelievable speculation! I have no clue what the ‘odds’ are but still seem ‘lottery’-like.
As an aside, I’d be stunned if MC came here to shepherd the transition to the A-10.
Gawd, I hope not.
But I do agree, it’s critical that St. John’s not take steps back at this juncture and get this program poised to succeed.
1 winning season in 4 years and then to begin another losing cycle would be horrible for the program and for us diehard fans.

K thanks Paultz. Appreciate the feedback.

At this point I'm just hoping Matt goes to Nebraska ASAP (seems inevitable), just so Mullin would be more likely to step down. We need to build for the future and Mullin's reputation as a coach is beyond repair at this point. Fixing it would require a great season next year, and that seems very unlikely.
