2019-20

Sounds like Matt is indeed gone.
And I’m bracing myself that Heron and Simon will leave as well as Keita, Trimble Jr., and maybe 1 of Williams Jr., or Robers or perhaps both.
So it may get uglier before it improves, but we’ll rebound (no pun!).

SJU isn’t no on a low note with some talent in place. Move this thing along with a top notch coach and try to keep this roster together a bit. Our fan support at msg was amazing this year in terms of numbers. Hungry fan base. Don’t let that momentum die. Cut any losses and move on.
It’s only up to mullin. If he chose to leave I wouldn’t be upset about it but there’s no way he’s getting fired. And he shouldn’t be.
I hate to pile on Mullin. He is, after all, along with Louie, the face of our program. But his tenure has been very shaky, to say the least. Just imagine where this year's team would've been if Heron, who had fallen into his lap at the last moment, and Figueroa weren't granted immediate eligibility. Sorry to say -- and sad to say -- it's time for a change.
I have to agree with you. The “shouldn’t be” comment is confusing, must be based on increase wins. However, this team underperformed this year plain and simple. If there are some major shakeups on the staff then I would be ok on the wait and see approach. But if the staff remains the same, he needs to step down.

The scenario for next season is trending in the wrong direction. I can't even imagine what a month from now will look like.

I'm all for bringing back former players to be involved in the program. Whenever I speak with one of them -- most recently at the BE tourney -- I always get the same response: a sad shake of the head and a look and/or comment of frustration and annoyance. Optimistically hoping our new AD will do something about that.

One thing for certain: It’s never dull around here.
Lol.

We still doing this stupid Pitno dance huh? This nonsense needs to stop Mullin is staying for the upcoming year. Let’s worry more about the players who are leaving than this BS about Pitno or any other coach who won’t be coming.
I hope next year " next year threads " are banned
I hope they are unnecessary next year.

I like the idea of former players getting involved in the program. Two guys that stick out to me are Marcus Hatten and D'Angelo Harrison. I think either of them could be an asset on a coaching staff.

As far as Pitino is concerned. I highly doubt SJU would consider him. They went back and forth on Mike Rice because of his checkered past, and all he did was scream at kids. Pitino is an adulterer, and known cheat who paid players. That will have to be hard for the school higher-ups to accept.

You want to talk about bringing in a known cheater, the conversation should begin and end with Kelvin Sampson. He’s won every step along the way and probably has learned to cheat without getting caught at this point. 100% certain we don’t have the resources to lure him though.

Let Pitino enjoy his ouzo and dolmades I can say from experience Greece is way more appealing if they’re paying you and the Greek league is the 2nd toughest in the world only behind the NBA.

I’m putting my feelings as Mullin the coach aside. He inherited shit and in his 4th year he made the tourney. Add to the fact he’s the face of the program and firing him would be crazy. Again I wouldn’t be upset if he decided to leave but asking for him to be fired is asking for something that will not happen.

I love Hatten and Harrison. But I think our next overhaul should include a staff filled with experienced basketball coaches and recruiters. Once we're established maybe we can afford to have an inexperienced alum take a position.

I wouldn't read anything into that.

When he was introduced at the Butler game, it was mentioned that he is finishing up his degree at St. John's. Presumably, that will be done in May. Maybe he's just looking to stick around NYC afterwards (don't know what his family situation is).

Hope I am wrong, but from the rumblings, and Paultz's inferences, I sense a real SH%& show coming. :(

Mass exodus has been rumored for a while now. Not necessarily staff though.

This sums up the sorry state of our program: Instead of eagerly awaiting an influx of highly rated talent that'll be coming in next season -- like we did with Lavin's first class -- we're faced with worrying about about players who are leaving or rumored to be leaving.

I wanted Pearl here. Mullin wasn’t even on my top 20 wish list.

8 > 14 > 16 > 21 wins for Mullin. He’s improved by at least two wins every year. Can we wait until he doesn’t improve just once to fire him? He made the tournament — something Roberts never came close to in six years — in just his fourth season. He’s not great and he’s not bad.

Can we at least react to bad news if/when it comes instead of assuming the worst and then imputing that onto Mullin and next season? Is that too much to ask?

Unless we hear about changes with the staff -- especially a prime-time recruiter -- no news is bad news.
