2014 World Cup

no comments from anyone ? damn even I watched the game. I figured you guys would be going nuts. lol[/quote

Here's a comment: USA-USA-USA!!!

Great win, two chances and two goals. Who the heck is John Brooks? :cheer:

We survived a bit of an onslaught between the two goals and it looked like a point was all we were going to get. Great team spirit. Thought Howard, Beasley, Beckerman and Hones were great. Bradley a bit sub-par. Altidore actually looked decent until he was injured.

And what a finish by our man from Nacogdoches!

We should be very confident going into the Portugal game. Just contain Ronaldo and the battle is half won.

Disappointed about losing Altidore. I agree we can beat Portugal.

Spain OUT!!! Death to tiki-taka!

The Aussies gave the Dutch a run for their money today, great game. 3-2 final.

Great goalkeeping by Ochoa yesterday for Mexico, superb save from Neymar. Russian goalie on the other hand...

Wonderful tournament so far. Open games, lots of goals. Aside from the very first game, the ref's have been keeping out of the limelight.

"If there are 23 players better than Landon Donovan, then we have a chance at winning the World Cup."

That Arena quote is a bit disingenuous. He was protecting one of his guys. First off we understand Klinsmann doesn't like Donovan personally, because Donovan is a bit flakey. And the sabbatcal from soccer was the last straw.

But it is also about how Donovan fits into this team. Maybe they needed to move away from him to change things abound. And was having a mediocre year in MLS. The US advancing out of its group will not be predicated on Donovan being on the roster or not, imo. This is Bradley's team. He is the engine.
I know they they had a falling out after Klinsmann brought Donovan to Bayern Munich, just wondering where 'Donovan is a bit flakey' comes from? Is that an opinion you got from media reports or just your personal opinion?

Landycakes, as he's known, will admit he's a flake.
Primary reason Klinsmann doesn't like him.

Flaky. Has lived and played almost forever in his home town of LA.
Short stints in Europe that never worked out.
Took almost a year off from soccer 2 years ago saying he needed a break.
Beats to his own drummer, which for some reason antagonizes some people.
Incredible natural talent who just did things his way.

Cameroon sucks. That keeper should be ashamed of himself.

He was bad. Worse still was Alex Song who got a red card early in the game for trying to maim a Croat with his elbow... and then there was the other two from Cameroon who at the end of the game decided to have a fight on the field - before the game was even over. Talk about lack of discipline

Tom essentially explained Donovan's personality. He was immensely talented, and he was sucessful on the national team. All-time leading scorer in US national team history, which included some memorable clutch goals. But his failure in Europe is a mystery. He always like being the big soccer fish in the small MLS pond. Perhaps it was the mental, certainly on the physical, for failing in Europe. Lesser talents than Donovan carved out nice careers in Europe.

The sabbatical is something that will also put a stain on his career. Taking a self imposed leave from the sport to clear his head, left everyone else scratching thiers.
