2012/13 roster

And I don't think anyone is transferring because that news would have come out already.

Why? For example, the announcement of Polee transfering was made May 22, 2011.

Man you are so literal.

I don't know why it was. But in light of the fact there have been how many transfers this spring, you would think if a kid wanted to make a move, now is the time, because the longer you wait, the chances of landing somewhere you really want shrink.

concerning the scholarships issue, wasn't Jamal white under scholarship this past season? wouldn't his free one up for the upcoming season? i could of sworn lavin gave him a ship..

It's crazy seeing an abundance of players after our decimated roster of the past year...I am so stoked about this upcoming season. I wish I didn't have to wait 5 months for the pre season to start. Exciting times at STJ...on another note though, what's peoples opinion on Wood and Balamou actually qualifying this year. Thankfully even if they don't we still have a deep roster where it won't affect us that much as it did last year.

When is Hooper available? Early 2013?

Fall 2013..Has to sit this whole year
Thanks. That's what I thought but we have to hold a schollie for him the entire season he is not here?

Apparently so. I questioned that too, however according to Moose, it doesn't matter. I was hoping there was a way around it so that we could have two still available. Others think that if both want to come here and qualify that we will get both, so I guess there is a way that Lavin will still be able to add 2 more

Yea, if a player is at a school to play ball he has to assume a scholarship regardless of if he's playing or sitting out.

Thanks, didn't realize that. That's where I missing the number. I wasn't counting Hooper and thought we had 2 slots open in which I hoped were Nolan and Chandler.

I don't believe Hooper is getting a scholarship.

Well lets see it when the class is announced. For all those who have picked up on our committs including a guy like Zags there has been no mention thus far. But until then we have to assume he is, however he seems to be the most likely to clear space.

Maybe he is getting a schollie but of the academic kind.. he is coming from Harvard so he must know a few things.

Amir Garrett's scholarship is being paid by the Cincinnati Reds, but it counts against the 13 limit
If Hooper gets an academic scholarship, that would count against the 13 limit as well
The only way he wouldn't count amomng the 13 was if he was a walkon and paid for his education at St John's

Not true. We recruited Garrett which is different and he is a pro athlete. Different set of rules. If we followed the rules, Hooper as a transfer probably does qualify for an academic scholarship. My gut tells me that Hooper likely won't be using an athletic ship at SJU. We just have to wait and find out. That would be great for SJU as well as Hooper. Get a solid player and terrific shooter and not use an athletic ship for him.

How many academic schollies do you see? Not many I don't think. Walking on and paying his own way seems to be the easiest avenue when you put two and two together

Certainly works as well. Just speculating. If he meets criteria for academic scholarship, it's not a problem either. He's transferring from Harvard making him likely one of the better students on our campus and likely worthy of one.

Did anybody ever hear if that kid from San Francisco, Raggington, made it to campus this weekend?

Does he fit into the staff's plans, or is this just a favor to Lav's friends on the west coast?? (And a school he has ties to)

He was on campus. From what I was told he's very raw, feet are that quick. I couldn't gather why he was here. Just guessing he's a very distant backup plan.
