Bourgault - 3 years according to Zags update.

Are those positions what you think they will be playing or what they naturally play? I was under the impression that Sanchez was a 4 and Bourgault was a 2.

Sanchez will more than likely man the 3/4 spots, while Bourgault will probably man the 2/3 spots.

I know its been said, but I wanted to confirm. Branch has 3.5 years of eligibility left correct? Where I am confused is since he played the fall semester, how that doesn't take up a year, but if it is 3.5 I will take it. This team is shaping up nicely. Hammer to rock

His freshman year is gone. He is a sophomore next year and only has 2.5 years. He will play around Dec 20th based on typical STJ fall semester ending then his entire Jr and Sr year.

This doesn't make too much sense. Why does he lose a year of eligibility? If he played out the year with Texas A&M and then transferred he would still have 3 years left after sitting out a year. Does he get penalized for leaving in the middle of the season?

mj, I truly love your posts.
But the minute Sanchez committed, he became a center.
Doesn't matter where you put Bourgault position wise.
He and Balamou will most likely be 9th and 10th in the rotation.
Nice to finally have some depth.

On our current roster of 10, he and Balamou are likely 9th and 10th in the rotation

I agree. Unless we get CO or Chandler, I see Sanchez and Sampson at the 4/5 positions, w Gift off the bench.

Appreciate it, Tom. So, Sanchez will man the center spot, huh? There will be some instances where he'll probably play or log minutes at the position, but he will not solely man the center spot.

Totally agree.
He'll split the center spot with gift.
Sampson appears to be a 38 minute guy at the PF position.

I was jeaulous when Moose was able to beat me in answering this question for the 54th time so thanks for letting me do it again.

College eligibility is measured in seasons, not portions thereof. You have 5 years to play four seasons. Guys who transfer over the summer don't play any partial seasons so they get 4 full seasons of play but if you transfer between the first and second semester that is not the case. Like Moose said last year was his freshman year, next year is his sophomore year. He played and will play enough in those two years for them to count as full seasons and then will have truly full seasons as a Jr and Sr. FWIW if he wanted 3 full years of eligibility he is welcome to sit out the entire year next year and come back to the court in October of 2013 but I don't recall anyone ever doing that without an injury.

Re MJ/TIS's dicussion at this point with confirmed commitments Sanchez is a C as much if not more than Moe/Gift were last year, in reality if there were no additions it really means that it would be the second season in a row with no center. FWIW you can review a number of rosters around the country and many of them also don't have any centers. Hopefully over the next few weeks there is a better option as far as a true C.

What do we think in terms of ships? Do we give out 1 2 or 3 more to this class?

Would be nice to get at least one more big and 1 more shooter but I'd probably keep at least 1 in the bank for next year.

Just bigs from here on in. Need 1 but take 2 if they're quality.

Don't worry about next year.

You always lose some players via transfer, NBA, or other reasons. ,If space is needed, space is manufactured.

That doesn't mean that you should give up space unnecessarily, but when special recruits want in, you grab them and worry about tomorrow tomorrow

Do you think, if the season started today, this would be our starting five....

PG - Jamal Branch
SG - D'Angelo Harrisson
SF - Sir Dom Pointer
PF - Jakarr Sampson
C - Orlando Sanchez

Well if the season started today Branch wouldn't be allowed to start yet due to transfer rules :)

I think Amir would start at the 3

Yeah. Or Garrett instead of Pointer.

  Garrett or Pointer--- close call.

I'd take 1 big and 1 shooter. Team needs shooters just as bad as bigs. Chandler and Harvard transfer works for me.

That's what I was trying to decide. Forgot about Branch's transfer :) . I think if you are looking for play making on the offensive end you start Garret. I put Pointer because even with Sanchez we need size and Pointer is big for a small forward and plays great on D. Also a little off topic but just imagine if we still had Harkless.....

When was the last time we had a true, quality Center?
