19-20 Transfers

Florida’s Andrew Nembhard will withdraw from the NBA Draft and intends to transfer, source told @Stadium. The 6-foot-5 sophomore point guard averaged 11.2 points and 5.6 assists per game this past season and should be a pursued heavily by other high-major schools.

This is baffling. The young man is the starting PG on a good team. Has posted good stats during his two years at Florida and wants to transfer. Something is very wrong with this picture.

Will be interesting to see where he lands.

Read where it said he is a slow methodical half court player who doesn't fit well with coach Mike White's up tempo style with the likes of Scottie Lewis. Said last season with big Kevin Blackshire half court worked to an extent but left team disjointed. May be why they underachieved last season so actually does make sense he would transfer.

The larger point is SJU isn't the only victim. There will be transfers into the summer, including significant ones. Leaving schools scrambling late.

And SJU may even benefit from it even though a school may simultaneously be hurt by it. Meaning an LJ situation only in reverse.

What is the difference between this transfer and that of McClung or LJ ? All three players performed very well at their respective programs, all 3 players played well enough that they hoped they would be drafted and were given plenty of pt and free reign by their coaches. On paper none of these kids had any reason to transfer.
Just the sad state of college bball today.

I’m just hoping we benefit somehow. We are due. Hopefully an interested transfer pops up. Most in need of a shooter/scorer or a big.

Excellent point. Let's hope that's the case.

Maybe so, but it doesn't lessen the blow I felt when I heard LJ wouldn't be returning.

Delaware transfer Justyn Mutts was second in scoring (12.2 points per game) for UD and first in rebounding (8.4) for the 22-11 Blue Hens last season, his first after transferring from High Point (N.C.).

His last season featured a 30-point/13-rebound effort in a rare UD win at eventual CAA champ Hofstra. Mutts’ 11 double-doubles ranked third in the CAA. He would be immediately eligible to play this 2020- 2021 season. Mutts would have 2 seasons of eligibility remaining.

Leave it to the NCAA. They attempt to correct an overly restrictive transfer policy and end up with jammed transfer portals, grad transfers and now players who test the NBA waters without G league ability who end up transferring because their current coaching staff doesn't have the ability to raise their game to NBA level.
If they follow thru and allow all players one transfer with immediate eligibility rosters will change seventy five per cent each year and the game of college basketball will become even less popular than it is now.

JPM 114 takes on Mutts;

He is a great kid from a really good program at St. Augustine and yes he's a tweener but in this case tweener means really good college player

I would love him..as far as locker room fit and finishing ability inside and rebounding.

Sounds perfect in every respect other than no mention of his ability to shoot the three which would be very nice to have. Locker room fit, finishing inside which has been a long time weakness and rebounding. If we can get this kid for 2 years people will quickly forget LJ.

Definitely not a three point guy, but seems to have potential of freeing up guys like Marcellus & Julian to play perimeter occasionally. It may be beneficial to also add a little strength to interior play with Josh rehabbing & Toro’s injury history imo.

Just a question but would adding Mutts create even more class imbalance in the roster? It adds another Junior and takes away a spot from 2021. Do you guys see this as a problem?

I'm lukewarm on bringing in another kid who'll add to an already junior heavy class, but will trust staff if they see value that outweighs that obvious negative.
