19-20 Transfers
As you know, BYU just got the 7 footer from Purdue.
Also in the hunt for Anthony Nelson from Seton hall

Can an injured recuperating player be moved to an academic scholarship? Are there accommodations being considered for COVID19 consequences?

I think Johnathan is being under-rated by fans because of his low ranking our of HS (435 from 247Sports, although rated a ***), his small size, and the seeming plethora of guards on the roster--although not PGs.
But odds are, LJ returns, Mr. Perez moves to greener PT options, and we see if John McGriff can get PT at PG and contribute.
We shall see.

Would love to get a view on McGriff from someone who has actually seen him play or practice with the team.
I agree with Chicago that Perez likely goes to a school where he is guaranteed a lot of playing time. No clue on what LJ will decide to do - wish him the best either way.

A couple posters have asked if anyone has seen J. McGriff play / practice with the team? That would be great feedback.Kind of think McGriff is the type of hard-nosed kid who might thrive if given a chance. Wish him the best either way, but the lack of true PG depth may be an opportunity for some PT for him.
Regarding LJ, just think he comes back because of the cloudy outlook for pro sports anywhere / everywhere, but particularly in Europe, where'd he'd likely end up. Certainly wish him the best either way. Exciting player to root for the past 2 years.

You know who has seen him play? CMA and his staff have seen him play! The only opinions that matter. Nuff said.

They aren't leakers, though, so that doesn't help us at all.
From my perspective it makes no sense to speculate on either McGriff leaving or whether or not he is good enough to warrant playing time. He was recruited here by Coach Mike Anderson and his staff and that is good enough for me.
If McGriff chooses to leave it won't be because of what anyone on this board thinks or posts. I am sure it will be an informed decision made in consultation with the statf that recruited him. IOW the present situation might be good enough for you (royal you, not meaning to highlight you personally) but that is moot. What matters is if it is good enough for him and good enough for the staff.

My opinion is kids get recruited over all the time. Rosters today change more than diapers. I trust the staff to get the best product possible on the floor and do it with class.

I do want to add that if McGriff staying means no Perez but yes on Riley coming because there's one less guy taking minutes at a position he plays, I'd start silkscreening "Welcome Back, McGriff" T-shirts right now.

McGriff is an undersized 3-star recruit but he is a true PG which has value for us.

Before this past season I wasn't expecting much from Champagnie. I also never expected anything substantial from Earlington. I don't think any of us want to give up either of those guys right now. Both were ranked lower than McGriff by virtue of being unranked. If McGriff goes...so be it. I'm looking forward to seeing what Anderson does with him though. Coach has earned my patience and trust when it comes to development in his short time here.

* is are there deadlines for LJ to decide to play in Europe ?

* I assume that there is no deadline for LJ to leave for Europe but whether he enrolls at StJ's for the Fall semester becomes the best indication.

* Does anyone even know whether the European pro basketball leagues are going to play this cycle ?

Hey Gabelmc .... how many games have you seen McGriff play in to support your opinion ?
I haven’t seen any games (since when was that a requirement to spout an opinion on a message board?) but I’ve seen highlights and I can’t wait for him to suit up for SJU.

I just don't see LJ returning. Period. They will be playing in Europe before the United States. His game in college is not going to change much and he is not NBA material. St. John's will be playing in an empty Carnesecca arena. We will have players who want to play college ball and not those auditioning for the NBA in a Covid season.

Over under 14.5 rebounds against us this year.

Well at least we have our own guy in Toro who can also fight for boards. Earlington, Champs, Moore etc and we should be able to hold our own inside.

Wake Forest freshman forward Ismael Massoud plans to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, a source tells @247Sports. Averaged 4.8 PPG and 2.0 RPG this past season.
