The Brady Show

Yup. Luis should take note. Brady had an open dunk and he made the easy play and dunked it w 2 hands. Luis got that play and tried to throw down a one hander and missed.
Luis’s one handed attempt to bring down the house with an emphatic dunk was the problem, not that he didn’t use two hands which usually isn’t done on fast breaks. A one handed dunk without cocking it back and throwing it down would have probably sufficed.

The first basket in the first half was one a one handed dunk by Joel off a post pass from Jenkins. If he had used two hands Dixon is closer to the ball and has a chance to contest it.

Difference was Luis and Dunlap were ahead of the field, Soriano’s was not. Dunlap made sure as Luis could have done. In fairness, we live in a “showtime world” so as much as it pains me to recognize, it happens.

Forget about Luis blown one, look at everyone getting on Sports Center atop 10 when one guy has an uncontested fast break layup and instead throws the ball high of the backboard for a teammate who dunks it. I am waiting for a drastic fail on one of these so it makes the “Not So Top Ten” instead and helps lead to a loss. Quite frankly I haven’t see any that really are top ten material lately IMHO.

Luis missed it really bad too. He wasn’t even close.

The fact that Brady has highly impacted two BE wins already is unusual for most true freshmen playing in tough league, as well in a transfer mania era when teams are stacked w fifth year players in their twenties.

I don’t expect him to replicate his recent outings every game going forward, but in a way he is playing w house money and imo will be a solid piece of the puzzle this season.

Maybe not score 15 points a night, but I fully expect him to be a contributor moving forward and knock down shots when hes open.

Im starting him at the 3 until Luis is 100% healed.

If nothing else opposing coaches have to game plan for him possibly freeing up other individuals.

Brady had two great games last week and I'm excited about his Doug McDermott-lite future at St. Johns...but I wouldn't get carried away with the "finally we've found our outside shooting threat!" takes just yet.

Going forward I think you're going to see Joel and Jenkins as the only two 30+ minute guys and an ever-changing cast of supporting guys game by game depending on opponent and game circumstances. Brady's time is going to fluctuate, as will Taylor's, Dingle's, even Ledlum's. Plus the ever present Luis shin situation. There are going to be games where he plays 6-8 minutes.

Ultimately I'm exactly where Brady said he was: thought this year would be a lost/developmental year, happily surprised the timeline has been accelerated.

It's hard to compare. Dunlap brings the ability hit the 3, which this team sorely needs. This team is ranked #180 in 3pts made, #139 in 3pt%. I thought this team would be stronger shooting 3's.
We’d be #60 if Jenkins had 0 attempts 😉

Spot on. Not sure why coach RP hasn't limited his 3 pt shots yet. Maybe coach is giving Jenkins a longer leash because Jenkins shot 36% last year. That's looking like an anomaly.
Or not, in which case Jenkins is due to hit a few; again, Pitino knows him better than any of us and his is the only opinion that counts.

He could shoot 35% if he took better shots. I don’t see much if any difference with him compared to Taylor besides the fact that Taylor hasn’t taken a bad shot all season.

Taylor is the consummate teammate and that’s why he’s shooting 43.8% from deep right now (although I expect that to fall somewhat).

If everyone on the team had Taylor’s shot selection we would have about 25 shot clock violations per game as he hardly ever looks to shoot. Sometimes the opposing team plays good defense on a given possession and someone has to pull the trigger (I know I know you wish Jenkins was unarmed😉).

I don’t think we have to worry about shot clock violations with Ledlum, Luis, and Jenkins.

During a recent timeout Pitino exorted his team not to always take the first open shot with plenty of time on the shot clock but to work to find a better shot. Taylor's shot selection results in higher % looks.

Someone mentioned Oscar Robertson on here recently, and I remember what an opponent ince said about him that made him so tough to guard:

"If you give him a 20 foot shot, he wanted to shoot from 15.. If you gave him 15, he wants 10. If you give him a 10 foot shot he wants 5, and if you give him 5 he wants a layup."

Some old school coaches hate the 3 point shot, which was an ABA innovation (along with the red white and blue basketball), basketball's version of a home run. They think it ruined basketball by destroying the mindset that offenses are rewarded for working for the easiest highest % shot. The 3 point shot rewards the opposite, and often players step backwards over the line with plenty of open space between them and the basket.

Getting the best looks possible during a possession is the kind of discipline that Pitino preaches. His disdain for forced shots, bad decisions on offense is evident on his face and he lets guys hear it when they return to the bench. His demand for perfection, though unattainabls, makes his teams strive for greatness.
