@West Virginia, Fri., Dec. 1, 7p, ESPN-2

That's Al Lobalbo all the way. Bobby Knight actually clipped that from Al.
It’s a tight circle. After I posted this I looked up Chiesa. He actually was an Assistant to Pitino at Providence. They were all ”sharing” concepts. 😂

Is it “chronic”? I know my daughter dealt with them her sophomore year in high school (soccer and basketball) but she hasn’t had the problem since.

Latest Twitter Comments From Zach:

What's up everyone. Solid win last night, even if it was ugly. Some thoughts:

- Appreciate Joel Soriano. The Big man is having a monster season. He's scoring more with less shots. He's defending well. He's doing everything Rick Pitino has asked of him. He's surpassed my expectations of him so far. Most importantly, Soriano has played his best when his best has been needed. You saw it against North Texas, Utah and West Virginia. He's this team's rock. He got the better of West Virginia star Jesse Edwards yesterday.

The absence of RJ Luis Jr. is going to hurt. He's exactly what this team is missing, a shot creator on the wing and a strong rebounder. He's missing so much time. Pitino suggested Jan. 2 against Butler as a realistic return date. I think we see more three-guard lineups with Luis out. I liked the look of Nahiem Alleyne, Daniss Jenkins and Jordan Dingle. Hope we see more of it.
- I think two things can be true of last night: St. John's did a bad job of adjusting to the officials and the game was called poorly. Way too many whistles. But St. John's kept West Virginia in the game by fouling too much. Defense remains an issue.

- Found Pitino's positive tone after the win interesting. Expected him to be more negative. Obviously, I'm still learning him. He zigs when you expect him to zag. Clearly, he was happy to win a true road game and felt his team overcame adversity from foul trouble. Still, thought this was not a good performance.
- Alleyne should be playing more, especially with Luis out. I get that Pitino wants him to be more than just a scorer on the offensive end, but he makes an impact. He had four rebounds yesterday, which was important. I'd like to see him play 25 minutes or more.

- Lastly, the NET rankings come out on Monday. I expect St. John's to be in the 60's. Currently, they have a Ken Pom of 60. Not great, but could be worse. What is very good, though, is their non-conference strength of schedule of 82. That number was in the 300s the last few years. Major improvement that matters.

He doesn’t just force things sometimes. He forces everything and he makes everyone on the court play wild like him.

Nobody can get anything going with him playing this way. He’s a cancer right now and he can’t defend his position. He’s a SG on both sides of the ball and I think Pitino realized that tonight. He sat him for Cruz more than once when Wilcher needed a rest.

I’m actually okay with Alleyne playing the Phil Greene role over watching Jenkins play 100 mph and ignore his teammates. He doesn’t turn the ball over at all on his career and he lets other guys touch the ball.
The thing about Jenkins is that as a point guard he doesn’t make the guys around him better, his play is actually hindering their ability to integrate themselves into the offense. Look, Jenkins plays hard and with a ton of energy, but he has to understand what his responsibilities are as the PG. I’m not saying he can’t look to score at times , he can, but he has to get these other into the flow of the offense.

Country Roads Take St. John's to a win. It wasn't pretty but St. John's found a way to beat the refs, beat the zone, and beat West Virginia on the road. Rick Pitino has always evaluated how good his teams are by how they perform on the road, St. John's improves to 5-2 on the season with a hard fought win. Ultimately good teams find a way to win, no matter the adversity and behind Joel Soriano's career high 24, Chris Ledlum's double double and Nahiem Alleyne's clutch performance, St. John's wins a game they have lost plenty of times before. Here's our recap of the big win

That would be me. I had to Google the final score. Did anyone else find one of the broadcasters annoying (I forget his name)? He announced the game like it was the Final Four. His voice bordered on yelling and sounded like he was going to jump out of his seat whenever WV made a good play.
Almost as annoying as the continuous rant about the ineligible wvu player and how the ncaa sucks (I agree) but that went on for far too long and they ignored the run of play. Make your point and move on.

Thanks. I know they really messed up my daughter’s sophomore year of soccer in high school her first year of playing varsity. Bothered and affected her ability to plan e from August through the November and the program she was in had great trainers, facilities and we used physical therapy but was still tough. Thank God she hasn’t had any problems with that since.

Here‘s hopping for a full and speedy recovery for RJ.

Plus , like Soriano , Slaz missed more than a few free throws down the stretch . They both played a lot of minutes .
And Soriano looked like he lost a Tooth? But , it didn’t seem to be bleeding ., Handed it to the Trainer . Put under his pillow . Wake up to a Quarter .

I doubt RP took delight in seeing Slaz leave . He was one of his Iona kids and clearly , as last night showed has game . Pitino had to know he was lacking depth in the Front Court which asks the question , why would he show Slaz the door ?
Because he never opened it for him . I couldn’t help but , notice how big Slaz is at 6’9” . Let’s hope Dunlap can put on that kind of muscle by next season . It would help .
A lost tooth I hear goes much more than that now a days.

During the game last night the announcer said CRP, one of the greatest basketball minds of the last 4 decades, told him Jenkins is a future pro, and even if it is in Europe, it is major compliment

And yet the guy gets slammed here every game thread. SMFH.

Don’t listen to the noise DJ. Glad to have you here!!!
Everyone on the roster is a future pro.

First the guy supported the lack of waivers and then argued (for a long time) that Battle should get a waiver. It was a long argument - with himself!

Last night Dunlap looked like he wanted to get rid of the ball as soon as he got it, and Edjifore can't put the damn ball in the basket even when he's right on top of it. Dunlap's a frosh and good reason to think he'll develop and become the long range shooter we need but Edjifore...I don't know.
I think he was looking to get rid of ball quickly because of the plays that were called. As Alleyne said in the postgame interview, they are looking to play with pace, move the ball quickly to get a good shot. I noticed he last three was shot flat with no arc, and thatks not him. Pitino mentioned it during the postgame conference. I noticed when Dunlap with back to the bench, Pitino spoke to him as he got to the bench and motioned with his arm as if releasing a shot. I really look forward to his, Zuby’s and Wilcher’s development.

The longer RJ Luis is out the more pressing the development of Wilcher and Brady becomes.

Perhaps Wilcher, can be a factor in BE wars this season playing a couple of positions and getting better hopefully on D. I just don’t see Brady in same light, yeah shoots well, but can’t stay in front of guards, wings on D at this point. Give him time, BE is a huge leap for most freshmen

A point guard is a quarterback of the team.
He sees to it and sets up plays for the team to play as one unit.

It looks to mel like Jenkins is one dimensional.
CRP wont stand for that unless you are sensational.

Well said. What bothers me is they defer to him like he’s Omar Cook or Erick Barkley instead of a two guard playing out of position. There is no scenario where he should doing 95% of the ball-handling. He didn’t even do that in the MAAC last year.

He makes everyone uncomfortable. Half of our players are looking to pass it before the ball even touches their hands because he’s dominated so much of the dribbling and facilitating.

Almost every set is dictated by him instead of passing the ball around, moving, and letting things unfold organically. That kills shooters like Dunlap, Alleyne, and Dingle who need that extra pass and inside-out looks.

Jenkins is averaging 4.7 treys a game and is only shooting 27.3% this year and 30.8% for his career. Something is wrong there. He took his first three off the bounce early in the set just 46 seconds into the game last night. How does he feel so comfortable doing that?

After getting two free throw attempts yesterday, he’s upped his average to 1.3 free throw attempts per game. Can anyone explain that? Have you ever seen a guard draw less contact and get to the line less frequently? Dwight Hardy was a combo guard who could actually shoot and he even he averaged 5.5 FT attempts per game splitting the facilitating with Boothe, Brownlee, and Kennedy. Jenkins only averaged 3.3 FT attempts at Iona last year in 34 mpg!

Glen Taylor averaged 4.9 attempts in the PAC-12 in 30 mpg from the wing. Dingle averaged 6.0 in the Ivy. What are we doing here?

Get the kid off the ball. Let Dingle, Alleyne, Taylor, and eventually Luis play a PG by committee with him.
