Daniss Jenkins assist to turnover ratio was 5:1 last night why is he being spoken about like heā€™s unplayable lol

He was basically invisible in the second half aside from some nice passes he made. Not sure where you guys were seeing a guy playing totally out of control. He had maybe 1 or 2 wild plays in the first half and then calmed down a ton. Moved the ball well. Hit a nice midrange at a key moment.

No heā€™s not a poor manā€™s Ja Morant by any stretch LOL but not as down on him as some right now

We need a scrappy guard itā€™s just the way it is. A pitino team is gonna have a scrappy guard in the backcourt. And Iā€™m sorry but Jordan dingle has not shown the scrappy trait. Heā€™s more of a smooth scorer type. Which we also need. But weā€™re gonna need Jenkins go get in there and scrap sometimes too.
2-3 of his assists were just swinging the ball to Dingle and Ledlum for jumpers ā€” something he barely ever does unless the opposition is in a zone.

He had two very nice passes to Soriano early. Heā€™s going to make some playsā€¦as much as he dominates the ball heā€™s going to get assists and points. Thatā€™s a given.

Iā€™m obviously his biggest critic and what I canā€™t stand his how he negatively impacts his teammates.

How many times does he speed down the court and not give the ball up until he drives? Isnā€™t painfully obvious to everyone by now that we need to be getting Taylor, Alleyne, Soriano, and Ledlum touches every possession they are in the game?

Thereā€™s a place for a kid like him who can get his shot off at will. But itā€™s not the dribble-dominant, high volume shooting role weā€™ve seen.

He has absolutely no conscience while Dingle is Jimmy Cricket.

My thoughts on the game.
Every game has to have a whipping boy. Today it was Jenkins and Brady.

Taylor seems to be the guy who guards the opponents scorer. He has an awkward shot and a not so good handle, but he plays VERY Hard.

The fact that WVA was tired is a fallacy. With all the fouls called everyone got plenty of rest.

Being in the bonus both halves, Pitino should have called off the full court pressā€¦.but he never called me.

"Red Neck" is certainly a more derogatory term than "white boy".

It was a comedic line from the movie "The Blind Side".

Why play the white boy at all in a game like this? I know freshman, experience et all and maybe he'll become more Mullin than Lyson someday, but he should be getting his feet wet only in 46 point alumni blowouts and hopefully against Sacred Heart and the like. If you absolutely must play a white kid...then go with the other one. While neither appear Big East ready skillwise, at least Conway has a body that doesn't seem so overmatched.
It was the context and stated in a defamatory way, not in a complimentary way aimed at a white schoolyard legend, as in "that deaf, dumb, blind kid, sure plays a mean pin ball".

You also questioned "if you have to play a white boy" which has historical truths of sports teams like the Celtics being very hesitant to field a team without white guys on the court, or NFL teams "having to play" white men at quarterback, or nba teams having unwritten rules of have at least one white player.

I'm overly sensitive, but in 2023 I don't even think about the color of our players, and certainly not in terms of how playing time is doled out.

I don't think you meant it that way, but it reads like that, at least to me. If you did mean it like that I can say that sort of explicit statement without basis has no place at St. Johns.

That's all and it's not a shot at you, just about the post, which as reads to me is indefensible.

The power dynamic does need shifting out there I 100% agree.

Daniss thinks heā€™s the #1 option and heā€™s simply not.

I wonder how much of that comes from being Pitinos guy at Ionaā€¦ but I know Rick wants to win more than anything so he should see that daniss is better as a 3rd/4th option and make the proper adjustments.

I still think Daniss brings a little more to the table than youā€™re giving him credit. While I agree his usage needs to go down, think heā€™s still an important piece

In the press conference after the game, Pitino called Jenkins one of our best defenders. Not sure I agree. Alleyne was the other one he mentioned (I agree with that one).

Jenkins might be trying to do too much and will get better once he really understands his role and the abilities of his teammates.
I like Daniss Jenkins. The kid has moxie. Our backcourt just had a mediocre game.
This would have been a 15 point win if not for that because WV stinks.

What you call moxie, I call a lack of awareness of his weaknesses and his role.

Written by a member of the WVa cheer squad?

did they watch the same game we did? wv got lucky we didnt beat them by more to be honest. and the totals and numbers mean alot. so if you did all those positive things and still came out with a loss what does that tell you?

Did you really just parce through his 5 assists individually to determine a quality level and relative value of each assist? I've never seen that done ever and it might just represent a new low of some sort. I can hardly wait for your next post in which his 2 and 3 point field goals are somehow downgraded to a lesser point value based on using the backboard, proximity to the goal, not being a swish or some other arbitrary, spiteful nonsense you come up with.

He's a combo guard. That's his role. He's playing in a higher level in the Big East conference and until Dingle becomes a more liable option and Alleyne learns the system better, we need his moxie. Everyone else but Soriano is playing catch up right now.
