I understand that many of us are so desperate for every win that we only want our battle tested players on the court. Thus the concern some have when Brady got minutes yesterday. But CRP sees beyond what we see. He is building a program, which includes trying to give important minutes to his still learning 4 star freshmen despite knowing they will make mistakes, especially on the road. He wants to show he has confidence in them, and give them the opportunity to improve and be ready for the Big East wars. CRP believes that Brady is or will become an elite 3 point threat, and wants him to get more than end of the bench minutes. At least in games he feels are under control. Not saying that coach is infallible, but for sure saying that coach knows better than us.

Logen astutely noted last night Johnnies were not playing smart too often, keeping WV in game. Still early in season, but must say some of the sloppy plays were made by veteran guys, which surprised me. Rick went aggressively in portal to add experience, hopefully this was an anomaly,

Regarding Dunlap’s development, as long as he doesn’t hurt us too much, if the score differential is basically the same with him in the game, he’s helping the team by allowing bigger contributors to rest.
I didn’t have a problem with him playing. We wanted to wear down WV with depth and Pitino also wants to get him meaningful minutes against good teams.

Plus you have to keep highly ranked recruits happy. That’s just the reality in today’s game no matter how patient players say they will be. We don’t have the personnel to get him looks this year.

My apologies. Though I'm Caucasian, I was raised in a black community where "white boy" was practically a term of endearment.
I frequently was referred to as “that white boy” on playgrounds, I always took it as a term of respect and acceptance. FWIW, that’s how I took your post.

Jenkins is quick, athletic, fearless, confident, creates his own shot, a team leader, our best defender ( Pitino's words, not mine ) and had an amazing 5 to 1 assist/to ratio yesterday. Obviously, the team is going as far as Soriano takes us. But after that, it's going as far as Jenkins takes us. Phil Greene isn't walking through that door and Jenkins' role isn't diminishing going forward. You can either get on board with a key cog in our wheel...or you can bad mouth and complain about him all season long...your call.

I truly don’t understand half of what Pitino publicly says he sees in Jenkins. Pitino has forgot more than a quarter of what I’ll ever know about basketball, but I don’t get it.

There is zero chance Jenkins has the same role at the end of the season that he’s had the first 7 games.

The only question is how much damage does this team have to endure before he assumes his proper role on this team. How much is Pitino willing to allow the chemistry between the rest of the players to suffer before he makes a drastic change?

We don't have a true point guard on this team, which we're not used to. Going back to Looie's days, the Johnnies were always built with a good point guard. We don't have one, so we have to mix and match a little.

Jenkins can get to the rim when we need offense - very few others on this team can. (I thought Dingle would give us more of that, but so far he hasn't.) Personally, I think we need him on the floor. He's starting to distribute more, although he still plays hero ball too much for my liking.

As I said, Dingle is the guy I'm worried about. Sometimes you barely know he's on the floor. We need a lot more from him, or Alleyne needs some of his minutes. And I'm glad Wilcher got some extended minutes in prime time. Let him get his feet wet. He's not Erick Barkley, who was an elite PG as soon as he put on the uniform. Wilcher will need some time to come into his own.

Ledlum impressed me last night. Showed some quickness and plenty of hops. He's probably better than I thought. Happy to be wrong about that.

Taylor needs to be a little more selfish on offense. He needs to look for his shot.

But take the road win against a Power 5 team.
Good to hear a mention of Erick Barkley in the context of Wilcher’s development. I think Erick was one of the best pure point guards St. John’s has ever had. I would have Wilcher watch some video of Barkley… Not to copy his style, but to appreciate the probing deliberateness he played with. Wilcher has elite athleticism and great handling skills. He needs to be on the court as much as possible to accelerate his maturity. With that maturity, the game will slow down for him. I look forward to seeing him at St. John’s for four years. He’ll be a good one.

Daniss Jenkins assist to turnover ratio was 5:1 last night why is he being spoken about like he’s unplayable lol

He was basically invisible in the second half aside from some nice passes he made. Not sure where you guys were seeing a guy playing totally out of control. He had maybe 1 or 2 wild plays in the first half and then calmed down a ton. Moved the ball well. Hit a nice midrange at a key moment.

No he’s not a poor man’s Ja Morant by any stretch LOL but not as down on him as some right now

We need a scrappy guard it’s just the way it is. A pitino team is gonna have a scrappy guard in the backcourt. And I’m sorry but Jordan dingle has not shown the scrappy trait. He’s more of a smooth scorer type. Which we also need. But we’re gonna need Jenkins go get in there and scrap sometimes too

I don't think anyone is saying he's unplayable. I think many are questioning his role as a point guard instead of as a shooting guard/combo guard, and I personally question why Pitino is a lot less critical of him compared to others in public.

Assist to turnover ratio is just one stat, but doesn't tell the whole story. The other stats that jump out to me are:
-- His 8 field goal attempts in 21 minutes. For me, that's way too much, and the efficiency is pretty terrible.
-- His plus/minus was -1 according to sports-reference. In the context of this game, that makes a lot of sense to me. Sorianio (21), Alleyne (11), Ledlum (8), Taylor (5) were the only ones with positive +/-. They were also the only ones I'd say that had an actual good game.
-- He fouled out! That's bad!

Turnovers isn't what killed us yesterday. It was missing shots (some of which were quality shots that just didn't go in), bad shots, boneheaded defense, and fouls. He contributed to all of those things.
