2023-24 Roster

Once again, I think all of us wanted Posh to return, Storr as well. It isn’t an either/or type thing. We also offered him to come back but he didn’t want to. Time to move on. Maybe in the end he does come back. We will see.

I think Clayton Jr is a big upgrade regardless of who left. I think Jenkins is very solid and can be a big contributor off the bench most likely, getting solid minutes as he can score very well and do a lot of things.
I won't argue this anymore. Last thing, No doubt I want both back, but they're young men making a choice.
If they want to move on and play at some other school, then I'll say God bless them and I hope they shine, but not against us.

I am not a “blind faith” guy, but let’s face it, the program has floundered more often than not. The opportunity to get a HOF coach with some tread left on tire was something SJ had to do. We either have faith in him or not. Yeah, I wish Posh & Storr returned, but I will believe in Pitino. I believe it is our only chance to get program on a positive track for success, so I’m not sweating the loss of these kids.

Hahaha. Posh was bricking 3 off the backboard. Big east, maac or my back yard, it doesnt matter. He cant shoot. Good luck to him but we dont carry players like that anymore.
Respectfully disagree. Each dropoff in competition level gives you more time to get a shot off and smaller, less athletic defenders. It also gives you more wide open looks. Being a great shooter in d2 or d3 or at a mid major does not insure similar success at this level. Reverse is true also.

Being more selective also makes a big difference in shooting %.

Good point. Look at Stef Smith for recent example. But a counterpoint could also be that those players were also getting the opponents best defender and were the main topic of discussions for opposing coaches game plans.

This isn’t any Iona backcourt. They were recruited by Pitino. He knows what is required to win in the BE if he wants them I have a lot more confidence that he is right than I do that Larry is right (no pun intended-or was there) 🤣
Iona’s center and forwards were also recruited by Pitino.

Stef Smith was an enigma to me. Looked plenty athletic enough to get his shot off. He missed a lot of open looks. He also didn’t get consistent playing time. I know the knock on him was he didn’t play good D but I thought his defense improved as the year progressed. He could be pesky at times. My recollection is he had some good games and when he did, we generally played well.

I am sure this is going to work out simply because if it doesn’t nothing will.
Pitino is best best college coach I have seen. But this is that old immovable object vs unstoppable force thing. HOF coach vs Wasteland program.
I may disagree with some of these personal moves but there is no other coach I would want.
I don’t however think Rick could come here with a mid major roster and have the success some here will expect right off the bat. He will need a competitive roster obviously and some of the names…,,

Also look how Mike Anderson used his players. There was never set roles, set minutes or clearly defined expectations. Their performances would be viewed differently possible if they had been given consistent teaching and game usage.
Not saying it was all anderson’s fault but his rotations were always a head scratcher. Always felt from game to game it was let’s see what works tonight.

I am sure it is going to work out because RP is a fantastic tactician, has surrounded himself with excellent people and this staff is really working morning , day and night. I know that has been said before but seeing is believing and I am certainly believing. Patience is a virtue which this board lacks but hopefully we start to hear good news soon.
It started yesterday for the women with Amber Brown’s transfer from Pitt and hopefully today for the men.

with all this back and forth on players leaving, rick cleaning house. Here's the thing, when the weather is nice you open up the windows and air thigns out. If your house has been stinky, dirthy filthy, you not only open up the windows/doors, but you throw out almost everything that has a stink on it. Unfortunately the last years player either werent good, have off the court issues, or have the stink because they were around a bad environment. Rick is the probalby the best college coach if not all the time. His opinion ways more then anyone on this board or twitter. He is also not a miracly worker rome wasnt built in a day, so remember its only what week two? Already we had a coach on the islander half show, billboards everywhere and people who dont even know where St. Johns is now talking about us.

Going from posh to clayton jr is like going from a honda to a ferrari. Clayton jr is an nba draft pick when he leaves. Posh will be lucky to get minutes at Temple.

You guys are crazy not to realize how much of an upgrade this is.

According to that logic Then we made some of our opponents poor 3 point shooters into sharpshooters. There are ways through playmaking at any level to create open shots. How often did you see Dave DeBuschere wide open in the corner making shots, and he was not a super athlete. Same with Bill Bradley.

Board had four years of patience for our prior coaches but a few on here have very little patience for a proven HOF coach. I just don’t get it, maybe it’s that he’s at St. John’s that makes some people skeptical but that would be like having a string of women in your bed that were all less than attractive and then having someone like Scarlett Johansson in your bed and all of a sudden she’s not attractive because she’s in your bed. 🤪

So how do you explain FAU,Princeton, FDU, Furman, etc. ,all mid majors having such incredible success in the Tournament? These are not merely glitches, we keep seeing more mid majors succeeding at high levels. This is called parity!

The did not have to play BE schedule. Def not FDU and of the others do they even make the tournament if they were in the BE?

How many games did each win in NCAA?
Look at UCONN, Kenpom had them at #2 all year even though they lost 8 league games. Creighton the same.Mid majors always underrated because they get no PR from writers!

You need to win at least 10 conference games to have chance of getting bid.
Harder to do in a major conference.
Your telling me Iona def would have won 10 in BE last year?

This board is hysterical sometimes. everyone wants anderson gone and hes gone. Now we have a HOF coach who is possibly bringing in two of his former players and all the sudden thats a problem? His players went to an ncaa ours hasnt sniffed one in ages. Everyone just needs to relax. Consider getting pitino, keeping van macon, keeping soriano, keita, possibly gardner. Some just want an instant NCAA title. Hell if we make the NIT thats better then what we did this year.

I dont care what the roster looks like this year (I do, but you know what i mean). If a year ago, I told you Pitino could be the coach everyone would have signed up for it (regardless of the roster). Can we give Pitino a month after giving prior coaches 4 years at a minimum.

Doesnt matter, they are still good teams with quality Division 1 players that translate to High Div 1 which is the whole point you are disputing. They win against top programs!! So Clayton and Jenkins have just as good a chance to do the same, according to Pitino and other experts!
