Zuby “Beast II”

Every opportunity to start at 4, backup at 5. I didnt say anything about a promise of a set # of minutes but i bet he averages 24 +/- a couple.

Would bet the house he is in the starting lineup when the first ball drops.
Agree on the minutes, kind of regardless of what happens roster-wise.

But if we add Dillon Mitchell, I think Zuby will have to get the bulk of his minutes at center.

Cant afford to lose the house but beers on me if zuby begins the season as our starting 4 man.

We only signed Vince because the staff believes so much in Zuby.

If you plan to use Zuby as your 5 you need a plan for the Clingans of the country. That’s what Vince is there for. I like it. I don’t see the ceiling you guys do. I don’t see a kid stepping out and keeping forwards honest on a regular basis like Cliff O.

I know this is the portion of the year we become unrealistic, but put that on Maker not Vince. Maker is the gem.

I can only say how happy I am and how proud I am of this kid.

Failures in big moments are litmus tests to character. Do you crumble and fold, irrevocably changed by failure? Or do you courageously move forward, prepare, and use it as a growth experience and rebound.

Zuby, with a great support network at home along with the advice of a friend, chose the latter. He bested a possible lottery pick, and as if to prove a point, went 12-13 from the foul line vs. Georgia.

The Baylor loss may just prove to be very bad news for the Big East. Zuby is ready to serve notice. Very quickly, with very hard work (he spent the summer in Queens practicing) his star is rising quickly and brightly.

As John Wooden liked to say, "Sports doesn’t build character. It reveals it."

Congrats to Zuby!

My main concern with Zuby is the load he's being asked to carry. IMO he's playing too many minutes and not getting enough help.

I think Aaron Scott is finding so much foul trouble because with Zuby playing the 5 instead of the 4 (which I think he is) Scott is winding up at the 4 instead of the 3 and it isn't going well for him. He's competing hard against bigger bodies but he's picking up fouls while doing it and I wonder if that is also impacting his 3 point shooting.

Pitino seems to be experimenting with Zuby and Prey together and I hope that works out and they also get more minutes out of Vince so Zuby doesn't have to play as many minutes and also gets help down low.

Zuby’s Aunt posted this on our 114 buddy Tom’s St John’s facebook page. Pic was taken today. . So easy to root for Zuby. The rest of the kids too but Zuby is my favorite
I couldn't agree more. I was in the Bahamas chanting his name after the Baylor game. You could see the huge smile on his face when hearing the crowd as we helped lift his spirits. By all accounts a great kid and definitely an easy one for all of us to get behind and root for.

QUEENS, N.Y. (Dec. 9, 2024) –
For the second time in three weeks, junior Zuby Ejiofor was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, as announced by the conference on Monday.

The 6-foot-9 forward from Garland, Texas delivered a career performance, scoring 17 of his 28 points in the second half of the Johnnies’ 88-71 win over Kansas State on Saturday at Carnesecca Arena. Ejiofor produced a memorable effort in the team’s first game since the passing of legendary St. John’s Head Coach Lou Carnesecca, shooting 11-of-17 from the floor and going 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. The Red Storm’s big man also pulled down nine of his 13 rebounds on the offensive glass for his third double-double of the season.

Ejiofor is one of three Johnnies averaging double figures this season, 13.6 points per game while shooting 56.8 percent from the floor. He also ranks second in the BIG EAST and 15th in Division I with 2.3 blocks per game and leads the team with 7.4 rebounds per contest.
