Zags reporting MA Will Be Brought Back. Please boycott the games and donations

Here's the 2 main reasons(aside from past indiscretions) why I think that Pitino will not be hired:
1. Pitino will want to completely call his own shots
2. Pitino will always push the envelope/boundaries of what's permissible

I don't think that the SJU suits are comfortable with either of those 2 things.

People close to Pitino feel that he will go to a state school. Of course things could change but it appears he doesn’t really like the small private school operation like he thought he would. St. John’s and Georgetown would be a step up of course but still not the same as the SEC, Big 10, etc. We shall see.

If it's not going to be Pitino, I think it's got to be someone like Brandin Knight. He's ready for a head coaching job, and he'll recruit right out of the gate better than Langel.

Would he leave for Pitt the minute it opens up? Might be the next year. I know Ive said I’d love it if a coach was successful enough to use us as a stepping stone, but in this case I think it wouldn’t necessarily be because he was successful. He is intriguing on his recruiting rep alone.

He would take SJU the issue is SJU not Pitino.

I'm thinking Capel is suddenly safer than he's been in years there. Or at least that would be my hope.

yea usually guys aren't fired right after bringing their team to the NCAA tournament. (winks to the camera in reference to Mullin and Lavin)

P.S. - off topic but mods can I gently make the suggestion that we cut down on the amount of threads that are currently stickied? I have never seen so many sticky topics before its becoming hard to tell where the conversation is even happening

I don't think every school is as dysfunctional as St. John's.

I think Capel makes Cragg's shortlist if he's suddenly available though. So anyone opposed to that should hope Pitt wins a couple games in the tournament.

I totally agree with you. Was just laughing to myself cause it is probably pretty rare a coach gets fired after making the tournament. But somehow in SJU land, it happens with our last two coaches. Classic, Even though I am pretty sure Mullin "mutually parted ways"

Detective Dinkins when can we expect a full report on who it was? 😉😊👍🤣😂
I would think he was Anderson but he doesn’t post like MA speaks in the live look ins at the huddle. If that guy starts posting Vcxsher, rfghxxxz, Joel, Joel. Well then we know he is in fact Anderson

I know this is not a sexy hire by any means but I feel like anyone who can make Fordham a 20 win team before we are even halfway through February deserves a look
Fordham coaches have not worked out at other places ,e.g. Frashella, Lappas and Gonzalea

Good points Monte!

I have personally moved on from Rick P since someone very close to the pulse of things was quite emphatic with me that he would never be hired here. Imo, there is no sense arguing nor casting aspersions if that is set in stone.

Although this program certainly needs a splash hire with a history of jump starting things, it seems clear if Mike is out SJU will likely be looking at rising HCs. When you have been mediocre for so long, you can’t throw pie in the sky names out there, but realize you have to be prudent and try to minimize risk. Guys like Boynton, Langel and Robert Jones are examples of guys to me worth talking to despite any “warts” they have. I assume other names will arise since this job pays well and is in the BE. Lastly, I assume Mike Cragg will be part of search committee as he should be, but hope Shanley will have the most clout.
Any chance they're saying that cause they have to? like let's be honest any slight hint of the school being interested in Pitino is going to blow up everywhere and that's not right or fair to the current players and coaching staff no matter if you like MA or not. Knowing my sports luck this is major wishful thinking but just curious.

Possible of course, but don’t think so.

Most people think this but not really the case. Yes he would take SJU if that’s the only school that offered. But looks like he will try to use the school to land at a bigger one. Time will tell and things could change but this is coming from someone very close to Rick.

Georgetown is far more prestigious, much better facilities, far deeper pockets than SJU. Pitino's kids went to school there. If he wants a state school, that's a different matter.
