Yeah, sorry but it sucks being a SJU.I want St. John's to be in the NCAA tournament. I don't see a realistic path for that to happen but we can dream.
You are entitled to your opinion but his first public "scandal" occurred when he was 56. Yes, younger than 70 but it's not like he was some misguided teenager. As for me, I am agnostic; yes, he would do wonders but he is 70 and while 70 is the new 60, 50, 40 not sure how long he would be here and then what?Yeah, sorry but it sucks being a SJU.
Only a legend can fix this mess.
To those that say no "Rick is a bad dude." Don't act like you didn't do some f'ed up crap when you were younger, and have no regrets.
We all did, but all we can do is go on with our lives and try to become a better person.
There's no fixing the past, so can't dwell on it.
S* happens even with middle age men, omg omg omggggg the man probably had a few drinks and got horny, and he seen a hurt babe and the rest is history. The biggest issue is what he gave the hurt woman $$$ forS* happens even with middle age men, omg omg omggggg the man probably had a few drinks and got horny, and he seen a hurt babe and the rest is history. His wife forgave him, and should be a dead issies since it was years ago.
At 70?? He could still give us 6-7 years, and even if no championship, I could see him getting us to the F4, that's better then what we have had for the past 20+ years, no? Then as many said, after getting us back to the NCAA Tournament multiple times, it wouldn't be a crappy job that no one wants. What do I mean by crappy job? Just look at the last search. Many up and coming good young coaches would want to come to SJU.
Lastly, do you actually think that SJU not wanting Pitino would him? He could go to osu, or any top school get paid top $ and win a championship there. Who are the ones that would truly be hurt by Pitino not coming to SJU? The die hards. The ones that have gone through these \garbage 20+ years. When are we allowed to enjoy watching our beloved program again, I guess never because of a few selfish people running the show ST, John's University.
Ohhhhh I didn't even think about that, but still, that was her choice. The biggest issue is what he gave the hurt woman $$$ for
I've done some f'ed up crap in last 6 months, and I ain't all that much younger then Rick lolYeah, sorry but it sucks being a SJU.

I stay out of this one, frankly can see both sides. But what a freakin’ super bowl!I've done some f'ed up crap in last 6 months, and I ain't all that much younger then Rick lol
Sure was. That penalty call was questionable though.I stay out of this one, frankly can see both sides. But what a freakin’ super bowl!
We're not sure how long anyone will be here, as evidenced by our last 7 coaching hires. IMO how long he may or may not be here should not even factor in to the equation. Although I suspect this will be his last stop. You are entitled to your opinion but his first public "scandal" occurred when he was 56. Yes, younger than 70 but it's not like he was some misguided teenager. The point I was trying to make was he was not "young" as you put it, that's all. I assume you read my whole post where I said I was agnostic on the hire.S* happens even with middle age men, omg omg omggggg the man probably had a few drinks and got horny, and he seen a hurt babe and the rest is history. I have given my share of crap to Making Plays, and he has given me some good one back. But this is after all, college basketball. We cannot take ourselves this seriously over sports.
If someone is going to come here with a strict opinion about a coach/player — and this also goes to the “Anderson was the worst hire since day one crowd” — and never budge, expect a few daggers about those opinions.
I was happy when Anderson was hired. I was even fine with him coming back this year (and yes, I am only one alum/fan who has made donations to the university that will hardly cause a ripple).
But I also firmly believe this is a make or break year for Anderson. Even by Mullin’s low bar he set, the team made it to a tournament play-in game in his fourth year.
Anderson must have felt that too, because he brought in two high profile junior transfers that may not have fit. To Jones’ credit, he has tried to make his game fit while more importantly being a good teammate and representative of the university.
Curbelo, on the hand, well we do not have to say much. His actions are the opposite of Jones.
The only way I could endorse another year of Anderson is by making the NCAA tournament (again, the Board obviously does not care about my opinion).
And that will only happen by winning the BE tournament at this point.
My heart will be fully behind every game and hope for a miracle run (hey we can have these little dreams about sports), but my head says how in the world is this team suddenly going to put together a string of four consecutive wins?
I agree and think number one is a bigger reason than anything else that has been discussed about him. Here's the 2 main reasons(aside from past indiscretions) why I think that Pitino will not be hired:
1. Pitino will want to completely call his own shots
2. Pitino will always push the envelope/boundaries of what's permissible
I don't think that the SJU suits are comfortable with either of those 2 things.

Thinking Boynton is becoming less and less of an option as Oklahoma State moves more firmly into the tourney picture and because like some have said, even though he grew up in NYC he hasn't played/coached/live here in about 25 years.Good points Monte!
I have personally moved on from Rick P since someone very close to the pulse of things was quite emphatic with me that he would never be hired here. Imo, there is no sense arguing nor casting aspersions if that is set in stone.
Although this program certainly needs a splash hire with a history of jump starting things, it seems clear if Mike is out SJU will likely be looking at rising HCs. When you have been mediocre for so long, you can’t throw pie in the sky names out there, but realize you have to be prudent and try to minimize risk. Guys like Boynton, Langel and Robert Jones are examples of guys to me worth talking to despite any “warts” they have. I assume other names will arise since this job pays well and is in the BE. Lastly, I assume Mike Cragg will be part of search committee as he should be, but hope Shanley will have the most clout.
Jones or Langel would be a gamble but we haven’t really given that route a try. A coach who’s proven they can win at lower level but havnt been given opportunity at bigger school. Fran was closest and he seemingly might have been the closest to really working out.Thinking Boynton is becoming less and less of an option as Oklahoma State moves more firmly into the tourney picture and because like some have said, even though he grew up in NYC he hasn't played/coached/live here in about 25 years.
Guys like Langel and Jones could end up being stars or they could end up being a LaVall Jordan or Travis Steele types. Big gamble on both and tough to sell given how Marquette, Xavier, and Butler all shot for the moon with their most recent hires
