Zach Brown Arrested Again

And odds - like SJU v. Villanova -
are long
If he does time
When he gets out
He'll figure a way to get back in
Do more time
ZB you need serious assistance
And people who have your best interests in
mind
So young so wasteful - as we know

When I first read of Brown's recent trouble I thought how stupid could this kid be? It seemed SJU went out of their way help him get to play in a top league and of course help themselves get a top recruit. How could Brown be so stupid?
Because of the current climate in college basketball his recruiting will start all over and he will have many choices to continue his career. His only regret is probably getting caught.

"As chronicled by USA TODAY High School Sports, Brown grew up in poverty and was living in the Liberty City section of Miami before he was adopted by Michael Lipman in 2013. The court had taken Brown and his brother away from their biological mother and their aunt, who was given custody, eventually said she was no longer willing to raise them. "They come from the most horrific situation you could imagine,” Lipman said of Zach and his brother. “The judge said he had never seen a worse case.”

And the moral is: not everyone is from Floral Park.

... Brown just lost $50,000 or so per year in scholarship, all while on a second chance and under watchful eye. ...

Beast, forget the $50K per year scholarship ... not that he would have been here for more than one or two years anyway. It's the millions he potentially lost from the NBA. Unbelievable how stupid some kids can be ... which explains they why do things like this to begin with.

Yeah, watching that Vice documentary was brutal to say the least. Every time I think of Zach Brown I think of the Allen Iverson situation. It worked out for Georgetown.

Not that I'm a fan of Alvin Iverson (I'm not), but this is a case of apples and oranges. If I remember correctly, Iverson was arrested to participating in a ugly brawl at a bowling alley; something that got out of hand but wasn't pre-determined. Brown, on the other hand (apparently; nothing's been proven), coolly laid out a plan for a robbery, which he carried out. ...This on top of his previous offense of robbery and credit card fraud. Hardly the same.

No, but we did have Creature.

I'll preface what Im gonna say by saying that Im coming from Xavier Beefsteak dinner and have more vodka and.cranberries in me than I can count: I dont personally give a hoot if the staff still thinks ZB is worth a shot. Just saying that the chances of him actually being elligable next year just went from slim to nil. If we are Kentucky, Kansas, etc.who gives a damn if we potentially waste a roster spot, but WE ARE St. Johns. We dont have that luxury. Let the kid pay make ammends at prep school or JC., Lets go out and get a commit from someone who can help us next year.

Better yet, let the kid redshirt next year like Patton. Get his life in order and play for us starting in 2018.

I was reluctantly OK with this kid coming on board with initial legal issue/academic question marks, even if he had to sit out, hoping he helps us win...but this newest occurrence and seeing the store-cam video is just too much for me and becomes too real.

Hope he gets it together, but he's a ticking time bomb. We don't want this baggage/risk.

As expected per Braziller

St. John's has decided to part ways with troubled big man Zach Brown, per a source.
Release coming shortly, I'm told. #sjubb

It was a formality after Zach Brown was arrested again, sources said, and after gathering information, a no brainer. #sjubb

QUEENS, N.Y. (Jan. 18, 2017) – St. John’s has granted Zach Brown a complete release from his National Letter of Intent. The Miami-native signed an NLI with the Red Storm in November during the NCAA Early Signing Period. Brown is permitted to pursue opportunities with other NCAA member institutions.

“It was a mutual decision to release Zach from his national letter of intent,” said St. John’s head coach Chris Mullin. “We wish him the best of luck.”

Can't say it's surprising news. Of everyone involved Matt must be most disappointed. For the amount of times he traveled down to Florida to see this kid, all the while he never really changed. This is for the better IMO.

Worth repeating.

How many kids who aren't 7 feet tall grow up in circumstances like this. True, this kid blew a life changing opportunity, but its hard not to feel bad about the circumstances that he was raised.

We have to be honest and say these kids coming from really rough backgrounds are simply commodoties harvested for their athletic abilities for a school's benefit. They are very often plucked from the worst social circumstance possible from single family homes mired in poverty.
