Yankees 2024 Season

You must have taken Xanax after this post last night :)

"F*cking gut wrenching loss. Never thought I would be wishing for Tim Hill.

WTF was Cole removed after 88 pitches? Trust your ace, you idiot Boone. It screws up the bullpen precession unbelievably. Boone in a few moves undid every good move he made in the prior series.

And that's why this franchise will never win a championship with him as Manager.

Fielding, like so many games this season, was a horrible weakness. Early play by Verdugo, a terrible play by Soto turning a double into a triple, Soto not being able to get the ball out of his glove, the play by Torres (of course) and the play by Cabrera, who I am a big fan of.

1 for 8 with RISP. 11 LOB. A significant issue all season long and probably continuing. And 13 more friggin strikeouts.

Judge looked like shit. Can he perform in a big spot? So far, the answer is a resounding no.

I have zero confidence in this team bouncing back tomorrow night."
You said it all! No way your ace should have been pulled after a single in the 7th and 88 pitches.

How many pitches did Al Leiter throw back in 2000 ?

Then the fielding, base running , and judge

Absolute soul stealing loss last night. To be one out away from taking home field away to be staring at a 1-0 deficit with Carlos Rodon on the hill is not comforting. Way too many mistakes last night - Verdugo and Soto misplaying balls into triples, Gleyber once again killing them in the field, Boone pulling his ace for no real good reason, and the continued inability to hit with runners on base. In spite of all that, they had the game won......until they didn't. Stanton keeps showing the slow heartbeat in the playoffs. Judge needs to wake up. Need a big effort from
Rodon tonight, and for the Yankees to not shoot themselves in the foot again.

Seemed very clear to me based on glove position below top of wall and where ball went into glove.
I’m almost certain as long as the ball even hits that light blue line at the top of the wall it’s a homer. I’m not saying for certain it definitely would have but if the kid doesn’t catch the ball and they go to replay, I think it’s at least 50/50 that ball hits that line.

And…did anyone ask Rizzo why he stopped running to 2nd? He gives himself up for the out (why? I don’t know) and if he keeps running, Yankees have 1st and 2nd with still one out. Not saying Rizzo scores from 2nd, but another run would have been huge going into the bottom of the inning.

Just no way to justify taking Cole out the way he was pitching and the number of pitches thrown. This is when you ride your ace that's why they brought him to NY. As for Judge, I'm a big fan but it's put up or shut up time for him as far as his post season rep/legacy goes.
Rodon always makes me nervous but he's been good more often than bad this year; here's hoping we get the good Carlos tonight.

That is how this stupid game works now and part of the reason baseball has dropped down in terms of sports I like the most. It’s the dumb analytics of the game that has taken my love of baseball away. It’s the WS, your pitcher is throwing one more game (maybe 2). He had to go 100 pitches minimum in this situation.

Also, you didn’t see all the injuries and the types of injuries these pitchers get now 30-40 years ago. The pitch counts are obviously not helping and teaching these kids secondary, and third, and fourth pitches when they’re not even teenagers certainly doesn’t help either.

I got my hopes up but then....
Boone's pitching choices are baffling. This team's fundamentals are perhaps the worst I've seen since the '62 Mets. They run the bases poorly, their defense is suspect. Boone. Too many weaknesses to win this year. Yanks need this 2nd game to make the L.A. experience almost tolerable.

torres. clueless. live i missed his double blunder. the replay shows he tried to back hand the throw. his glove was out of position. he turned an easy catch into a difficult try.

YANKEES:
Torres 2B
Soto RF
Judge CF
Stanton DH
Chisholm Jr. 3B
Rizzo 1B
Volpe SS
Wells C
Verdugo LF

Dodgers:
Ohtani DH
Betts RF
T. Hernandez LF
Freeman 1B
Edman CF
K. Hernandez 2B
Muncy 3B
Smith C
Rojas SS

Officially Soto was charged with a throwing error, but Gleyber has to get in front of the ball. No way they were getting Ohtani.
IMO, he should have went the couple of steps towards the throw and caught it on the fly, as you said, no way they were getting Ohtani

For years under Boone they have lacked the baseball IQ to understand the importance of keeping a runner at 2nd with less than 2 outs. Same earlier when Soto played a double into a triple. Soto dove for a ball he had zero chance of catching. In both instances the Dodgers cashed in sacrifice flies. This should be stressed in spring training but seems more time was spent on home run celebrations.
