Team is cooked after today. By Labor Day they be out of a playoff spot.
Betcha that was before Urshela (Bone Spur in right elbow) and Loaisiga (non-covid medical condition which prevents him from playing which sounds a little scary because you don't go on the IL with a cold).

The injury hits keep coming. Unfortunately the base hits do not.
Haha it was before them.
Gio shouldn't be a surprise. Last weekend it didnt sound good but he came back and played through it.
Johnny is tough one. He's good for 3 solid innings whether it be spot start or relief appearance.

The injuries are troublesome for sure.

You are right about Gio. He hasn’t been looking good running either.

Yeah last night he was hobbling also. Guys are dropping like flies and its not just the Yankees. Its all over baseball. These guys work out too much these days. I understand they make tons of money and they don't want to seem lazy but for years MLB players weren't exactly physical specimens.

Boone with a real head scratcher bringing in Schmidt for his debut with two men on. I know the bullpen is stretched but talk about setup to fail.

game 37
21 runners left on base - both teams
it seemed that every inning had a runner in scoring position. neither team had it easy pushing runners home
yanks running out of arms. every day yanks using rookie arms
game 38
the mendosa line lineup produces 6 total bases
Has Boone regressed as a manager?
Not necessarily. His strengths are his positive attitude, his patience, and the fact that he never, ever panics. All of those play strengths out more in a 162 game season, which he does not have the luxury of this year.

I mean, I'm all for being patient with young guys, but at what point are they going to realize that Tyler Wade is a AAAA player, nothing more? Letting Didi go was a mistake (which I said at the time).

Also, I think some of the substitutes from last year are returning to form, unfortunately. You can live by the "next man up" philosophy all you want, but the truth is, next man up is usually not that good. Otherwise, he wouldn't be next man up.

Also many of those next man up's I think feasted off of the crowds rallying them and boosting them. With no crowds I think a lot are just ordinary like you said.

I'm sure there is more to it but I did a quick search because I was curious how the Yankees stood in terms of starter length. Beleaguered bullpen, starters being pulled quickly. Check out below. Cole is only Yankee in the Top 58 pitchers of thrown pitches per start. The bullpen is so run down and starters are getting pulled wayyyy too quickly. I know some are 7 inning games but still

Cole has 8 strikeouts thru 3 innings
game 39.
cole - innings 1 thru 5 - peacock
cole - inning 6 - feather duster

Wheels came off for Cole quickly in 6th
Plus half the lineup is batting below 188

These guys look like complete shit, pardon my language.
Let me know when they wake up from their sleep walking this season. I can't watch anymore
Gary is 3 for 3--Ks that is.
Too bad he wasn't playing golf because this would be par for the course.

Cole pitching like a lump of coal at Christmas time.

Losing to Rays is one thing. Losing to Orioles looking this bad. The Yankees looked pathetic
