Yankees - 2019

Interesting development in the home run race.

Minnesota had a home run taken away, when their game with Cleveland was rained out in the third inning.

The Yankees however, are still homerless through almost 11 innings tonight.

5th straight series in which the Yankees have dropped the opening game. They came back to win the previous 4.

No homers for either the Yankees or Minnesota tonight, so the count remains 280-279, but the Twins now have 3 games in hand, the rest of the way (it will be back to 2 after their doubleheader tomorrow).

Really sloppy, disappointing game tonight. Home advantage on the line and Lyons loses the game. Who?? Tough night for DJLM in the field. Yanks did nothing at the plate all game. 5 run inning had some bloops. 2 hits over last 8 innings.

game 149.
adam o continues his streak of no 1,2,3 ,inning.
adam o starts a streak of games with a balk.

My two cents, but I think Ottavino was wrong about DJ covering first. Pitcher needs to be there, but hesitated and didn’t help himself. He seemed more concerned with complaining.

Also, as for defense, Torres has been pretty shaky lately, and in big spots. He often doesn’t get in front of grounders, and his backhand attempts as he’s falling backwards are just not working. He’s had a great year and at such a young age, but I’d love to see him fix this part of his game.

Yankee defense had been poor all year. I hope it doesn't bite us in the post season.

yankee outfield defense.
did not gardner get the most putouts per chances award last year?
in a recent tv chart, tauchman & #99 plus 2 red sox outfielders were highlited as the best 4 al defensive outfielders.

Minnesota hit one homer in the first game of their day-night doubleheader with Cleveland today, so Gardner's home run in the 4th puts the Yankees back up, 281-280.

I saw a similar list based on defensive runs saved.

game 150.
yanks sticks destroy have not team.
another good yankee starter outing.
5 getty goners.
mr mvp - 4 hits, run scored.
the speedster - comeback yankee of year - 2 getty goners, double, 5 rbis.
deep does not carry down to the Scranton slingers
mr post season roster - hr, double, 2 bb, 3 runs.
one of the deepest offensive team of all time.
even 3rd stringers ford, higgy, Estrada contributed.
my weak complaint - next to not being able to bunt, who is their base running coach?

57 of Gardner's 112 hits are for extra bases - pretty damn impressive year for the old geezer!

Even with the Twins sweeping a doubleheader, the Yankees out-homered Minnesota, 5-4 on the day.

Yankees - 285 HR
Twins - 283 HR

Umpiring is so inconsistent that I now advocate for automating the job. Balls and strikes missed too often.

Even though Minnesota lost today, they still managed to hit 4 home runs, and have re-taken the lead from the Yankees in the home run race.

Twins - 287 HR
Yankees - 286 HR

1 of Minnesota's 2 games in hand on us is tomorrow, so the Yankees will have to do some catching up in the home run race starting on Tuesday, when they play the Trout-less, Ohtani-less Angels.

Tampa was down 6-1 entering the 8th, but are making a run for it, and are now down 6-4. Hopefully, they fall short. If they do, the magic number to clinch the AL East goes down to 3.

Houston won, which means that they have regained home field advantage in the AL (it's tied, but since they beat us 4 out of 7, they win the tiebreaker).

2 bad losses this weekend. Very questionable pitching decisions by Boone. We don't need Montgomery and Cortes auditioning for anything. Leave that for next year's spring training. Using all the "B" pitchers hurt. That 2 game lead over Houston is history. Guarantee it will bite them in the ass come the playoffs.

Screwed us vs. Detroit also.
Had to sweep Detroit and take 2 of 3 vs. Toronto.
Easier said then done right? Well if you want home field, then you better get it then vs. Detroit and Toronto.
Look at Houston, goes to KC and sweeps them.

game 151.
2 successful bunts against the yanks.
the yanks might have 2 successful bunts all year.
welcome back monty & betances.
IMVHO monty got racked. even his outs were smashed. david cone put a positive spin on monty's return I did not see it.

Minnesota won tonight, but they did not hit a home run in the game. So, the numbers remain unchanged from yesterday. The Yankees trail, 287-286.

Minnesota out homered the Yankees 2-1, and extended their lead in the home run race.

Twins - 289 HR
Yankees - 287 HR

Minnesota also has one game in hand, but the Yankees close the season out in Texas, the best HR park in the AL, IMO (Stanton's return may also give them a boost in this race - I think it comes down to the last day).

Other then the Betances injury, the most disturbing part of tonight (though not to me) might be the revelation that it's going to be very, very hard for this team to get the AL's best record. Why? Because the Astros play 7 out of their last 9 games against this Angels team, and the Anaheim offense, without Trout and Ohtani, puts fear in the hearts of no one. With Houston's pitching, it's going to be difficult for them to do much losing the rest of the way, although stranger things have happened.

Severino looked great. Looks like Cashman acquired his pitcher in September, instead of at the trade deadline, and he didn't have to give up anyone to get him.
