Yankees - 2019
James Paxton’s last 7 starts:

7-0, 2.98 ERA
shutting Boston out through 6 tonight.

And it's time to test the whole Astro team. Won 21-1 yesterday, and tonight through 2 innings against a good Oakland up 11-0 with 12hits. lol

As we came in to talk to Aaron Boone in his office, the Yankees were blasting "New York, New York" inside the clubhouse. With their 5-0 win tonight, the Yankees have eliminated the the Red Sox from AL East contention.

Yanks gotta sweep Detroit now. Still tied with Houston

The Yankees win 14 of 19 in the season series against the Red Sox, the most lopsided winning percentage between the two clubs since 1980, when the Yankees won 10 of 13. The last time the Yankees won more games against the Red Sox was 1960, when they went 15-7 in Ted Williams' final season.

6h
Tauchmann's injury certainly opens the door for Stanton to be a postseason contributor, if he can play LF decently (I'd prefer Maybin as a pinch runner/ Stanton caddy come playoff time). The guy who's probably playing himself off the roster is Voit. RBI single for him tonight, but he has not looked right for a long time, now. To me, it's between hin and Encarnacion for the DH spot, and The Parrot's bat has looked much more lively, lately. FTR, I want an infield of Gio, Didi, Torres, and DJ, third to first. Outfield will probably be Stanton, Gardner, and Judge, left to right.

Safest bet is Voit still being hurt. With a core injury like that he came back pretty quickly and there was talk of surgery that never happened.

The irony is Frazier after everything might still be a bat in the playoffs. Obviously defensively you need Maybin but even he is banged up with his wrist.

In terms of playoff pitching also the Yankees have some pretty big splits with their Starters. Biggest 2 are German and Tanaka being MUCH better at home. Its a little closer to level with Paxton. Those should be factors when fleshing out the rotation.

Game 145. Boston gone with the Al east wind. Bravo (8 times) for paxton 8 & 0 streak. Lou will be on the post season rosters.

Tanaka's ERA is 3.24 at Yankee Stadium, 6.09 on the road

But:

If you take out his three road disasters against Boston (1 in London, 2 in Fenway), that road ERA dips all the way down to 3.95. That's still not as a good as his home ERA, but it's more then passable. Tanaka did not face the Red Sox at home this season.

I think Boston is just a bad matchup for him. Their lefties can go down and get even his good splitters, and the righties seem to have the ability to lay it off, and wait for something else. Since we won't be playing Boston in Round 1 (I know they still have a chance, but not really), I wouldn't worry too much about home/road with him. His big game past speaks for itself, IMO.

Good point on removing those.

Same would be good exercise to see the splits against only playoff teams really and removing outliers.

up 6-0 and blows it, 8-6 and now losing 10-8. Yanks gotta sweep at team that's 42-100
Does Boone even care about home field? Cortes, Cessa, Guerrin, now Loisaga.
Guess it's a good thing Oakland is smoking Houston 9-1 in the 2nd.

Joke if you want Moose, but just remember ago vs. Houston. Home team won every damn game.

Damn Cashman, this would have been the perfect game to start bring up Garcia and start him instead of this 1-2inning from every scrub.
We're playing the worst team in baseball, Houston playing a damn good oakland team. This is where we should seperate from them. I'd be happy with a 2 game lead after Thursday.

As I'm typing Edwin ties it. Boone can you f'ing take this game serious now, put in a freaking reg pen guy?

With that HR we just tied the Twins at 275 HRs

And in the 115+ years they've been playing postseason baseball, that's only the fourth time that's ever happened in a best-of-seven series. I'll bank on that not happening again. Also, you've got to get to the ALCS first, and you can argue that Minnesota is the softest landing spot of the four potential first round opponents. To play them, you almost have to fall to the 2 seed.

Homefield is nice, I want our guys to get it, but it's not the be all, end all, and it's not worth overextending guys to get it.

You are confused my friend. I’m not joking about anything. I wanted to see your reaction to blowing a 6 run lead.

Yes two years ago the home team won every game. two years ago. A lot is different in two years. You think I enjoy not being the best. I want home field of course. But I also know it’s a marathon not a 100 yd dash.

For a moment, the Yankees held the all time single season team home run lead, by themselves, at 276. Unfortunately, Mitch Garver has just homered for the Twins, and the teams are now tied. It's not really important who wins, but I'm having fun tracking this, as it's gotten close.

I'll try and keep a daily tracker, but I can't promise to always remember (just like I sometimes remembered to post about the continuation of the non-shutout streak, while that was still active), and I know the site is down tomorrow.

FTR, Minnesota has two more games to play then we do, but we also end the year with 3 games in Arlington, TX, which IMO, is the best home run park in the AL (may it R.I.P. after this season), so it's anybody's game.

BTW, the Astros are losing to the A's 17-2, in the top of the fourth inning.

You are confused my friend, it's no longer a marathon. It's now mid September, it has turned into a 100yrd dash.
You gotta beat Detroit, while Houston is playing Oakland, and possibly get a 2 game lead or atleast a game lead, rather then it be tied after Thursday.
