Yankees - 2019

Yanks played a Little League-esque game last night. When they are bad and fall apart, they are really bad. I understand that are having a really food season, but I see so many fundamental issues with this team. Their defensive play has left a lot to be desired all season. Meanwhile, the Red Sux have picked up 3 games in 3 days. Sensing a minor blip here in their overall performance.
I hope the video coordinator does not make the next roadtrip. In two games of this series, he has screwed up, in both directions.

I would have challenged the DP in the 7th inning Monday night (I thought the initial tag was missed, and that DJ got his hand back in before the second attempt - I'm also not totally convinced that Sanchez was out at first).

Then last night, I thought it was a mistake to challenge that DP early in the game (I said so at the time - not a second guess). No way was that getting overturned. That came back to hurt in the sixth inning, when we couldn't challenge what would have been a sure overturn, that would have resulted in a DP for Toronto. I know the Jays didn't score that inning, but Ottovino had to throw a lot more pitches, and it had an effect down the line, IMO.
Agree with all of your observations!

Red Sux and Ray's coming fast. All those good feelings this team has earned so far is really being tested. Facing weak starting pitching in Toronto and Cleveland, they should have had a very strong road trip. Instead, they are struggling mightily. At the wrong time.

game 61.
happ gave the yanks innings & good pitching.
stats have the jays as one of the worse hitting teams of all time.
dj & kraken - on fire, even their outs are hit on the screws.
too bad chapman had to be used, although he only threw a few pitches
looks like maybin over gardner.
saw the game on the network coverage. it was terrible.
the 2 announcers thought the fans were there to see those 2 instead of baseball.
the subtitle of the show could have been the vlad g jr hour.
we saw more of the rookie than any 7 yanks combined. I loved it when vlad hit into the double play.
the yanks had 2 on/2 out. the network went to back to back to back commercials.
I missed dj's single & hicks^ getty goner. I want Michael kaye.

Had no issue with Chapman throwing last night. He hadn't pitched in a while, and he's shown he needs to pitch fairly regularly to stay on his game.
Interesting article on Clint Frazier's defense:

I mentioned this awhile back. In LF you never said 'Oh no the ball is coming out Frazier'. In RF that happens every time. He must have an issue picking the ball up off the bat. His arm is strong. Two RF's are on DL right now. I just hope the media and his pissing match doesn't get to the point beyond repair. His bat is too good.

game 62.
yankee ace gets out pitched again.
a non rusty hicks catches that ball
a non rusty didi is safe at second.
great to have hicks & didi back in lineup.

I said it on Twitter that this team is in for a bit of a down turn, at a bad time, with many returning, but too many moving parts. German has become ordinary, the bullpen is due for some bad outings, etc. And the crux of it is that they're facing no name starters, and for the most part, can't get any sustained rallies going. This team's fundamentals are still very poor, making defensive mistakes every game, running the bases poorly every game, etc. And where is Torres? Is he hurt? Not that he's the most fundamentally sound player, but I'd rather him than Morales, who is a disaster. Cut him now. And Tanaka can't get back to start tomorrow's game?

This is turning into a horrible road trip, with no starting pitcher tomorrow. How did Boone not start either Sanchez or Voit, yet play Morales? An idiotic move. Seems like every Yankees pitcher has to give up 1 or 2 2-run homers a game. We have faced a bunch of no name pitchers in 5 games, and this offense has not done much. What happens the next time when the Indians get their staff back?

German going on IL. Maybe should have made a stronger pitch for Keuchel?

game 64.
pitching by committee.
its the bottom of the 6th, yanks up 5 zip, tribe has 1 hit. what are chances Tarpley gets the save?
love dj up there with risp.
I would have benched gardner, 0 for 22. let him break slump by pinch hitting.
good thing boone went with gardner.

This difficult win could have been a bit easier if not for Boone. Why remove Cortes after 3 effective innings? Let him start the next inning and see if he settles in for another or 2 more innings to save some of these bullpen arms. I am ok with putting Didi in for defense in the 9th, but if you are going to do that, then pinch run him for Voit. Simple decisions blown by Boone. This team is going nowhere with him as Manager.

Boone is doing a MOTY worthy job this season.

Agree, to have the team in first place with all the injuries is amazing.

Not in my book.

IMHO now more than ever (analytics) managers don't win you games (maybe a couple a year) but they can lose you games. It has been miraculous how well the Yankees have played with their insane amount of injuries to so many of their better players and it is a credit to their replacements on how well they have played. Please don't credit this to any kind of genius of the manager be it Boone or anyone else. Biggest thing a manager does these days is decide when to make a pitching change and I have not always been thrilled with Booneys moves in this regard though he does seem to have improved somewhat in this area.

Regarding Boone's resting players, even when they're needed, it's a LONG season. Makes no sense to over-tax in June when they are needed for several more months.

game 65.
many runs, hits, total bases, errors.
USA women outscored the mutts and the yanks.
tanaka threw 101 pitches.
