Yankees - 2018

another classic come from behind win. excitement in the bronck.
17 hits. 17 walks - both teams. sir didi breaks slide.
a dozen or so warning track outs - both teams.
yanks tried to get away with starting a aaa pitcher.
i never thought gardner's arm would win a game.
bravo walker - born again hitter.
has boone become a running manager?
stolen bases. starting runners with full count & less than 2 outs

I thought Boone pitching move not leaving Green in for a second inning was plain dumb. He almost ended up short in the bullpen at the end of the game.

Boone seems to be learning on the job, especially regarding how to work the pitching staff.

another win - not an instant classic
i guess boone does not read redmen, com as he let green pitch only one frame.
what a combo - selvy & the sticks - 6 runs, 12 hits, hr, 3 doubles, 4 walks

The way he's going with Green he will turn into the next Proctor/Sturtze.........

another game of sevy & the sticks.
baby bombers blast 4 ballantine blasts & 14 hits
again boone allows green only one frame.

Didn't think Severino pitched particularly well as there were a lot of hard hit balls for extra bases as he was throwing pitches right down the middle with no movement but he did battle through for what today is considered a quality start.

Plus Hicks' inside-the-parker.

Sonny Gray took any pitching decisions away from Boone, He went 8 innings (under 90 pitches) 4 DINGERS, Austin Tyler two long ones, Andujar opposite field, and Romine smacked a bomb to center Yankees win 10-1

gray & the sticks.although against a terrible team & pitcher.
bravo austin.
backup c romine shines. ditto with backup ss torreyes. what a bench.
ok its the playoffs (season at quarter mark). do you go with 3, 4, or 5 starters?
which starters? sevy, cc, monty, tanaka, gray, germain. i say go with the first 4.
look to bullpen for innings 7,8,9.

Way to early and I expect the Yankees to pick up another starter (maybe two) around the trade deadline.

As constituted now, they have to go with a four man (no one goes with five starters) because you can’t throw Sabathia or Tanaka on three days rest while German if he stays in the rotation will throw more innings than he’s ever had and Montgomery have will be coming off an arm injury. If the days off lineup, they might try it.

Rotation not like 09 with a younger Sabathia, Burnett and an older but still game Petite at leas two of whom had done it before, all had healthy arms and there was no worry about the amount of innings they had thrown because they had all been workhorses.

The 31-13 Yankees have won 22-of-26 and moved one-half game ahead of the idle Red Sox in the AL East. The recent power show that has delivered at least four homers in each of the last three games is a franchise first.

The Yankees are the first team with at least four homers in three consecutive road games on the same trip since the 1961 Milwaukee Braves.

the sticks - 5 getty goners, 5 doubles, 10 runs..
torres making strong bid for roy
now i know why green is a one frame pitcher. first batter in second frame hits a homer.upper deck.
tanaka - good for a regular season 4th/5th starter. but in playoffs i would not like to see gopher prone tanaka face a playoff lineup.

Will be interesting to see how the Yankees handle the clogged infield situation once Greg Bird and Drury are back. Gregorius struggling while Walker and Austin have picked things up have really created quite a good problem to have.

They've already handled Drury. He's in the minors.

I think they should drop a pitcher when Bird comes back. Don't think they need both AJ Cole and Giovanny Gallegos on staff. Walker and Austin can be valuable backups, because they have versatility.

Tanaka is no doubt inconsistent. But he was terrific in the playoffs last year against some excellent lineups.

He's not even throwing his splitter anymore, and I have a funny feeling it's because he has no confidence in Gary Sanchez to catch it. This could be a problem going forward.

I think Walker is a safe bet to stay with his recent surge, before this he wasn't doing anything. Austin has to stay, he had all 5RBI's last Tuesday at Washington, and hit 2 HRs on Sunday.
One of those 2 pitchers should go.

As I said last October, I'll take an avg Tanaka in the regular seasoon as long as we make the playoffs, then Tanaka shuts it down in October. Speaking of Tanaka, he could throw his spiltter when no one is on.
Maybe have him catch Romine who is hitting 326, so he isn't a bad hitter. DH Sanchez of give him a day off.

Lets compare this team to the 98 team. Yeah I know it will be hard to repeat that 114 win season, but just for fun.

Through 44 games:
They were 34-10, this team is 31-13

Through 59 games:
They were 46-13, this team would have to go 15-0

Here is where I think this team could catch them.
Through 70 games:
They were 51-19, we'd have to go 20-6
I think this team is capable of doing that.

I'll stop there for now.
