Your joking right? Good pitching always trumps good hitting in the playoffs. Bullpen won't matter because the Houston starters go so deep. The Astros will be going to the world series again if they continue this pitching. Look at their run differential.

Foolish to think Yanks won't add pitching before the trade deadline.

of course the yanks will be trading for starting pitchers. to think otherwise would be silly. where did i imply/state that the yanks would not be going after pitching starter(s)?
at trading deadline last season verlander & gray were traded.
will the yanks new starter(s), whether its he or she, be more like mr kate upton or chudney gray?

postulate. run differential is huge. bullpens dont matter.
let us look at the game the astros played 2 games ago. astros lead 8 to 1. great. wow.
astros lost that game. ergo, differential is impotent.

do you believe that the 3 astro starters will finish 1, 2, 3 in era as they are now?
we just saw sir didi go from mr april to mrs may.

postulate. good pitching always beats good hitting in playoffs.
let us look at the playoff game the yanks played 2 playoff yankee games ago. game 6.
yanks used severino, green, robertson, & betances. the first 3 pitchers were a combined 28 & 8 for 2017. betances era in 2017 was 2.87. yanks lost 7 to 1.
ergo. good pitching guarantees good contracts.

great come from behind victory over world series bound astros.
yanks won in a game that tri 2018 cy young award winner morton gave up 3 earned runs & 8 hits in 6 frames.
yanks bullpen gave up zero runs in 5 frames. bravo gardner, torres, #99.

Knight, Section 10, others
spent a sad few days with my Dad (a WWII veteran who fought in Burma against the Japanese, who taught his son, though we were living in Brooklyn, to be a Yankee fan) so sad watching the inferior Pirates defeat our Yanks in 1960. Bad years when in the late 1960s I was a cadet and the Yanks would play an exhibition game each year at West Point. More poor seasons late 1980s. Stump times.
We loyal Yankee fans have certainly hung in there in bad times and, of course, have had our share of good times. And as with St. Johns another imperfect team - I choose to enjoy this baseball season no matter what the Yanks wind up doing. As I will enjoy 2018-19 Red Storm basketball.
Thanks for your insights.

1960 World Series is the first WS that I can remember. Yanks bats pummeled the Bucs' pitching but the Pirates prevailed in 7. I remember stories of The Mick and his teammates in tears following game 7. Mazeroski homered over the left field wall. Still makes me sick.

Every time I see that replayed i am hoping that Yogi catches that ball at the wall and all players are ordered back to resume the game at that point. :)

Really? Tell that to the Braves teams that had three hall of Famers on it (Maddox, Smoltz and Glavine) and yet managed to win one World Series. Or the 2014 Tiger Team that had Velander, Scherzer and Price (and a more than decent Porcello) and got swept by the Orioles in the ALDS. To bring one closer to home, the 2015 Mets with Harvey, Syndergard and deGrom were stronger than the Royals starters but still loss in five.

Could the Yanks use more starting pitching, yes. Does the team with the best starters on paper always win in a playoff series, no.

Yep 1960 the superior team lost
And I think Casey Stengal refused to start Whitey Ford in the opener
As another anecdote, i was born in 1949 and from
1949-1953 i believe the Yankees were World Champs those 5 straight years. Ive always felt that solidified my “ yankeeness” lol

My kids of gourse are Yankee fans - my recent 23 year old college grad son was at the game last night - i was hoping it would be a W - to make the 3 hour drive from
Sag Harbor to the Bronx worthwhile -
And it was!
If like to see the Redmen back on top again - follow the lead of the Bombers.
Memories!

I didn't think I had to mention Houston has one of the best offensive lineups in baseball. Thought that was a given.

Yanks take 2 of 3 from Houston and 5 of 7 from them for the season

Sev goes 7inning giving up just the 2run HR while K'ing 11
8-1 and a 2.31 ERA

bravo sevy, the sticks, the bull pen

looks like at the 1/3 mark that neither the yanks nor bosox will fade.
boone needs in sept to setup the pitching rotation for sevy to pitch the first post season game.

i'll go to battle with sevy & the yanks pen any day.

bravo 4 wins in a row.
the boilerplate boone play book for the last 2 games and season..
have starters (gray, tanaka) pitch 5 or 6 innings.
bring in the pen. one inning per pitcher.
have the sticks hit for double digit hits & add homers.
have sterling say ' thhhhhhhhhhhhhe yankees win.

torres - al rookie of month
