Many of the fan base would not have been upset if Anderson was fired after last season.
That may be so, but based on the nasty comments and regular attacks I experienced on a regular basis from criticizing the staff, the threats by several moderators to kick me off the site and very few posts criticizing the staff if there were people who thought as such, they rarely expressed that.

I think I was the only one on here that really pushed for his firing after last year, and thought it was a mistake to bring him back. Even Mark Schmidt or King Rice would have been a better option, if not the sexiest names. Of course, I wanted Tim Cluess last time around, so it shows you what I know.

Although I saw things almost from the start that I was concerned about, my main gripe is that he is too "old school.". His big mistake, IMO, was essentially kicking Moore and Cole off the team, either because he didn't like their style of play, and/or their attitudes. Who knows what went on there, but you have to live with it sometimes. I don't know if those guys had any eligibility left, but they would have helped this team (last year, too). Moore would be another banger inside with at least some offensive game, and Cole could at least hit the occasional three. Anderson seems to want a very specific kind of player, and I'm not sure that kind of player exists. Sadly, Wusu is probably the closest thing to it on this team (at least Mathis is justifying his playing time this year).

I also wish he tailored his game plans more to the opponent. He just seems to believe his style will win out in the end. I'd have less of a problem with this, if he had someone on the bench to help him out with this. I have no issue with the assistants who are here, but they seem to function primarily as the Coach's mouthpiece (at least during games).

Lastly, he's a good, decent, sane guy, in a profession dominated by crazy men who break all sorts of rules. In the end, that could be the most difficult obstacle of all.

The difference tonight was not only obvious in the better structured X offense but in the attentiveness of the players during the time outs.
The X coached clearly outlined strategy and pointed out key things that needed to be done. The players were paying close attention and made eye contact.

Coach Anderson, when he was verbally coherent, was giving pep talks to guys who looked defeated and had little interest in the TEAM concept. Jones, Posh and Curbelo were not making any eye contact and had their heads lowered.

The makeup of the team is defective and the backcourt is one of the worst in the conference which is the complete opposite of what everyone were sold. Neither of our two headed point guards are dependable shooters other than contrived layups. Not getting Storr more playing time and getting him better shots is a waste of time. Even with a learning curve on his defensive skills his offense could well offset the horrible combination of shooting by the Posh/Curbelo tandem.

Absent a miracle turnaround on the offensive end where Mathis and Storr shoot more than Curbelo and Posh, this team will keep digging themselves out of self-inflicted wounds.

I'm sure our coaches are decent guys but they are not doctors and may not be able to tend to what ails this team.

Really awesome post and that last paragraph is spot on.

And I say that as someone who was down to give Mike A this season to prove he could make the tournament.

Alas…..

Tough but expected loss. Xavier seems built to beat us.
Was at the game so didn't hear the all access stuff. Posh hurt his lower body, groin perhaps, in second half, and was definitely affected by it. He still gave it his all.

This game signifies a likely .500 finish in the BE regular season. An unexpected win would have given me some scant hope we could be better than middle of the pack.

You think we win 10 big East games?

Total lack of basketball IQ, name the last two players playing on the same SJU team together that had high bball IQ! No we have some of the best athletes running around lost on D and offense, it’s not solely an anderson problem it goes back years and years. I’m done watching and wasting money for the same old crap

5 points doesn’t do the loss justice. Xavier put on a clinic for 30 minutes and took advantage of their cushion. Small credit to the kids for not quitting but that’s just not enough. My hope was we would be a better team in close games late this year, now it looks like I have to hope will be in games late :)

Here's my observations

1) the seatbacks were better than I expected. Helped low back but can see how taller person loses some space

2) the in-game on court host, Denise Gonzalez is stunning. Did I say stunning?

3) Posh could barely hit a 3 in warmups

4) Not one SJU coach was around in any of the warmups in the hour prior to tip. It was like watching guys at the park. Total opposite for Xavier. They came out like a well oiled machine with their Strength & Conditioning Coach and assistants.

I feel you. It's like every year it's just a repeat, it doesn't matter who the coach is, it's the same damn thing.
What if Fran wasn't such a nut, would he still be here? What if Jarvis went to the Wizards and Jay came here, damn it.
What if we pass on Pitino and Georgetown hires him and they get to the F4, we'll be saying, that could have been us.
SJU will forever be saying what ifs because we'll never take a chance on someone.

There's only so much a die hard can take before he says: "I'm done."
God forgives, why can't some people?

Noticed that X's guard Souley Boum played all 40 minutes. If we played relentless defense that should not happen

I just got back from the arena. I thought the effort for much of the game was lackluster and like Villanova did, Xavier out-toughed us for the bulk of the game. The crowd was poised to explode if we could have made a meaningful run, but the run started way too late to turn the game our way. In our three losses this year we have slept walked through significant sections of the first half. In less than ten minutes to start the game Iowa State outscored us 17 to 2, in about six minutes at the end of the first half Villanova outscored us 17 to 2 also and tonight is took Xavier just about three minutes of the early part of the first half to outscore us 16 to 0. So in about nineteen minutes of first half basketball we were outscored 50 to 4 with just one made basket and two free throws. This pattern of getting manhandled for sections of the game is pretty ugly and we have not imposed our will against our opponents in the same way. I also found some of the body language of the team tonight a bit off putting. One thing I have always appreciated during the Mike Anderson era has been great effort but the energy was not there tonight until our futile late run. I am not sure what is going on with the team but the ship needs to be righted sooner than later because so far this is not looking as good as many of us had hoped for. The Seton Hall game on Saturday is one where we need to be way better if we want to right this ship.

I am typically a CMA defender, but I have to put this loss on him. For most of the first half, Xavier got every shot they wanted in the paint. Nunge and especially Freemantle were receiving the ball entirely to close to the basket. I thought we needed two bigs in the game while the lead was ballooning. In the second half, we could not defend the high screen. They were either hitting the roll or getting a run at the basket. Very frustrating to watch.

Overall the substitution patterns and minute allotments are hard to understand. Lastly, as many have stated, we have no identity in the half court offense. It seems aimless.

I think it is too early to call the season a failure, but I sure wish I could name something this team is doing well at the moment. I will be at the Prudential Center rooting hard in a few days. 🤞

I think that's a good point about body language and effort. Even though he was quiet and not an in your face type of guy, I think Champagnie was a leader that got his teammates to elevate their effort and not sulk. I think Wheeler being a vet from a winning program helped with that as well. This team was supposed to depend on Posh to take over that role this year but his poor play has led him to having the worst body language on the team.

What exactly is our identity? Our D stinks and we have no offense.
It seems to be every man for himself and the coach doesn’t seem willing or able to fix that. Just yelling doesn’t fix squat; doesn’t inspire anyone. My mom always yelled. I was tuning her out before I was out of elementary school.

Until that happens, we will only beat the teams we’re “supposed” to beat and get waxed by any halfway decent team.
