Xavier - 2nd Game

Needed that win. Good game to be at. Need 2 more win to get to 21.

Now I gotta ask, why are they trying to give me a heart attack.
1st half - 0pnts in first 6-7minutes then 28pnts to finish the half.
2nd half - 4pnts in 10minutes, then they get 7 in the next 1:30 lol and finish the half with 30pnts total.

They better not begin halfs like that vs. Georgetown, or it's a guaranteed loss.

Huge W tonight. What a massive step towards that bid

I hope you took Xav + 2, that's a double win!

Hahahaha I am kicking myself about that but could not be happier with the result. I was up on the day so it was house $. Gladly will keep putting up money to see us win!

Great win. The type of win that yeah you feel like you escaped catastrophe but the type of win you feel really proud of.

We stuffed more x players than bread and life stuffs turkeys on txgiving day

Oh man was this a nail biter at the end. This felt like old school big east basketball

Really big win with Obekpa contributing nicely, Pointer all everything, and DLo clutch. Off night for Phil with nothing from Amar and Branch but Jordan helping when needed. Great to win against a good team that just destroyed Butler and was hot. Also shows Johnnie's can win even when some guys are off.

@TomPenders: @AdamZagoria Great win by St John's over XU 58-57 ! Scrambling, hustling defense was the key . Johnnies caused 20 XU turnovers. 2 W's vs XU.

Yea we fell behind, but anybody who didnt enjoy this game is crazy. Great Big East matchuo vs a very good team. This was the game that gets us into the ncaa's. Yes I thihkk I think we need another win, but we will get it. This is a very good SJU team. Not flawless.. Could use Jayvon Pinkston in there, but wwe will have to give it to him soon.. We will make the NCAA's because of the win today...imo

I enjoyed it, but they still make me crazy. 0 in the first 5-6minutes on the first half, then get 28 the rest of the first half.
4 in the first 10minutes in the 2nd half, then 26 in the last 10minutes lol.

It's like WTF, were they toying with X, then when they decide to turn it on they go off.

Please be motivated to score all 40minutes on Saturday.

Just finished going through the messages after getting back from a great game. I was surprised to see everyone describe our favorite warrior DLo as clutch without one person mentioning that he was almost the goat. That play was worse than Hoopers last year if we had lost. He also can't be getting himself in foul trouble so often with bad fouls. Still love the balls he has in making those 3s though.

Branch had a key play where he caused a Xavier walk when SJU was on a run. Greene hit another clutch 3 and Oblockpa and SirDom were so intimidating down low.

As far as the spread was concerned, anytime a team is laying 1 1/2-110 or -125 on the money line I am taking money line every time, worked out on this occasion. Obviously I was right when I said that this scared the crap out of me. I'm much more confident in the Gtown game on Senior Day than I was on this game.

It appeared that Lavin was going with his recent strategy of conserving Obekpa's gimpy ankle in the first half by starting Amar. Quickly we fell behind 11-0, and we looked as flat as pancakes. Lavin made a smart move. Instead of looking down the bench and inserting another minutes burner, he reached early for Obekpa, and crossed his fingers. The result was a 15-2 run, 28-9 in all the rest of the half. Amar played just 6 minutes, including a minute or two late when they went right out him. Obekpa just overwhelmed Stainbrook defensively. It reminded me of Arkansas' Joe Klein (an eventual NBA player) looking completely inept vs. Patrick Ewing a long time ago.

The minutes in decreasing order:
Pointer 40
Jordan 38
Greene 36
Obekpa 33
Harrison 31
Branch 16
Albegovich 6

If Harrison wasn't in foul trouble, his minutes would have been closer to 40. I think it was one of those games where we needed our best players on the floor. Fatigue could have played a factor in our sloppy play offensively.

Harrison stuck a very long three late. Jordan, while he continues to be a little careless when trying to float a pass over the defense, has an ability like no one else on this squad to break down a defense in the half court offense and find an open man down low without a spectacular pass. Pointer and Jordan read each other very well, and Dom knows if he cuts, Jordan sees him

Once again, Sir Dominant. He's earning a cape.

LiveRPI has us moving from 45 to 38 and amazingly Xavier falls from 29 to 30 still ahead of us. We beat them twice have a better conference record and overall record yet are still 8 spots behind them. RPI is severely flawed

Anything that doesnt have Kentucky #1 has to be flawed.

I thought Harrison's grit and determination won this game when it was destined to be a frustrating loss. He was hacked on that TO, but that was fine as he returned the favor by tossing stainbook to the floor during frantic final seconds. If stainbook was on his feet he would have had that rebound and put back and we'd be crying over it.

Either Stainbrook flopped or he is the softest 300 lb. guy ever. Not only was he not on his feet for the rebound, he was in the way asMyles Davis was coming around for the shot. I sense that he threw Davis' rhythm off just enough to cause him to miss an easy 15 footer.
