Xavier - 2nd Game

I haven't seen a replay of the DLo turnover but some other people are saying he he was fouled as well. I didn't notice a foul live but I was pissed that he made a bonehead move by stopping instead of continuing towards the basket. Took some years off my life.

I saw the DLo turnover at the end as a foul. It was somewhat vindicated when the refs basically let the game play out and didn't call us for a foul on Xavier's last possession. We won, so it's a bit of a moot point, but overall I thought the refs did a decent job last night.

Reffing and fans reaction to refs are funny. I thought the refs did a terrible job because they called two different games. The 1st half they let everything go and then called everything in the 2nd half. Now, they called it both ways for both teams each half so in that sense I agree with you.
And we won the first half going away.. and lost the second. With our unusual style, the refs and how games are called will to a large degree and more than usual, determine how we do in games and how far we go in the tourney.
I agree completely about the tourney reffing. Don't know if the different reffing styles affected the outcome of either half though; if we made our foul shots even reasonably well in the 2nd half it obviously would not have been close at the end but that is basketball. Pointer and Harrison seem to take the majority of our foul shots and both have shot well this season. Jordan takes a fair amount and his percentage is not great but he seems to shoot better at the end of games; just my impressions on all 3, the stats may say differently.

I'm pretty sure two different crews worked the two halves.

Oddly enough, I have no complaints with the refs last night. They called more fouls at the start of the second half so there was plenty of time to adjust to their change in calling the game. They did not ruin the game for me.

Very impressive for the team to gut it out last night.

Dom has been Mr. Everything.

But big credit to whoever on the staff or the team has convinced Sheed to buy into the team concept.

Rarely do we see the Eurostep into 3 defenders anymore. And he now gives the ball up in the halfcourt rather than trying to do it on his own.

Still settles for an unecessary jumper early in the shotclock at least once a game. But him playing "within the offense" has done wonders for this team.

I was privileged to watch second half with my son in great seats behind our bench at the invitation of the great JPM 114 & his wonderful buddy Tony. Great game & hoops discussion. Will be back to my roots in 114 for our GTown win. :)

was wondering what the heck happened to you. we almost had to call the paramedics because we thought ralph was going to go into cardiac arrest watching that 2nd half :)

We could hear Ralph's F bombs across the arena when Xavier went up by five. :)

Dead on, a totally different player.
Wouldn't at all be surprised to see him return and take over the D'Angelo role next season.

And "whoever on the staff" should read "Lavin". He gets the blame.. he gets the credit. It's his staff.

I knew Dr. Fun was a Homer all along! ;)
This is the real side of this caring and compassionate man. A man who never makes light of cancer or the death of a beloved parent. A man who sees his beloved redmen going to the post season in every year the wizard has coached (yes Hit, only four) and whose gift of gab has endeared him to fans just as the eloquent Lou Carnesecca did with his Joe Lapchick quotes. Just that Lavin quotes John Wooden instead.
However, I disagree that an NCAA bid is locked up yet and we still need one more regular season win and possibly a win or 2 in the Big East tourney.
Other than that I pretty much agree with everything Fun said and the reference to kissing a virgin reminded me of my first kiss at age 10 with my teenage neighbor who went on to teach me so much about the meaning of lasting 3 minute relationships every chance she had when her divorced mom was not busy banging the local beat cops or gangsters in my wonderful Brooklyn neighborhood.
Can't wait for Fun's recaps after we crush Georgetown and Villanova.

I'm not surprised. It went like this:

" I've had it with this f#*+#ing team! You can't let a team go on a 17 nothing run on your f#*+#ing home court!!!"

All was back in good order as he headed for the 10:21 with ncaa hopes in his head.

Fun doesn't believe a bid was locked up it was one of his many references to what others have posted on the boards and his mocking of them and I LMAO all the way through. As for the Dlo-Stainpants controversy: first saw it as maybe Dlo threw him down, still did after a few replays but did wonder how with just one arm he could throw down such a big man. Later saw replay form a different angle, one straight down the full length of the court and Stainpants was stepping over the back of Dlo's legs and either tripped or flopped. No foul was the right call and I am no homer and never blame refs for a loss, well except for the NFL's replacement refs in the GB-Seattle game in the Replacementgate game.

The crew from the first half were my favorite refs of the year. I'm sure glad they returned for the final two minutes.

see the last one of NYCRedmen's photos. He was fouled by the first defender the refs missed it giving a no call on the second defender. The TV replay doesn't show it as well as the photo:

Isn't the head part of the ball?

Harrison has exceptional communication skills and thinks on his feet. Whenever I read his quotes, I learn something. Most kids spew the same canned responses you hear for year from different guys.

Key quotes:

“You have to pick and choose when you get fouls,” he said. “I had four with like 10 minutes left, so I was like, ‘Coach, keep me in the game.’ He left me in here. He trusts me because I’ve been here four years. We grinded it out and got a W. Big win for us.”

Significant to hear that Harrison was able to convince Lavin to keep him in with 4 fouls. I expected him to get yanked for 3-4 minutes at least when he picked up #4. It was a great call because we were sputtering on offense without Harrison in there.

“That was part of me coming here,” Harrison said of playing in MSG. “It’s amazing to play here (and) call it the home court. Hopefully after I graduate from here, I continue to play here on a different team.”

Nice to here that Harrison has NBA aspirations. He just might have an NBA future, but after hearing CJ Nitkowski speak at his HOF induction, I think Harrison just might have a career in the booth after he stops playing at wherever level he attains.

Amazing to say I'm going to miss this kid's off the court quotes as much as his contributions on the court.
