Xavier 1st Game

How sure are we Chris Obekpa will not be available for this game? I may have missed the announcement. We have 15 fouls to use against Stainbrook. I think our other four of Jordan, Pointer, Greene and Harrison can hold their own against the rest of the X team.

Lavin called his sprain of the "high" variety.

Usually that comes with a 2-4 week recovery time, we shall see. He injured it exactly a week ago tomorrow.

I wouldn't do that. A mod got ticked at me last week for speaking for the group. I would have thought he was a Catholic bishop but I don't think it's possible.

Posters are more than welcome to make whatever bets they'd like so long as the bets are within the rules. Why is it that I couldn't be a bishop?

What makes you think I was thinking of you. If you want to have a discussion other than the Xaiver game, PM me. I was speaking to Jack.

A mod or two get ticked at me every week. Thank God one of my biggest fans has been too busy lately to dislike me. Tom, is that you in the back of the bus line? :p

whats gonna be the plan to stop Stainbrook and Jalen Reynolds?

as much as i like Dom, i dont like our chances up front tomorrow.

I have to agree. To me Stainbrook's biggest asset is finding open guys. Double him in the post & he passes well. Reynolds and Farr are also tough Inside, so it could be a long day without Obekpa. Chris Mack is also excellent at making adjustments & Davis is a heady PG. All in all this is a tough matchup, not impossible, but clearly challenging.

Obviously it will depend on Obekpa's status tomorrow. He guards Stainbrook, Dom on Reynolds, Greene on Dee Davis, Rysheed on Myles Davis and D'LO on a tough Bluitt. Could zone them but still would be disastrous playing a small Redmen lineup. Let them earn their points, don't want to see points in the paint.

Normally I would agree with you, high ankle sprains take a few weeks. But this is coming from Lavin, so it wouldn't shock me if Chris has a separated shoulder, an in-grown toenail, or is still on double secret probation for his cheap shot.

Actually when you really think about it Xavier may have some defensive problems guarding our lineup. If Amar starts that would pull Stainbrook away from the basket. Still would have the same problem taking Balamou. Reynolds would more then likely defend Sir Dom who should be able to drive around him from the corner and the foul line. After watching several Xavier games Bluitt, D.Davis and Myle Davis shouldn't really worry D'LO, Jordan and Greene.

He was stepping quite gingerly at Wednesday night's game (noticeably uncomfortable while walking). Did not shoot around at all. I would be surprised if he is available tomorrow.

I hope I'm wrong but I expect tomorrow afternoon we'll be thinking it could have been a different result if OB,Thomas and ADR were available.
You can't do anything about an injury but can't SJU do a better job of getting players eligible? If deficiencies come to light in June perhaps something can be done to avoid Sept. ineligibilities.
All schools run into problems from time to time but our list is just too long.
Houdini could not have gotten Thomas eligible. The mistake was coach thinking he was gonna board for us. He had to recruit over guys who can't make the grade, or not bring them in at all. Staff wasted 2 years at the least. Big time coaches don't recruit bandages, they bring in D1 players.

@RogRubin: St. John's Obekpa practiced today. In Xavier, Storm is facing a team with size. Game is Saturday at 12:30 p.m. NYDN:http://t.co/Nte2MkbR9Q

Xavier has lost one home game this year. SJU will need a few things to break their way to win this game.

This is absurd even for you. Xavier has one home loss all season, they are a solid team, and they have a top 35 RPI. We will be without our only big man--the strength of their team.

We've really been unlucky this year. We would have beaten Butler if Jordan wasn't a diva...and we probably beat Depaul as well. Now we have to face a beatable (but tough) Xavier team without our 6'9 center. A sweep of Xavier would jump us over them in the RPI, the Big East standings, and the NCAA tournament selection.

Awesome.

We've had awful luck. Butler w/o Sheed. Nova after a loss. Duke with injured Harrison and coach K sitting on 999 wins (instead of in letdown mode after 1000). You can even say we started with bad luck getting Seton Hall w/o cancer Whitehead.

Harrison injury probably also cost us Depaul and Creighton. Add 2 wins and things are entirely different right now. Hopefully Opekpa's injury doesn't cost us tomorrow and any more games. At the end of the day though we still have a shot so it's time to see what this group is made of. We need to stop making excuses and win a game that we are not supposed to.

Mark it down, the one game I called this year was at Cuse... I'm trying my luck again tomorrow. Going to take that moneyline and hope we get our best win of the season in Ohio.

Really hope we don't plan to double team every time Stainbrook gets the ball down low. Just fight so he doesn't get good position, no need to double team. We've been effective at this before. I could easily see us collapsing on him every time and Xavier having their best 3 point shooting performance of the year.

Is there any valid reason for this completely nonsensical post ? It seems to me you are only here to flame the board with nonsense.
We are still in the running for an NCAA birth , are playing a damn good team on the road where they almost always win and you are advocating firing the coach if we lose this road game.
Please give it a rest and refrain from such posts in the future. Don't make us muzzle you because we will.

They are going to have it anyway. The book is out in Big East circles, to beat SJU shoot the three.
It doesn't mean it will work though.
