Xavier 1st Game

Again I don't know if Xavier is gonna overlook us, but some of their fans are.

Just took a look at their board and the pre game thread about us is 2 pages.

The thread about Cincinnati who they play after us is 40 pages
The battle of Cincy always a big deal.

whats gonna be the plan to stop Stainbrook and Jalen Reynolds?

as much as i like Dom, i dont like our chances up front tomorrow.

I have to agree. To me Stainbrook's biggest asset is finding open guys. Double him in the post & he passes well. Reynolds and Farr are also tough Inside, so it could be a long day without Obekpa. Chris Mack is also excellent at making adjustments & Davis is a heady PG. All in all this is a tough matchup, not impossible, but clearly challenging.

Gatta deny. Play the lanes and get some tips and turnovers, and then it's off to the races. It's like playing the Zags. If they are allowed to run what they want, it's a long day. Maybe Balamou running around will get'em nervous. Lets see what the Staff comes up with. Most of the time I put it on the players. Sometimes the coach must help the kids win one.

Stainbrook is maybe the best passing big man in college basketball.

Could be a good learning experience for Amar for the future but he, Joey and Dom are over matched against their front line....

Since you brought it up, and i am trying not to be critical of Lavin, but Mack is an excellent coach too, and his adjustments will leave Lavin with that look on his face when Creighton came out in the Triangle and Two in their building a few weeks ago.

If Harrison and Jordan play out of their minds they are beatable, but we would need big games from those two. Felix cant take ten shots tomorrow.

worst 3 point shooting team in the conference.
I'd suspect more zone than usual.

I didn't realize that. It seemed like they lit it up from 3 against PC last week. I thought they were better from 3.

We will probably front Stainbrook with a smaller man and try to deny him the entry pass. It likely will not be Dom, in order to avoid foul trouble. Probably Felix and D'lo. Dom will have to control Reynolds.

I hope I'm wrong but I expect tomorrow afternoon we'll be thinking it could have been a different result if OB,Thomas and ADR were available.
You can't do anything about an injury but can't SJU do a better job of getting players eligible? If deficiencies come to light in June perhaps something can be done to avoid Sept. ineligibilities.
All schools run into problems from time to time but our list is just too long.

Jack, do you have a link to that board? If you posted it already, my apologies.

I haven't and here it is. You'll see that their focus is clearly on their rivals. I am hoping their players have the same mentality and we steal one.

Thanks Jack. I laughed out loud at the poster who called us a "$hitty team" and the poster who said we were having chemistry issues! Those guys are hilarious. But in their defense, one of their posters did come back with some stats showing we are clearly not a "$hitty team."

And you're right. Their focus is clearly on the Cincy game. Hope that works to our advantage.

See the thread on their website about Jalen Reynolds having a temper, and getting T'd up quite a bit this season. Looks like a perfect partnership with CO

Like to see Joey in to lean on their bigs for a while.

to me that's our only chance and what I'm praying for based on DLO's last game. Hoping he stays on fire
