@West Virginia, Fri., Dec. 1, 7p, ESPN-2

Line opened at 2.5 and moved to 6.5 in a few hours...4 full points -- that is a gargantuan move in gambling, specifically basketball.

I'm glad I got in on it early, but more confident I'm on the right side of things and my thinking seems to align with the big fish in vegas. Here's to a great game tonight by our team! lets get this win!

Quinn is a really good kid. He's tough and has a lot of swag....maybe too much. Don't believe what he's saying, this is very personal. He understands it but feels they chose Chris over him. Had a chance to see them in person v UVa. Strange team...as mentioned short bench, not great shooters but they play hard. This is one your guys should win.

Almost everyone who signed on here will get less minutes with such a large supporting cast. Pitino needed goes who understand and accept that. Slaz is a competitor who wanted more and nothing wrong with that. Very clear he and Rick have high regard for each other. Definitely not a grudge match.

Everyone gets this wrong. These aren't big fish, these are bookies laying off money to hedge. My uncle was a bookie (and was mobbed up).

Which is why you should always bet the other way.

Meant 10-10
12-8 would do but not easy
11-9 probably have to win one BET game
I obviously agree with the logic that more wins gives you a better chance to get invited but this season there’s SUCH a difference btwn the top and bottom of the Big East that it’s really hard to say if 10-10, 11-9 will or won’t be good enough without knowing what the specific wins and losses are.

So strictly from a betting standpoint, one should take the points in this situation?

You mind breaking this down again...

I always understood it- that a line moves in whatever direction so that almost have the bets are on either side of the line... so the Book still makes money off the Vig regardless who wins

Given this line has move 4 points- you can assume Public money is all over the Johnnies right? and given Public is mostly wrong... that doesn't bode well for us... correct?

Please correct and explain,

Just take the Johnnies on the moneyline at -250 and don’t even get involved with the points.
I thought both Slazinski’s and RP’s comments were classy .

Slaz is playing 33 minutes for WVU . As RP said ,. He and Ledlum would have split time here . 50/50. One can understand Slaz wanting to play as much as possible .

Also too,,Ledlum didn’t exactly jump on the Pitino bandwagon very early in the Portal , having committed to Tennessee first and then switched .

I’m sure Slaz would have played a lot more here , without Ledlum but , the Ball bounces funny sometimes .

Anyway , seems everyone is happy now . Rick did give Slaz props though, saying he and Ledlum were equal but , do different things .

Slaz is also 6’9” in contrast to Ledlum 6’6” .

Love the investor comment. Vegasman sounds like he would know more than me but from my perspective, when it comes to public vs sharp money, a lot of times the public is all over a team and the line doesn't move and the majority of the money can be on the other side with the sharps that move it.

I think lines move more from the sharp guys as opposed to the public from my experiences and research but I suppose it depends on if certain public guys throw heavy money on a game. There are sites that show public percent and volume of money on each team and plenty of times its opposite when it comes to public money and line movement.

Yes. Or the money on the Johnnies is coming from books, who have too much bet on WVU, and so the public is betting them.

My point I guess is that the narrative about "sharp" money versus the public is often too simplistic.

It's like horse racing, people have a narrative that "the smart money bets big at the last second" so when the odds change a lot right before the race, that should be good for the horse whose odds change.

That's a story.

But the fact is those horses do worse than expected because it isn't sharp money, it's bookies laying off. Which explains why that horse does worse.

No it doesn’t. I guess you didn’t get the point of my post. My point was about losing vs winning and length of game threads. Not about pre game talk on a game.

Plus it was Michigan in the 50’s. Dayton was in the 30’s. If you are gonna try and negate something at least be as accurate as you can be.

And this game has been a week away and ppl started posting right after the holy cross game with anticipation.
It was a joke, relax. This thread will be 15 pages at tip-off. If the game is close it could exceed 40 pages.

I’m all about jokes (joke thread). Didn’t seem like a joke. But all good.

Back on topic. Yes I know it’s a hostile environment there but I think we are over thinking this. We keep progressing the way we seem to have been and with Luis in the mix and this is a win for us by a decent margin.
