@West Virginia, Fri., Dec. 1, 7p, ESPN-2

Tough news a few hours before game time...kid was just getting his feet wet. But that's where you're happy you have the depth...back to the Charleston Lineups.

And here is where you have to take advantage of WVa lack of depth, speed and just impose your will and your game plan. Make the game your pace, start fast and don't let this be a repeat of Iowa State. We have a more talented team, staff, and head coach now, so lets just keep the momentum rolling.

Not sure what many fans expected but this riding and falling with each game or in this case, the loss of a player is silly. We have a great coach, a new team and pretty much a whole season ahead of us.
Anyone who expected no ups and downs was kidding themselves and while the loss of Luis and Ledlum with restricted minutes hurts for sure, SJU has enough depth to still put really good players out there and on the flip side, could also have lost with both available and at full strength.
The season is a marathon, and I am holding to my feelings when Pitino was hired and had no idea of the roster makeup; I am going to enjoy watching a well coached committed team playing and see where the chips fall.

St John’s BE schedule is frontloaded. They don’t need to be world beaters. Just get through the first 10 games 5-5 or 4-6. It won’t feel amazing but it will set themselves up for a 2nd half run
Wouldn’t it be so awesome to NOT have a season where we’re in need of a 7 game win streak in February-March to get on the right side of the bubble?

For once I just wish we could establish ourselves and stay above the bubble talk. It’s exhausting. But alas we are the Johnnies

So why the consternation when we do not know if the team will require a seven game winning streak in February-March. that is the case yet.

This may be the first time we are on the right side of the bubble and never look back. Alas, the Johnnies are now coached by a hall of famer.

No one game this early in the season is going to make a difference. We could lose this game and wind up beating Uconn and Creighton or we could win tonight and lose all 4 to Uconn and Creighton. Every game is important but the body of work is what matters in the end, so those saying it is a must win really don't have a leg to stand on. Now if it was the last game of the season and we are projected as one of the last 4 in or n the fence, then the one game has significant meaning.
No one game will make or break the season…I’d completely agree with that. To say that no one game makes a difference, though, is just off.

I don’t think anyone believes this is a runaway winning team or a complete dud, so we will be in that very uncomfortabe tight space come March. This game is in a bucket of 6 or so that we need to walk away 6-0 or 5-1 from. Throw 2 in from DePaul, BC, and two from the second worst team in the conference (Gtown?).

If this team goes out and sweeps Marquette and Creighton it makes this game look less important, but that’s not a reasonable expectation. 18-19 wins heading into the Big East Tournament looks most likely.

thats what I’m trying to say, but I did a poor job of it. I’m just saying that dismissing these non conf games as not as important this season, to me means we would be accepting that well be on the bubble, and I’m saying we should shoot higher than that!

This year we actually have games like tonight on our schedule that would look good on a resume. We need to seize the opportunity

Last year…our non conf literally didn’t matter cause the schedule was so shitty. Last year big East play was all that mattered. Don’t think that’s the case this year with some tough games upcoming

Now that I calmed down a little I am going to take a slightly more positive tone. We know we have some good players. Assuming Ludlum can give it a go. We have the same team that played Michigan and Charleston. It's an unknown which way they will go. I really feel that we have to go out and beat West Virginia. We still have the better team.

You love the extremes, huh? Do you really think there is anyone that didn’t expect ups and downs or injuries to occur? 😂

That doesn’t make it any easier to accept arguably the second best offensive player missing time. It sucks.

Ok so I guess I have to temper my win by a decent number to just win the game by I dont care how much. Heal up Luis!!

I also would like that. It’d be great to take care of business all season and be talking about seeding in February instead of the bubble. I’m just saying in the first 11 games they play UConn 2x, Nova 2x, @Creighton, Marquette in the Garden…the “easy” games are Xavier & Butler at Carnesecca. Not saying this team isn’t capable of surprising everyone just saying they’re still new to me and that seems like it would be a tough schedule for a Top 10 team. If they’re .500 it means they won a couple games they weren’t supposed to win.

“Such a fine sight to see”

Such a fine post to read, Logen.
You have a great attitude and perspective which I appreciate.
This season and the tenure of Rick Pitino have only just begun.

Exactly, can't cry over an injury. S* happens.

Time for a surprise player to step up and show off on national TV.

I have no idea how Vegas works but St. John’s -2 or -3 is as good of a bet as you will see in college basketball all year for those that were able to get that. Of course it doesn’t mean they cover, but you have to jump on the few opportunities you get.
I took West Virginia +5.5 for $300! Hope we win 5 go Johnnie's! ;)

Of course with Luis out and Ledlum ill but playing it is dicey. You want a good bet: SMU plus the points this weekend in football.

That said, program has been plagued by slow starts and BE holes we never got out of. Yeah, new HOF Coach, but am sure Rick would obviously like to tuck this one away. Losing Luis is tough, but let’s see the character of the team dealing with adversity. West Virginia has had their fair share of roster losses as well. No sense whining, just go out and beat them.
