Welcome John McGriff

I know its a mix tape which shows highlights but breaking the ankles of two different players on the same play sequence is impressive (and pretty damn funny).
That’s Mac Mac Clung he is twisting

The kid does resemble McClung, but it's not him. McClung never played for IMG.

I don’t agree with undersized Pg hurting us at all. McGriff is a ton like Yogi Ferrell. He’s strong with a low handle and will get around plenty. Good elevation on his jumper. I also trust this staff more than others. These guys win and have proven it time and time again.

Great, welcome aboard. Right now he is the starting PG by default. Lets hope this kid is a hard worker because he seems to have a high skill level already. Cant wait to see what he can do.

He sure looks quick and has a good-looking handle.Glad he's on board, and wish him nothing but the best. But given his size (or lack of it), I'm a more than a little concerned about about his flat-footed outside shot that was frequently shown on the highlight film, and whether he'll have a problem getting it off against bigger, equally quick BE-level defenders. Guess we'll see.

He has good elevation on his jumper. He does fade away at times. I don’t see him being flat-footed. I watched the vids. That said, we can still use another lead or combo guard.

It’s definitely a slower release. Some guys can make that work, Marcus Williams comes to mind. IMO whether or not Mcgriff is successful won’t come down to his height. I’m looking forward to watching him.

Neither
Borman's or TJ's, or you can't say?
He wasn't being recruited previously by Anderson and wasn't by Matt. Just an available kid they pounced on.
All the more impressive

Let’s hope he is like either of the GTown guards

Nice pickup...obviously a bit concerned about his height because in our conference he will face 6'2-6'4+ guards much taller. Hope it won't be a Simon vs. Howard type situation where the length really shut Howard down. Glad he's aboard and found another vid.

Don't think we have to worry about his shooting, more interested in his "in the jock"defense and point guard responsibilities. Will be nice having him around for four years.

Is his handle really that good or was he just outquicking slower opponents. Concerned at liability on defense at his size. He may be tough but our last small guard , Boothe, was a block as solid as a fire hydrant who couldnt be pushed around. At his size will need to be deadly shooter when open, or a guy who can distribute while carving up defenses.

Have you watched this kid? It’s pretty obvious this kid and his handle are lightning quick. Plus, every coach or recruiter pretty much says the same thing about him. I’ll take a pit bull at PG who has a sick handle & takes pride in his defense any day on my team. IMO, couldn’t ask for much better considering our position this late in the recruiting process.

Welcome aboard Mr. McGriff!

I watched the video. Quickness is relative to the ability and agility of your opposition. If he is that much quicker than opponents at the college level he can partially offset height disadvantage. Pitbull or not, guarding a 6'4" guard or caught in a switch against a 6'7" forward will create problems, especially in a smaller lineup that we figure to have where he won't get much support from bigs. Basketball is very unforgiving when it comes to height, so on offense he would have to contribute a lot to earn playing time, or else he is a stopgap measure on a thin roster. No question quickness is the second best physical asset to have after height, but at 5'9", to create enough space to get off shots, or even passes that won't be deflected, you have to be that much quicker than opponents. I hope he has the goods.

Can anyone find his HS stats? I don't see them anywhere. I couldn't find him on the Huntington Prep roster either.

Of course
Under our circumstances we cannot NOT sign him
Further I trust Mike Anderson's judgment over ours
And all the critique on this site, paper HS stat and videos mean nothing much until we see him in practice and on the court
finally he has heart
all the best

I am with Mase on this. Height is largely, not completely, irrelevant if you can play. Height is also no advantage if you can’t.
