Welcome back Julian!

Zach B

Was told Justin received a high-to-mid second round draft grade from the advisory committee and Julian was given a mid-to-low second round draft grade. #sjubb

I think if Justin is leaving with a guarantee of a high to mid second round slot then Julian will leave also with the guarantee of a second round slot. If Alvarado was thinking of coming here I wonder how or if Julian leaving would affect that?

I'm no insider but I close to someone who knows Julian well. Apparently he's more likely to enter the draft than not at this point. He's been told that he's likely to go in the second round. He's a kid and thus he could have changed his mind already. I hope he does but at this point it seems unlikely that he'll be back.
He will be back. I don’t buy that for a second.

As soon as I seen on twitter Justin announcing he's staying, I knew there would be someone who's friends with someone who knows someone, on here that would post they just heard Julian is likely gone.

There's no guarantees of getting drafted, that's just a feedback score letting them know where their potential to get drafted is.  There may be 50 players that get a mid-low 2nd round score, and obviously only 15 players will be taken in the mid-low 2nd round.  Even with Justin score of high-mid 2nd it's still a risk of not getting drafted.

That makes no sense to me, everything I have read says neither one in on the top 60. I hope Julian doesn't make a bad decision.

I hope Julian stays. He can improve his game with one more year at St. John's. There is no guarantee that he gets picked in the 2nd round and we all know that the 2nd round doesn't guarantee you anything.

That said if I was a GM and had a mid to late 2nd round pick I would grab him.

Time will tell.

I think a kid leaves when his stock is high enough and he feels he doesn't have anything more to prove.

Julian began last season with a lot of question marks as to whether he could handle the scoring void left by LJ's departure.

He played well enough to be named to the all Big East team, and towards the end of the season showed signs that he could create his own shot off the dribble, and also take the ball stronger to the hole.   I think he does need to show more of that.   His ascent even from a surprising freshman year to All Big East status is as good as any Johnnie in memory.   Late 2nd round pics have less of a chance of sticking, and I would imagine that the thinking may be that if he continues to improve he may play himself into the first round next season.

I'd expect him back, but would also expect this to be his final season at St. John's.    He appears to value education as well and will be that much closer to a degree..  Even if this news is expected about his return, still we can all breathe a collective sigh of relief.

Was told Justin Champagnie's decision to go pro will have nothing to do with what his brother Julian decides. He's going through the proccess. Nothing has changed for him, according to several sources. This had been in works for a while. #sjubb

Not sure why many on here keep saying basically that Julian will do the same as Justin. They went to different colleges no?

I don't put any creedence into any of this.  I have no doubt a close source told Zach that but I don't think it means anything.  Did he really expect the person to say, "Their tied at the hip..."  That would ruin Julian's announcement since that would already tell us that Julian is staying in the draft.  By saying what the source says it leaves open the possibility that he stays or goes.  Exactly what it was 5 minutes before that tweet....

The only thing I will say is when he declared a lot people just assumed it was unlikely he would stay in draft.  I said it is not that simple and it is much closer than many of you thought/think.

Thought that a while ago it was going to Long, so  put me on the side of he is not coming back. Think coach and staff have prepared while it will hurt,a new recruit bring something diff to the table and we will be fine

I'm sure it is a tough call for Julian and his family. While Justin is more NBA ready now, having watched them both a fair amount I feel Julian has a higher ceiling and will benefit more from another year in college. If had to guess, I'd say he comes back. Then again what do I know, I'm still getting over having an exacta box of the horses that finished second, third and fourth in the Derby!

It appear to be at best a 50-50 proposition that Champagnie returns.  If he does not, I don’t think “we will be fine.”  We certainly would not be projected to dance.  As for Alvarado, I don’t see any set of circumstances  it would make sense for him to come here given the uncertainty surrounding Champagnie.  Even if Champagnie were to stay, Alvarado  strikes me as a long shot.

Make no mistake and let’s not sugarcoat things, it would be devastating if Champagnie were to leave.  Absent Posh, we would essentially be starting from scratch with a cast of unheralded newcomers.

We have a terrible history or being "lucky" in having athletes on the bubble return back for another year. I'm hoping we get lucky!

I'm hoping whether he returns for another year or not Julian does what is best for him because that is all that matters.

As a SJU fan, I’m not so altruistic.  I suspect neither is Champagnie.

Didn't Pitt want to redshirt Julian?
