Welcome back Julian!

Our Champ seems like a loyalty type guy. He unlike GW and ME was recruited by CMA. His dad was a soccer player here and he is from Brooklyn which cherishes stick-to-it-tive-ness. Either he gets great NBA news and goes there, or he is with us next year. I don't see him in the Port-Hole.

If there is one kid who I would label "most likely to not transfer", it would be Posh. Not even exactly sure why, but just get the sense that he really wanted to stay home and play for CMA and at SJU.

Why are people just making stuff up now, because we had a few transfers like most teams?

I could see Champy go try to win a national championship with a team like Virginia.

I could see Champy returning to a decimated team and averaging 27 ppg.
I could see Champy retuning to lead a team that has a bunch of decent new faces by the end of April.
I could see him staying in draft.
I could not in a million years see him transferring to a new school that doesn't have Justin on the roster.

You really don't think the portal is even a consideration for both brothers? I'm not saying it's likely, but I wouldn't completely rule it out either.

I think one would transfer to the other, rather than something like Justin going to Kentucky and Julian following him.

And right now we've got the better PG than Pitt.

I just hope Julian isn't such a follower that he follows Justin into the draft, because right now he's not on any mocks that I've seen.

Agreed it's unlikely, but what worries me is that right now there are coaches from other successful programs trying to figure out a way to reach out(through intermediaries) to one or both brothers and try to entice them with things like "you could win a NC here", "I'll make you a lottery pick next year", etc etc. It's the wild west out there. Almost anything goes. These kids all watch the tourney and I'm sure dream about playing in it. While it's way to early to say what our chances are of dancing next season, there are lots of programs that will most certainly dance next season. I could see one or both brothers wanting to have that opportunity(assuming they don't turn pro), and I can't say that I blame them.

What is your definition of a few?  Roberts, Williams, Earlington, McGriff, Moore, Cole & Caraher.  7 is not a few.  7 is not like most teams.  7 sounds more like an exodus.  What do you think the narrative would be if Seton Hall had 7 transfers this year or any team in the BE?  They would be a laughingstock.  This is not a normal occurrence.  What is the average # of transfers in the BE?

Think of it this way.  CMA and staff transformed a largely overlooked bunch of recruits into the 4th best team in the Big East this season.    It's almost natural that these guys think they have a higher trajectory than they did before coming to St. John's, and for some this is there only chance to explore that via the transfer portal without having to sit a year.   This is a by-product of success, not failure of our program.   We were a 9th place projected team that finished 5 places higher.   Coach won BE coach of the year, Posh Rookie of the year and co-defensive player of the year, Champ 1st team all BE.   This is all very good stuff for a team of castoffs.    We will upgrade - staff has been aware of these transfers for quite some time, due to the respect these kids have for coaches, and have been working diligently since.

Beast, am curious to how long the Coaches have known, some of these players were going to transfer?

Maybe it works out for the best but the optics look terrible. Also as you know, being a SJ fan, we have seen this movie before and we all have seen how it ends. I hope this ends differently as we all need to see the program move forward.

Also, I have seen a bunch of posters keep indicating we can do better but I enjoyed watching these players like GW and ME over the years.  It sucks to see this kind of turnover.  I thought MA would bring stability but it hasn’t happened yet.  Stability and winning will bring back the program.  Transfers and mediocrity breed losers.  I will keep my fingers crossed as I see new signed players.

We've seen it all before but there are new sheriffs in town.   I would say CMA and MC have earned our respect and patience.   Just a couple of months ago, nearly everyone thought the season was lost, some even saying we may not win another Big East game, winning only 1 or 2 conference games overall.   Well, CMA proved us wrong.    The season before, he took a team projected to be as bad as Mullin's 1st year 1-17 Big East record team, and while 5-13 was not great, ended on such a high note that our program was formidable and respected.

If any of you have been tuning into the pregame Chalk Talks this year, you'd probably agree with me that each coach on our staff is extremely bright, charismatic, and dialed into what it takes to be a winner.   Each can recruit in his own right.   It's a staff that kids will want to play for, in a high exposure league, and in a program that by any measure is on the upswing.   Have a little faith.   I'm upset at the defections, but I have high confidence better days are ahead without a dreaded swoon next season.

Not just the best player, but without question has grown into the leader of this team.   He is reminding me of David Wright in that regard

I don’t understand why people keep referring to him as the leader of the team.  Right now, he isn’t even on the team.  You can’t be a leader with of the team with one foot out the door.

Some double edged swords(if that's the right term) Beast. Yes we finished 4th which was wonderful, but we shouldn't have had a roster in the first place that was expected to finish 9th. And we still weren't even a border line tourney team. Second, if the kids had so much respect for the staff, most would still be here. So while it's great that they notified them so early, it would have been ideal if they had stayed. That shows real respect.
At the end of the day, as we head towards CMA's third year here, the expectation was that we were, at the very least, going to be a potential tourney team next season. If we can still do that, and retain a large part of our team for the following year, then I'll be satisfied with the progress.

I too love the work ethic of the staff, but at the end of the day it's the results that count. Happy Easter.

Why would he post then?   He isn't even on anyone's lists to be a 2nd round draft pick.   He is going as a sophomore to get valuable feedback from scouts, and if he absolutely kills it against the best college players wanting to enter the draft, good for him.  Can't say a single thing negative about a guy who has even an outside shot at the NBA.

Happy Easter Monte!   Well I don't agree that with about a year on board, his year 2 roster should have been much better than it was.    Lavin, who you didn't care much for, recruited very well out of the gates, but we'd all agree that if he pushed a little harder could be one of the best recruiters in the country.    Anderson is a program builder, and not a silver tongue like some others.   From what I hear, the exodus is all about kids wanting to put themselves in a better position to make money playing ball post college, and zero about unhappiness with the staff.

If you had one shot to change jobs to better yourself at that stage of your life, to something that could affect the next 10-12 years for you, would you think of loyalty to a boss or company you really liked?    I know I left places I loved at that age.   I guarantee you that for most if not all players, it's about that and no knock on current coaches.

But for certain, I'm not on the team, and your opinion is as good as mine.
