We don’t deserve Ncaa bid
To what degree does the Selection committee take into account short term injuries to discount certain losses? Between ponds and heron we have a few of those. Could make the difference of giving us the benefit of the doubt (that we probably don’t deserve by sputtering to the finish line).
Th committee chairman said it will be a big factor if the team played better immediately upon the return of the player. Three of our losses were without Ponds or Heron and we bounced back immediately after two.

Every year there are a couple of major conference teams that get in aren’t worthy. And a couple of mid major schools get snubbed. It’s the way it goes. This year it’s most likely St John’s. Doesn’t hurt that we play in the largest media market in the world. NCAA really likes that.

I love Maher and understand the disappointment from eveyrone after last night, but can the mods take this thread down until Sunday or at least rename it.

The committee has some tough decisions ahead of it and we don’t need to give them an out. We tend to shoot ourselves in the foot a lot as a fan base.

My simpleton view is if the selection committee deems SJU worthy of a spot, then the team deserves it. And it isn't like there will be pressure on them to select SJU. The program does not exactly have outside parties advocating for it.

And by the way, I feel good they make it. But if they do not, I am blaming Mike and everyone from 114. ;)
Embarrassing and humbling to sit through that, with a row of mature Marquette fans clapping staidly in front of us.
Oh well. Can't expect to win on a night we shoot 3-20 (15%) from 3-pt range, 41% from inside the Arc, and ~64% from the free throw line.
Miserable game, but met a great gang of Section 114 stalwarts so what's the worry!
We probably get in. KS leading TX by 7 with ~7 mins left.
And who knows what we do with our low seed?
Rooting for 1 win in the Dance.
Color me an optimist!
Hey Chicago,
It was great meeting you last night. I hope you make it back here to another game.

I was spared the torture of watching that game because the big guy to the right of you blocked my view of the court. I was going to ask him to sit down in his seat, but I decided it was not worth watching that second half.

I usually sit in front of that guy. He shows up at different times during games at MSG - always with a giant sized beer can in his hand. From now on when our team plays like shit I will ask him to sit in the row in front of me.

He does post here often. Losses in this tournament brings out the worst in him and all of us fanatics. I think these losses remind us that even back when we had strong teams we sucked in this tournament.

Yes, that's what the NCAA committee does, look on fan forums to pick teams for the field.

Definitely. The committee members are locked in a hotel room in Indy reading message boards to get an idea of who to put in the Tourney.

Just like Fr. Harrington was reading Big East Boards every day seeing if he should fire Norm Roberts.

Brilliant analysis.

The committee is comprised of human beings. They want to get out with the least trouble possible.

You can think it’s a joke all you want, but I’ll tell you right now I’d 100% look at the forums of the last 10 schools on the bubble to get a sense of what their fans feel. That would inform my decision on who goes to Dayton and who is squeaks in or is left out. Some of threse decision are impossible to make on just the #s.

Sunday on CBS at 6:45 PM ET:

Analyst Chip:
"Interesting guys, St. John's was left out. Let's take a quick look at possible reasons why."

Analyst Joe:
"You see Chip, they were all set to be selected, until a committee member who asked to remain anonymous revealed to me that they have a forum called Redmen.com. On the forum according to the source, some of the fans were a bit skeptical about them. That was all he needed to see and St. John's was quickly removed from the bracket. Back to you, Chip!"

Yeah, great meeting you as well OLV72! Nothing like bonding through misery.
You were lucky. Mike blocked your view.
I had 'front row seats' watching the Marquette fans celebrate with every 3 and layup and put-back...torture!
I'll be back.

The players should take some of blame. They failed to execute. During a TO in 1st half the camera zoomed in huddle and Millin said keep attacking the hoop. Guess he really meant keep throwing up 3s. Even if we somehow get a bid, we will be a one and done.
I agree Dave, that's exactly what Mullin said and Marquette had no one that could physically deal with a guy like Heron going to the hoop. I know Mullin is not the greatest coach but there have been multiple times this season where they show Mullin giving direction during a TO and these kids go out and do exactly the opposite. They are all good kids but the have shoulder some of the blame. There's no reason for blatantly ignoring your coaches instructions and just not showing up in certain games.
Marquette was cutting off the drives to the hoop for the most part. We had our moments where we got to the cup, but Marquette was discipline throughout a good portion of the game. I thought Marquette played rather solidly defensively.
I had mentioned that in another thread. Our drives weren't as much challenged as that they forced us into low percentage shots at bad angles when we did penetrate. They are a good team.

By playing better when they come back pretty sure they meant for more than one game at a time. You know like maybe win 2 games in a row once in a while.
Will this be the first Maher created thread that gets locked??? :)
Haaaaa. I’m actually angrier today than last night. Losing is bad enough but it happens and obviously it’s really hard to beat a team 3 times. But it’s getting our doors blown off in multiple games that drives me nuts. At least I know it wasn’t the Bronx Pale Ales fueling my anger. They probably subdued me. Then Nathalie driving me home she keeps telling me why do you let the losing bother you they’ve been losing for as long as we’ve been together except for a couple of Lavin years. She says “ you should be used to this by now “ :)
We'd have a chance in the NIT. The NCAA would be another exercise in futility.
This team and all it's meaningful players had much higher aspirations than playing in the NIT and in fact just a few weeks ago we were considered a lock. The let down would be pretty severe and I highly doubt this team would be up for any NIT run. It would have Robert Morris written all over it. Let's hope we aren't faced with that scenario.

The StJohn’s record would look better if it had the first Seton Hall game in the win column.

Unfortunately they don't and had they won the first game I'm not sure they play with the urgency they did in the second game.
The StJohn’s record would look better if it had the first Seton Hall game in the win column.
The record would look better if we didn’t collapse down the stretch.

And if the mods want to delete my thread I don’t mind. I vented my anger but I still feel the same way as last night and I’m not going to get offended if it’s deleted. Don’t really mind either way

Hell no. We will not delete.
We want you to grovel when this team gets to the Final Four.:cheer:
