Wagner, Wed., Nov. 13, 6:30p, FS-2

I think the starting lineup was simply Pitino changing things up to see how different combinations work together. Except perhaps for Zuby, where it was also probably a motivational tool. For Kadary and RJ, I think it was probably seeing how the group that started played together plus rewarding Dunlap for a great game against Q and giving some extra burn to Scott who played like 1 minute that game because he wasn't feeling well.
Vince starting was pure motivation for Zuby. It didn’t work. I think Vince is clearly a second unit guy…maybe around the third TV timeout each half. He has absolutely no defensive presence in the lane whatsoever. He’s not bad away from the basket. One thing that intrigues me about Vince is as a screen setter with his long legs. Clingan was allows to set screens all year with his feet spread and it bought his teammates so much space.

The only time these three games where I felt good getting a defensive rebound was with Prey late tonight. He sealed his man and attacked the ball at its highest point.

- Luis Wilcher smith are all great but we’ll be as good and go as far as Kadary takes us

Passive last few games but let’s see if he turns it up Sunday

- Watching from the stands, every time zuby screws up, misses a basket, drops a pass he immediately looks over to the bench. In the 2nd half he stopped and just played ball

- Vince can really defend anyone especially on a switch. Not only does he stay in front of the man, he actually pressured him. Nice to see

- Prey will be a guy come January who wins us some games. He may not drop 15 but he does a lot of little things like box out, tipping balls, constantly moving that win

Sounds like Pitino has more faith in this team than many posters. Seems like he himself was toying with Wagner. Hard to criticize Kadary if your head coach is basically telling you this game is for everyone else. He turned the switch on and immediately gave us a 20 point victory. Dude is a big time player.
New Mexico is big so we are going to need solid play from our bigs

What I like about this team is they're stronger at the end than they are at the beginning. That's when the will to win kicks in. Look at the Rutgers exhibition. Remember, Wagner went to the NCAA's last year. They don't have a blue blood name. That doesn't mean they're crap. They came out hard and played outstanding defense...until they were worn down by superior players. A 21 point win is a 21 point win.

New Mexico will be tough. I hope they have a two half game in them. This team's personality tells us they'll be on top at the end.

Why do we have the big men switching at the top of the key? Wouldn’t it make more sense for him to stay down low. And not have to rush back to cover opposing bigs .

Again I don’t understand treating these games differently than against better comp. Can’t just turn it on against better teams. Going into season with more questions than answers IMO.
Rebounding, three point shooting, Kadary’s offense, Zuby, defending the three. None of those things were answered in easy part of schedule.

What did everyone think of the automatic big - to - big double in the post we were doing last night defensively? Might shed more light on ricks confidence re interior defense.
I noticed that as well... which ever "big" of ours was in... should have been able to handle his own re: Post D.... after i saw it for the 3rd time... even when it wasn't their 6'9 guy who received it in the post.... I felt Rick was prepping for his D against Nelly on NM for Sunday... getting the off-defenders used to doubling.

Not sure how big a fan i am of it... the 3 other guy have to be ready to anticipate the passing lane coming out of the Post- or be quick to the open 3pt shooter.

I’m fine with Smith averaging 4 turnovers. A 5 turning the ball over is tough to stomach.
Looie would throw you out of the gym for saying that. He favored guards who would protect the ball.and not commit turnovers over flashier types. 😀

In terms of the late surge, playing 3/4 of listless basketball against inferior opponents, all of our good teams could throw the hammer down amd pull away in the last 10 minutes. It's not a strategy, but common.on basketball not to blow teams put from the onset. (Not replyong to you on this paragraph)
