Wagner cut the lead to 2 points in the second half and Kadary proceeded to assist on 17 of the next 24 points and we won by 21.Perhaps Kadary had a good number of assists but his “scoring” game has been absent the last two games and he has not looked like the player he was advertised to be. Hoping that the upcoming better competition gets him going cause we will need him to make a greater offensive contribution.
Would have been back after 2 games but the site was down last weekend, LMAOI see it's the old "We-Blow-Out-A-Weak-Opponent-But-If-We-Play-Like-This-Next-Week-We'll-Surely-Get-Blown-Out-By-A-Better-Opponent" thread.
Took three games, but redmen.com is back in full swing!
Would you rather they watch the shot clock?2 seconds left on the shot clock and they foul
You are so hard on Kadary I love the kid. He doesn't just get assists, he serves them up on a platter. He makes everyone better and he doesn't have to dominate the ball. He's not athletic and he does get beat on defense...but where is the help? He's strong as hell and his body control is just crazy. Hopefully his pace and control rub off on Zuby and RJ.Kadary’s style might just take some getting used to. He reminds me of Kyle Anderson aka “slow mo”
the broadcast crew last night was a lot more complimentary of his play than I was personally seeing. I enjoy his vision and calm demeanor handling the ball, where I struggle with him is defensively. He got blown by several times, and he looked timid. Didn’t seem interested in mixing it up on the defensive end, being aggressive and fighting for loose balls/rebounds.
As we’ve discussed, our bigs are often pulled out of the paint defensively. Meaning guys like Richmond have to be willing to board consistently. Last year, Chris Ledlum was an unsung hero for this very reason. We need that again from guys.
After reading Pitino's quotes and him basically saying nothing about the lack of energy or criticizing Kadary or Luis to explain their benching, its very clear to me that he told Kadary "try to see if these guys can figure it out without you". That's a very hard way to play a basketball game. You are so hard on Kadary I love the kid. He doesn't just get assists, he serves them up on a platter. This was a game to step back and let his teammates get more involved, and I'd guess that was worked out before the game with Pitino. His selfless play is huge positive IMO.
Not sure if we have a choice. What did everyone think of the automatic big - to - big double in the post we were doing last night defensively? Might shed more light on ricks confidence re interior defense.
I don’t think I’m being hard on him. Comparing him to slow mo wasn’t a diss. Kyle Anderson has been in the league for a long time, and has made a career off of playing at his own pace which can often throw off the opposition. You are so hard on Kadary I love the kid. Also, our bigs are WAYYYYY to willing to wonder out to the perimeter. Hedge near the arc and recover. There was a point last night where Zuby took their PG at the top of the key and we could have switched back 3-4 different times and didn't. We got Vince out there so low he's looking like he's taking a handoff from a QB.
I don't see Kadary in the league. I just think he's missing too much athletic ability. He would need a really good outside shot to make that work. I hope I'm wrong. Maybe he can be one of those weird forwards that plays up due to strength and rebounding?I don’t think I’m being hard on him. Comparing him to slow mo wasn’t a diss. I do hope to see a bit more out of Kadary on the defensive end and I think that’s more than fair to say.
But I agree with you regarding the help defense. It needs to improve. This thread killed Wilcher last night for a play in the second half where a guy beat him by driving baseline, but it was clear Wilcher thought he had help on that side and the help disappeared a moment before the drive. These are things that will hopefully improve throughout the year
I just don’t think we should be scrambling and switching prior to having that approach. Solid D, keep it in front, and if entered then double— Fine. But if we’re already out of position and then we have Zuby or Vince as a help defender running out to chase the skip pass, don’t think it will work. Not sure if we have a choice.
The bigs flying around needs to stop. I know Pitino changes his zones and probably hasn't installed everything yet. They need to stay home and we can switch 1-4. Right now, they are so willing to wonder outside. A good coach can reliably get our 5 stuck on a guard with minimal effort.I just don’t think we should be scrambling and switching prior to having that approach. First half last night Wagner had us running around like crazy and just couldn’t convert.
Rewatching some of the first half and yea it’s pretty clear that Vince just isn’t cut out For that type of scrambling on D. Zuby a little more fit for it but even with him I still don’t love itI just don’t think we should be scrambling and switching prior to having that approach. I don't think our team last year could've done what our team did last night on defense. I totally agree.I am first and foremost a defense guy. My big takeaway was the consistent effort on that end but especially the persistent rotation to the next pass. Doubling only works if the players off the ball are in motion, being active, not reactive.
What some posters attributed to Wagner running clock I thought was really good aggressive anticipatory defense by the Johnnies. IMO the game became waiting for an offensive run and it eventually came.
Wagner was obviously doing it to limit possessions. The coach in the Creighton game came out and said the same thing last night. He openly stated he was going to wait until late in the shot clock to run their offense. Copeland turned a 40 point loss into a 21 point loss with that strategy.I am first and foremost a defense guy.
