not to go off topic but do you get your screen name from that howard stern caller bobo that makes me want to drive off the road and hit a telephone pole ?

Congrats to Coach Mullin on his first win. May there be many more to come. I anticipate his teams will model his career at SJU. With a tremendous commitment to hard work and conditioning he improved as a player each season. Those who buy into his vision , and I doubt he will recruit knuckleheads who won't , will constantly improve. It may not be as quickly as we want but the improvement will be there. It seems like we have a nice foundation in Mussini, Sima and Ellison. Add the talent we have sitting out and you can see the start of something special. Sit back and enjoy the ride I promise it will be fun.

I did not see or hear the game; opened the site and your post appeared first - ahh a win.

My Dear RMN could not agree more with your insightful and positive spin!
Chris Mullin did NOT promise Ws at his press conference. He promised the best conditioned and hardest working team ( and staff).

This entire program is now driven! Determined! The coaches and recruits came for two reasons:
To participate in the genesis of something grand AND
to win!!!

Like Ulysses Grant and the Grand Union Army, they will assuredly win.

The Ws will follow and flow - as many have written. For now (circa 2015-16) we get a glimpse of what will be. We see the determination and drive.
Exciting!
Hopeful!
We are fortunate.
We are St. John's.
all the best

@JonRothstein: Sacramento State upsets Arizona State in Tempe. College basketball -- where the unexpected becomes the ordinary.

We should've hired a Hurley B)

I dare 1 person to say they didn't think there was a possibility we would go 0for as of the other day including me :) In light of what just happened in france this doesnt even mean anything right now. This is a fucked up world that we have to deal with. We have friends there who are fine but I'm not so sure I'm even going to complain after a loss this year

Tonight hurts. Hope everyone from our Paris Campus is fine tonight

Your talking perspective! Thanks for bringing it up.

thx but to be fair I'm watching peru vs paraguay right now in soccer

Just got back from the game
Sat a few rows behind Coach Carnesecca and Ron Rutledge
Bigger crowd than I expected
Mussini shot well - better than I expected
Sima has the potential to be a very good player on both ends of the court
We have absolutely NO ball handler behind Mussini
Our shooting (including free throws) left a lot to be desired
A glaring weakness is our rebounding
Coach Mullin was more active on the bench and drank a lot of Perrier during the game
The kids played hard and seemed to enjoy playing with each other
We have some talent and more reinforcements will come
The future of St John's basketball is bright!!

Sima is already better than Obekpa was as a junior. Obekpa's basketball iq was horrendous. Blocked shots are very overrated. Sima will in tbe NBA.

Let's hold off on putting any of our players in the NBA. Let's just hope he stays here 4 years and leads us to something special

Just making an observation. He's the only one on the squad with NBA potential at the moment. He won't be here 4 years. Do you think Obekpa is/was better?

Really enjoyed the game. The students behind the basket were loud and the crowd even was into it in the second half. I thought Mussini could have scored a lot more. They need to set him some picks. Sima can do a lot, including passing the ball. Ellison can handle the ball, shoot from the outside and attack the rim, needs to work on finishing. I expected a lot more from Johnson. He seems confused in his role. I hope he elevates his game. I predicted a win and predict a rather easy win against UMBC.

Dieu benisse la France

Sounds strange, but thanks for acknowledging tonight's atrocities. And not only do I hope everyone from our Paris campus is fine -- I hope all the good people of Paris, my favorite city, are fine, strong, and resilient. Very happy with our win, but this really has put a damper on things. (Apologies for sounding like a downer.)

Also keep Ron M'Vouika in your prayers, as he is from Paris and probably has a lot of family there.

we contacted our friends there and they are all good. Tomorrow I think will be a big day there going out and not rolling over for this crap. Hope everyone else that people know from here is safe also

I always thought the talk of Obekpa going to the NBA was simply crazy. Some people on here were concerned that he would leave after his freshmen year! The guy was a one-dimensional basketball player, and an undersized one(by NBA standards) at that. Sima has NBA length and seemingly decent skills and good instincts for the game. Granted it's a small sample size. IMO by next year he will far surpass CO as a basketball player, and i would not be surprised to see him playing in the NBA in the future.

Glad to see The team get their first win. As long as we improve every game, that's all you can ask for. Hopefully we will see improvement from Williams. Durand didn't shoot well but he had a high motor, and made his FTs ,also rebounded well. Mussini seemed to get more comfortable shooting the ball. I also would like to see him off the ball, but the problem is who would be the pg.Was a little disappointed in Jones rebounding, but he played hard. Sima played well also. We essentially play 7 players, thought Holyfield would get more burn.Nobody seems selfish on this team and seem to enjoy one another.

What a transformation from just a couple of games ago. Congrats to Coach Mullin!
Doesn't matter to me whether we win a single Big East game this season or not, this is going to be a good group to get behind over the next few years--players and staff alike.

Agree, win or lose I know I will enjoy these kids.
Wagner outhustled to the boards in the first half. Didn't like the lack of boxing out.
Mullin moved the guys in and out. Smart move, especially since he has a small bench.
Mussini better get a lot of sleep, going to need it. Really looks like there isn't any other player to handle the ball.
I never expected Jones to stick around. Got to give him credit for doing so.
Love Ellison, Sima and Mussini. Didn't appear to be nervous.
I expect more from Johnson but understand he is working his way back from surgery. Should become our top scorer.
Thought Williams looked much better.
Raferty was right on about Mouvika holding onto the ball with 32 seconds remaining. He obviously wanted to get fouled instead of passing the ball to take time off the clock.
Good win youngsters.
