This is a quad 2 game, hopefully it rises to quad 1 when all is said and done
multiple pumps, and switching hands ----- that Curbelo FSU play was something Mark Jackson certainly couldn't pull off.In the limited number of big games(except ISU) Curbelo has come up big in crunch time and eliminated many poor plays. His drive down middle to basket with double pump against FSU was one that most players at that level are not capable of converting !
Agree 1000%! Loved Mark Jackson , made everybody around him better, which is what great point guards do. AND , he could always make his Jump shot at top of key.multiple pumps, and switching hands ----- that Curbelo FSU play was something Mark Jackson certainly couldn't pull off.
Mark on the other hand was as great of a passer as I've ever seen and I am old enough to have seen Cousy. At times with the length of the Court passes Mark Jackson looked like a QB making the perfect spiral. Not to mention Mark's look-aways, behind-the backs, and some of the tremendous alley oops he could throw. Loved Mark, Andre is not Mark.
Andre and Posh play some awesome defense, Curbelo at times, Alexander always. Opposing guards like Nova's are going to have a hard time bringing the ball upcourt and starting the Nova offense. It will be real interesting to see how many steals we get.
Can't wait and beating Nova at their on-campus court will be great to see.
Go Johnnies!
I don’t know if St. John’s is necessarily more talented but we certainly win in the depth department which should carry the team to a win. This is the second real test of the season and as you stated, an important one that may certainly dictate what’s to come. Let’s hope the team rises to the occasion.I truly cannot recall the last time I have said this, but I think that we actually have a more talented and better basketball team this year than Villanova. Their lack of a talented point guard who can withstand the type of pressure that Posh, Mathis, et al. employs SHOULD also be a huge advantage for us. We also have a deeper bench (which of course won't mean much if CMA doesn't go beyond a 6-7 player rotation). My prediction is that we largely control the game, maintain a 6-8 point lead until around the 5-minute mark of the second half, and then withstand a somewhat erratic finish to win by 2-3. Every game this year is big, but this one is even bigger because it's an early conference game that can really impact the vibe of the Big East season.
Also, look for a strong game from Mathis after he seemed to have a hard time getting untracked last time out after missing a few games. I’m sure he’s looked at Wusu’s stat line from that game and he wants to get some of those 30 minutes back from Wusu. Pinzon got the early hook and didn’t get a second look. Hopefully that lights a under his tail as well. Gonna need him.My prediction:
i think we play evenly in the first half. Perhaps take a 5-7 point lead into the half.
We get off to a slow start in the 2nd. Nova starts hitting 3s. We fall behind by 8 or so with about 12 minutes to go.
We regain control.
last 5-7 minutes will be tense.
I'm going to be an optimist and say we win: SJU 77 Nova 73
Curbelo, player of the game.
You left out how many Philly Cheese Steaks will be sold in the arena! My prediction:

Philly Cheese Steaks are good but I'd rather one of the dollar slice pizzas or corner store deli sandwiches I had on my last trip to Manhattan. Delish with a cold brew and not nearly as messy as a Philly Cheese Steak. You left out how many Philly Cheese Steaks will be sold in the arena!
He was dressed and on the bench.Anyone know of Nywie's availability? I see he didn't play against FSU, but the broadcast was so bad I could not tell if he was dressed or even on the bench.
I'd say Vegas will take a bath on this, but there aren't enough of us St. John's fans to take that bet.Nova currently a 4 point favorite.

Hope they do but Vegas understands the value of a home game to a home team with a winning tradition. I’m confident if the game was at St. John’s the Johnnies would be similarly favored.I'd say Vegas will take a bath on this, but there aren't enough of us St. John's fans to take that bet.
Winning tradition under a HoF coach who isn't there anymore, and a bench that isn't as good as it traditionally is. I actually don't even expect to sweat during the game. At least not as much as I expect their players to sweat.Hope they do but Vegas understands the value of a home game to a home team with a winning tradition.
