This is a good matchup for us just like FSU. Curbelo and Posh will eat up their PG on defense. Nova hasn't shot the three well this year. Their interior D is weak also. So our strengths match up with their weaknesses, as I see it.

Keep them off the FT line and don't let them go 10-20 from three and we should win

I think game comes down to how well they shoot the three tonight vs how well we are either able to defend it or create enough turnovers for extra possessions to make up for it.
We have seen this team enough to know they most likely will not shoot well from 3. But that does not mean we cant win. We are going to attack the hoop with reckless abandon, speed up Arch and Armstrong into making turnovers and gut out a victory in Philly.

We will do it tonight. I have 0 doubt!

He outplayed Jesse Edwards who is a formidable presence down low, went toe to toe 6’11/280 Jamille Edwards and fought through double teams all night @ISU. He dropped 23/12/2 on a 7’4 kid just yesterday.

To think that he’s not going to continue to shine in BE play when he’s leading the country in double doubles is just a ridiculous angle. Anderson said it post game, we’re essentially running the offense through him at this juncture. We have a huge advantage against Nova. Dixon is too small and they have no one behind him.
How is that "ridiculous?" I hope you are right, but it is a reasonable position to think Soriano hasn't yet been tested every game like he will in BE. I am not worried about him, but it's not patently obvious that he keeps getting double doubles every night

I have a good feeling about this game, especially without a healthy Justin Moore. If the Johnnies can get into an up and down game with the Cats, I think we win. If the Cats are able to dictate a half court game I think we will struggle.
Even there, as long as we feed Joel in the half court instead of playing hero ball, we should be ok

Philly Cheese Steaks are good but I'd rather one of the dollar slice pizzas or corner store deli sandwiches I had on my last trip to Manhattan. Delish with a cold brew and not nearly as messy as a Philly Cheese Steak.
Best sandwich by a mile is the Roast Pork and Extra Sharp Provolone from Tony Luke's. Up there with Katz's Pastrami for Best Sandwich Ever

I’m not talking about us shooting well from 3, I’m talking about Nova shooting well from 3. I agree with you that if we can speed up Arch and Armstrong and create turnovers for easy baskets we can definitely win.

I'm worried about how we match up with them defensively. Who gets the first crack at guarding Whitmore? Mathis doesn't have the height and Jones isn't physical enough. Every player on their roster can shoot the 3 so Soriano isn't going to be able to just camp out in the lane and we know he's not the best at guarding away from the basket. The hope is that the pressure gets to their guards but they are the 5th best in the entire country in turnover rate.
I feel like we can't stop him, so let him score 20 and make sure every one else is tamped down

Got it. The good news is, Nova does not have the shooters like they have had in years past. I am not worried about that.

It is so good just to know that if this is a tight game down the stretch, we have someone like Curbelo we can get the ball to and count on him making the right play. Major upgrade over years past.

Nova is shooting about 2 pct. points less than last year from three (34 to 36%) but they are still no slouches from three: Daniels at 36%, Dixon 39%, Arcidiacono 42% and the freshman Hausen 52% off the bench. If we don't guard the three reasonably well, I don't see us winning. They also shoot 82% from the line so have to hope for halfway fair whistles and minimize silly fouls on their pump fakes. I agree we have a decent shot to take this one on the road, but no way it will be easy.

Eric Dixon is savvy, Joel has to be disciplined on defense. Jones should start the game by driving. the rest of his game opens up better that way. One way we can and will likely get burned is them breaking the press for an easy uncontested 3 or layup. 2 smart passes and they shoot on their terms. That may be good for about 10-15 points tonight if we aren't as disruptive as we'd like to be. Road wins are tough

I don't believe Soriano can guard Dixon. He couldn't guard the Syracuse big who went around him numerous times as if he wasn't there. Stanley will have play some guarding Dixon.

See a lot of talk that our guards should be able to harass and turnover Arcidiacono rather easily. Why? Because he was once a walk on? He’s averaging .5 turnovers a game, as mostly the primary ball handler in 30 minutes a night. If there’s one thing he does exceptionally well, it’s take care of the basketball.

It’s not him going around Joel that worries me. Dixon is slow floored and doesn’t have much of a dribble game. Him pulling Soriano out on pick and pops however, scares the shit out of me.

I expect Nova to be bringing Slater & Whitmore to help against our pressure defense and have Arch & Daniels try to pass over it rather than try to dribble through it. Will be a very interesting game to watch; hoping for the best.

Dixon may be slow footed, but he is savvy. He will find a way to get around Soriano, and get him into foul trouble.
Agreed incredibly savvy. I think he’s score on anyone in the post. Maybe I misinterpreted what you were saying.

Novas backcourt last year was both skilled and clutch. Losing those players should result in a SJU win.

He takes the ball to the middle like his brother but never shoots always waits for the collapse and passes out for the open 3.
