Manifesting a big dingle game
Friends Job GIF

I don’t want to tempt fate here, but I am surprised with how poorly Ware and Bamba have played.

Bamba is only averaging 8.5 points and 3.9 boards when he seemed like a lock for 12-15 pts. Ware is averaging 1.2 points 2.1 boards in just 11.7 minutes.

Perfect outcome for this nova game. They escape but look extremely beatable the whole time.

Excited for Saturday
Timing isn't good for me to make trip, but tiny chance i might.

Your story reminds me of a game in philly i went to years ago with some co-workers when i worked in jersey. Everyone knew i went to st johns, 2 guys were neutral and one went to nova for grad school. It was a pretty great back and forth game. When Mullin stepped to the foul line with a few seconds left to seal the game if he hit both ends of a 1+1, the Nova co-worker declared, "I don't care, i only went there for grad school."

Mullin missed the front end, Nova raced down court and just before the buzzer sounded John Pinone released a 30 foot 2 point shot that ripped the nets well after the buzzer. The co-worker who was pretty quiet all game erupted in pandemonium screaming "We won. We won We won" jumping up and down like a 12 year old.

I hope we win saturday so you can at least have 10 seconds to scream like that when it's over. It would be a long time coming for me.

Very important game to win against a good upper middle of the pack Nova team (maybe a big east 3-7th place team, best to worst). If we are in position to sweep one or two of those middle teams, our pist season outlooks improves albeit very early.

Dixon matchup concerns me. I don't like Soriano having to play so far from the basket. Curious to see how CRP responds to this in a man. Could some else guard Dixon? Zone?

Regarding Glenn Taylor I'm likely wrong but doesn't he have a poor +/- rating? Maybe Rick sending a message to play defense or sit? Seemed to light a fire under Dingle when CRP did same. Poor speculation on my part.

You have to liove that we can approach an away game vs. a decent team with a good chance of stealing one. Hasn't felt that way in a while.

When was last time we got out if gates at 3-1?

The way we have looked in our 3 BE games so far... winning on the road is tough, but I think we take this one fairly easily.

A win here, and MSG should be Electric for Providence (even though they won't be ranked now with their loss vs Hall + the Hopkins injury- rough)

Beast I don't know about his +/- rating but Taylor is one of our best defenders and has been from Day one. If the lack of playing time last game was to send a basketball message of any kind I'd expect it to be in response to a couple of ill advised offensive plays he made in prior game where as Bill The Truth pointed out the coaches were very unhappy.

Nova on road, PC at home & Creighton away next three tough games. I won’t get greedy, two out of these three would position Johnnies well. Beat Nova!
I’ve got a call into RP . Told him to put Ledlum on Dixon . Let Soriano stay underneath .

Dixon slimmer and lost weight . He likes to draw Joel outside and then drive past him . Ledlum has the size and strength to handle him in my opinion .

I remember that game as clear as day. As Mullin went to the line for the front end of his 1 and 1, NBC flashed a graphic that he had 999 career points and the announcers said he would hit 1000. No one expected him to miss. A 3 point lead would be all she wrote as there was no 3 point shot yet. I still can’t believe Pinone hit that elbow jumper. Cost us an outright Big East regular season championship. We ended up in a three-way tie, sharing the title with Nova and BC.

Regarding the last time we started the BE 3-1, we have to go back to Lavin’s first year with Hardy, DJ and company. Before that 2000-01 season, Omar Cook’s team actually started out the gate 5-1 in conference before losing 7 of 10 to finish .500 in league play.

The problem is Joel has to cover someone unless we decide to go zone all the way and any of the other 4 starters would be very tough matchups for him as well.
Will be interesting to see if we play mostly zone. If my memory is correct, that is how Penn & Drexel beat Nova.

There’s going to have to be some switches going on when Dixon goes up top because Joel can’t handle him out there but that also might create a mismatch somewhere else with Joel on a smaller quicker guy anyway. That 2-3 matchup zone might be the best play especially since this Nova team isn’t shooting the three with the same consistency as previous years.

Good points . Using the Zone , would allow Ledlum to man the side wherever Dixon roams .

Or , I don’t know if RP ever uses the Box and 1 or , whether he thinks Dixon is that much a threat to use it .
The best defense will keep Soriano out of foul trouble . Can’t have him being a cheerleader on the Bench for long periods .

Nova has their own 3 point sharpshooter , who’s name escapes me . It would be great if Dunlap can put up similar numbers vs Nova . Rest assured though , Nova won’t be surprised when he enters the game , like Butler was .

NCJ , continue being diligent in the South corner of your Basement . It’s a crucial strategy .
