Villanova (MSG), Sat., Jan. 11 , 7p, CBSSN

49% for a wide body from deep is very impressive. Wow, maybe he does have an NBA game.
No way…he’s not shot faking his way past NBA defenders. In fact, RP should instruct anyone guarding him on perimeter that the goal is to distract not block.

Am I the only one who feels very calm about this game, in that I expect a relatively easy win? I just don't think Nova is that good, and we're at home.

I am quite concerned about this game. Unless we start hitting threes at a decent rate (above 25%), we need to feed off live ball turnovers and offensive rebounds. Villanova tends to limit both of these. As others have said, pace will be very important. We want to go up and down. Villaova wants a half court game. A big factor for them last night was that there were only 59 possessions in their win against UConn. By comparison, we had 76 against Xavier. Baylor (in regulation), Georgia and Creighton were all games played below 70 possessions.

Thanks for asking. We're all safe and sound. 4 miles from the closest evacuation zone in North Santa Monica. Only had one friend. I mean only had one friend in Palisades. She lost her house. Today the winds have died down a lot. Helping our firefighters but I can smell smoke everywhere, which I couldn't when the winds were ripping. Hoping they make a lot of progress at least on barriers before the winds pick up again later this afternoon. It's some scary shit. I can not imagine what it will look like when I go to see the devastation in Palisades and up the PCH once all the smoke clears, if you will pardon the pun.

This is a very important and not easy game. Villanova and Creighton look like the teams with the best chance at the NCAA outside of Marquette, UCONN and SJU. It wouldn't be great to be 0-2 against those teams with Georgetown lurking.

Not going to post a full paywall article but

“There’s an energy and a blue-collar pride to this team that I think people are starting to pick up on,” says Ed Kull. “I think the most-loved basketball teams in this city — the Knicks, St. John’s, whoever — always seem to play that way. You know you’re getting an honest effort every night out. I sense that with our guys.”

Quotes like that show that Kull gets it. His glowing of the Garden also makes you imagine he understands the value of playing more games there in the future. If Pitino can keep this up next year, hopefully we're looking at more Fri/Sat/Sun as well.

Astute analysis, let's make this a track meet.

Yea, the knicks playoff run these last couple of years, especially last year, were based off the high effort, defense and rebounding style that we also play with. Too bad more knicks fans dont support the little brother in MSG

"you know Barry, I started out at Fordham because I couldn't get into St. John's, my first choice. Now the current team at St. John's play like junkyard dogs, they're that good. They should mop the court against these VanillaNovas pantywaists, Veuve Clicquot drinking, Hamptons-going, Brooks Brothers wearing phony wannabes; when I transferred from Fordham to Penn, those Main Liners up the road made my skin crawl"

Big East fans owe gratitude to Nova for winning the two National Championships when the league was on the ropes. Next to SJU they are my favorite Big East team.
Completely agree. For me it’s Nova and Marquette. I have a good
friend from my working days whose whole family went to Nova and they all root for the Johnnies when they’re not playing Nova.

Rivalry aside Nova is a class program, a credit to the Big East, and their fans are totally fine. Unlike UConn and Providence whose fans are trash.

Every league needs heels and rootable guys. Calhoun, Boeheim, Hurley were/are perfect heels to root against every year. Wright was/is a class act and someone you can't help but root for every year.
