Villanova (MSG), Fri., Jan. 20, 7p, FS-1

I wasn't in position to watch any of the second half last night, and as ugly as the first half was, I'm glad second half is one I missed. I followed the last 8 minutes pretty closely on my phone in the restaurant and it was really depressing to see us go from up 6 to down 5 as we got to crunch time. Thankfully, the food was good enough that the game result didn't ruin it.

Just glad I wasn't able to make the trip to MSG as I initially intended lol.

Daniel's played well...16 pts. 50% fg, 4-7 from deep. He was 35% of all Nova's points.

Remember when Posh shut down Colin Gillespie...yeah, those were the days.
Yeah Posh can't even play defense anymore, you don't just forget how to play defense, so that tells me he does,'t care anymore.
Yeah, I'll get ripped for saying that, go ahead.

CMA's system is flawed because we don't play solid fundamental defense and we have no semblance of a half court offense when we can't score off a fast break. Yeah, what we do looks flashy and good from time to time and, on any given day, we can pull off an upset or two but it's a system that is doomed to fail over the long haul of a season.

The constant switching on defense often results in a mismatch in our opponent's favor and leads to an easy basket. We also generally commit more fouls than our opponents because of our gambling style of defensive play which gives them many more free throw opportunities than we get during the course of a game.

On offense, we don't value the basketball enough and commit way too many unforced turnovers. We also take way too many "circus" shots that have little or no chance of going in. We also miss an awful lot of point blank shots in the paint. Our free throw shooting is nothing to write home about either.

This team has talent that, if harnessed properly, should yield better results than we are seeing. The all access game was eye opening IMO. I couldn't understand what CMA was trying to convey to his players during the timeouts most of the time. After almost four years in the job and NO post season participation of any type, it's, unfortunately, time to strongly consider moving in another direction. CMA may be a nice guy but he's in a results oriented business and he's just not getting the desired results.

We could have used Montez Mathis last night. His defensive ability on Daniels and his ability to shoot the three. Might have been a different outcome.

Root for the Giants!
Lol, might as well root for Duke, the Yankees, Manchester City and the Lightning while I’m at it.

I’m a lot of things. Stubborn, sometimes obnoxious and tall. But, I’m loyal. As you can tell from my choice of sports teams, to a fault.

I said we need a shooter(s) this year, and that we were going to miss the way teams keyed on Champagnie and how it opeiened the court for others. People said we'd make up for the loss of Champagnie by distributing his points amongst multiple players. It don't work that way. If you can't see that, I don't know what to tell you genius

While I take your point, at this point last year the team was actually the same in conference record. No matter the personnel the lack of coaching, execution and discipline is the constant and the results are frustratingly consistent.

Agree and last season Wheeler, Julian, Posh trumped top three guys of any combination currently

I think is that what many are finally realizing is that last years team, as underperforming as they were, was better then this years underperforming squad.

Anyone notice the promotional water bottles, scheduled to be given to the "first 2,500 fans", were given on the way out?

Small thing, but.....We are.....
So you got rewarded for leaving early? SMDH (ps not talking specifically about you)

He's not nit picking think I heard announcer say he was shooting at 69% and if that's our best FT shooter that is a problem-that's the point.

Well,h e's not. Storr and Posh shoot about 75% and a bunch of guys shoot about 70%. By comparison Whitmore is Nova's worst FT shooter of guys who play. He shoots 73%. The teams ineptitude from the line is another sign of either poor coaching or poor training discipline. That said the team shot 83% from the line last night so that had nothing to do with the loss. Not going to the line much in the 2nd half did though.

I agree. Let's give him another extension.
LOL!
We fell for the Big East Coach of the Year bullshit from CMA's agent. Ironically, we fell for the same BS 30 years ago with Brian Mahoney who couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.
I have no clue what these guys practice but it doesn't translate well in game situations.
I believe Posh Alexander reached his peak as a college basketball player. Every opposing coach knows his limitations and he is easy to guard because he plays small.
Andre Curbelo is the more talented of the two but he is not coachable.
Kudos to CMA for giving more burn to Storr and Pinzon.

had a night to sleep on this... and my emotions haven't change. Coming off 2 solid performances and a man-handling of Uconn on the road- with the hype being built all week (great job by the school- they put butts in the seats- they did their job)- Coach HAD to win this game. You HAD to win in front of that crowd.

We aren't talking about a 83-80 loss with Nova hitting a 3 at the buzzer... we didnt reach 50 points! we had the worst showing I have ever seen Live.... you can't do that.

I have tickets to the Seton Hall game and hope these kids finish the year playing hard... but it's going to be real tough to garner much if any interest outside those most dedicated fans.... And if we keep CMA...i don't have confidence even those die-hards will be interested to start the year.

Winning cures all, and CMA hasn't won went it mattered
Great job by the much maligned fans, for putting their butts in the seats. Not sure you could get the fans from any of the other bottom of the league teams to turn out almost 14k for a game like this.

I’m fairly certain there is a caveat with 3 second in paint call that nullifies it if they shoot. Got into an argument with a ref recently but didn’t really have the time to get a thought out answer from him. In other words if Dixon were to of passed it after being camped in paint then the call should have been made. Sounds like a weird rule I know.
interesting. . .IMO 3 is 3. . .4 seems reasonable to overlook. . .6 is egregious and creates an unreasonable expectation of the defender

A friend of a young guy I know is an NCAA ref (did one of our home games this year.). I’ll tell my friend to ask him.

Too much over-analyzing. This their first game in the Garden and they CHOKED. Nothing to do with coaching. You could see from the outset what was happening.

Dixon was 1-10 so I don’t know if our D can be without any credit for that. But you’re point is well understood and I agree 100% about lack of smart/winning plays.
Soriano shut him down…bodied up w/o fouling inside. Only critique is he tried to blocks few 3 point shots (fouled him in act once). . .Dixon, Slater and Armstrong should be invited to shoot from deep. Otherwise, good job by Joel. He really has developed and continues to do so. Happy for him.
